It is truly a magical time to enjoy with family and friends. The lodge had quite the busy December. On De- cember 5 th we hosted the Rocky Hill Vets for their an- nual Christmas Party. They had a great time eating, fel- lowshipping and playing games of Bingo. On Decem- ber 15 th we hosted the chil- dren and families of Camp Sunrise for their annual Christmas Party. The chil- dren had a great time talking with Santa who made a spe- cial trip from the North Pole just for them. On December 21 st we held our members Christmas Party at the lodge. It is always nice getting to see members from near and far that we don’t typically see on a regular basis. A big thanks goes out to all the members who helped in the various events of the month. The success of these events would not be possible without the efforts of so many coming together for the common good. In the month of January, I would like to remind mem- bers of the things scheduled at the lodge. Trap Shoot is still going strong on Sunday mornings. This shooting dis- cipline is a lot of fun for be- ginners and experts alike. If you have never shot trap just head on up to the range, Bill will help you with anything you need. The Breakfast Committee will be holding Breakfast on the 12 th and 26 th . Bring your family and friends, for 10 dollars this is a meal you can’t beat. On Thursday’s Mike Duds is doing his Set Back League again. Last year members really enjoyed this friendly competition. Lastly, Sunday NFL football is still going strong. • From the Secretary’s Desk

As this new year progresses, we begin to actually wind down the end of the current Lodge Year. On January 19th, we’ll be putting the dues notices out for next Lodge Year. As I mentioned last month, there is an increase in the insurance each member must pay by

$2.00. This will be reflected in the notice as such. Keep in mind, dues are not due until April 1, 2020; however, you are considered past due (late) as of April 1st as well. So feel free to send in your payment as soon as possible. Additionally, with the dues notices, I will not automatically send out any “spouse” cards unless specifically requested. In the month of February, the Exalted Ruler has called for a special meeting on the 5th. The Lodge meetings of the 12th and 26th are for the nomination and election of officers, respectfully. If you’re interested in becoming an officer, please let anyone of us know. With this being stated, although I enjoy this position, and it is very rewarding, I’m leaning on not accepting the position next Lodge year so I may be able to concentrate on my personal life. I will be happy to assist anyone who wishes to accept this position. It isn’t difficult, and you will enjoy it, I promise! Dennis G. Claffey, PDD Lodge Secretary

    Bullet Notes

Lodge Members: As the Winter Season takes over, the shooting sports activities get more fun. Please join us for Trap Shoot scheduled every Sunday at 11 AM. This event is open to family, friends and all Elks Members. I would encourage anyone, at any skill level to come observe and participate in this

activity. Our participants are welcoming and safe. Bill Wolfe, PER. facilitates this event and adds over 20 years of experience. On February 22, 2020, the Range Committee will host a ‘Basic Safety Pistol Course.’ This course is open to Elk Family, Friends, and all Elks members. The Basic Safety Pistol Course is required for anyone applying for a Connecticut State Pistol Permit. The class starts at 9 AM and will end at 5 PM. The cost is only $100 with all profits donated to the Lodge. This class is fun and engaging for everyone. Participate to start your journey towards responsible gun ownership. Additionally, on February 22, 2020, the Range Committee will host the 2nd Annual ‘Chicken Cordon Bleu Dinner.’ This is the Dinner that changed it all. There will be raffles and prizes. We start with a 5 PM Cocktail Hour with Dinner scheduled to for 6 PM. Do not miss this event. Tickets are available at the Bar. If you would like to coordinate your tickets online, please email [email protected]. The Range Committee is also working on an Orientation Video for all new members. The video will include demonstrations of the Basic Rules of Safety and discuss the procedures and policies described in our Range Rules. The code to the Range lock has been changed. To get the new code you must present your 2019-2020 membership card to attendant at the lodge during regular business hours. The lock code is changed semi-annually to help ensure access is limited to members and their guests. Our December Newsletter provides a lot of details about legislation impacting us as responsible gun owners. Laws have changed if you are not aware of these changes, you can easily find yourself on the wrong side of the law. Please feel free to send any questions you may have about the changes that have been made. Continued on page 4
