OVERVIEW
The airfield is situated 6nm to the W of the city bordering a built-up area to the E.
TERRAIN
The surrounding terrain is hilly with terrain rising to the N of the airfield reaching 1320 ft asl at 6nm N, and1870 ft amsl at 11nm NE. Rises to 1,720 ft amsl at 11nm W and 1,234 ft amsl at 12nm SE. Mast to 880ftasl 4nm S.M8 motorway 500m from threshold of 05.
AIR TRAFFIC CONTROL
All SIDs include noise preferential routes.A special procedure is in force for flights being radar vectored to RWY 23 in order to minimise the risk ofnuisance GPWS warnings. Pilots exceeding the speed limit can expect to receive GPWS terrain alertsduring the turn onto final approach.Expect radar vectors to final approach. Significant high ground exists in the final approach path andmonitoring of MSA / Minimum Radar Vectoring altitude is essential. Due terrain, a late clearance todescend on the G/S can be expected.Note: High circling minima.
SPECIAL CONSIDERATIONS
Note that the VOR DME approaches to RWY 05 and RWY23 require a descent gradient of 3.5 degrees.Note acceleration altitude on RWY 05.Glasgow is a noise sensitive airport. Pay particular attention to the Noise Abatement Procedures detailedin the charts.If performing a visual approach – Aircraft must route via minimum 5DME final and maintain 1500' aal untilestablished on final.Consider low A/B setting for landing on RWY 05, as exit point is towards far end of runway.
CAUTION:
Taxiway C limited to max. weight of 30 tonnes. Flights inbound from RAK: Nightstopping / local Crews who are inbound from RAK must clearimmigration via Intl arrivals in GLA. SHould crew transportation be required to reach the Intl pier, pleaseinform the dispatcher on arrival. Under no circumstances should crews enter the terminal via thedomestic points.
GROUND FACILITIES
Large swans present in the vicinity of the airport from September to April. Flocks of 100 birds may fly at

heights up to 500ft although usually confined to dawn and dusk.Hang gliding takes place by arrangement with ATC up to 2,500ft amsl (and occasionally 3,000ft amsl)from various sites within the Glasgow Control Zone.Pre-departure clearance can be obtained via 'Data Clearance Link' (DCL) and is available from EOBT -25until EOBT +15 minutes.
WINTER OPERATIONS
General
De-icing and post de-/anti-icing check performed by Airline Services. For all requests contact SmartHandling on 130.600 MHz. All aeroplanes departing from Glasgow are planned for on-stand de-icing.
De-/anti-icing Fluid
The following de/anti-icing fluids are used in GLA by Airline Services:TYPE I: KILFROST DF PLUS (orange colour, available in 60/40% mixture strength).TYPE IV: KILFROST ABC-S PLUS TYPE IV (green colour, available in 75/25% (LOUT: -14°C) and100% mixture strength (LOUT: -28°C).
De-icing Equipment
4 de-icing trucks for on-stand de-icing.
Responsibility for De-icing
Airline Services are responsible for de-/anti-icing of aeroplanes. The mixture ratio and de-icing procedure(1-step/2-step) is selected by Airline Services based on actual weather conditions and Holdover tables.The Commander usually has no influence on the selection of mixture ratio and de-icing procedure. Shouldthe Commander, however, insist on a mixture ratio or procedure other than that selected by the de-icingspecialist, he has to inform de-icer before starting de-icing process (e.g. considerably lower wing skintemperature than OAT).
De-icing Priority
Stand de-icing: Will take place based upon traffic/weather conditions and will be determined by AirlineServices/Smart handling/ATC. De-icing priority is set according to the “STD” or “ETD” of a flight.Communications ProcessInform the TCO of the requirement for de-/anti-icing. The frequency for Smart handling, 130.60 may beused if no TCO is present on the flight deck.
Abnormal Procedures During De-/Anti-icing Procedures
In event of an emergency advise the de-ice coordinator and follow the procedures laid out in
the Winter Information Handbook 3.12.
Weather
Due to the proximity of regular Atlantic low pressure systems arriving from the West and the ruggednature of local terrain over 50% days are overcast, climate is subject to the effect of the surrounding seas,extreme seasonal variations are rare, temperate winters and cool summers are the outstanding climaticfeatures. The most common wind direction is from the south west, but with the wind direction can changemarkedly from day to day again with the passage of frontal weather systems, winds can be strong andgusty with the effect of local hill and mountains exacerbating these effects.CAUTION: During strong south, south-westerly winds turbulence and windshear can be expected on finalapproach to RWY23 due to terrain uplift.Snow or Sleet falling on the ground surprisingly averages less than 20 days in the West Coast region,

usually there are only two significant days of snow fall during a winter; mostly this occurs at night and isquickly cleared from the runway at Glasgow. Radiation Fog may form overnight in low lying areas, thisusually clears by mid morning and will only rarely effect our planned arrival times.

RWY Restrictions
180° turns on RWY prohibited for code letter E ACFT.

- If full RWY length required advice ATC before HLDG point. Enter RWY at HLDG point B1 and taxi to
extension.
- If wishing to turn right from Link A1 to use full RWY length, advise ATC before reaching HLDG point.
TWY Restriction
TWY C1 not authorized for ACFT MTOM above 30t / 66138lbs.
Taxi/Parking
Safedock AVBL at stands 3-5, 9-11, 14-29, 30, 30L/R, 32-39.
AGNIS with GND stop arrow AVBL at stands 1, 1A, 2, 12, 31, 64, 65, 81, 82.
Stand 6, 6A, 7, 8, 61-63 has no entry guidance and will be marshalled.
Stand 36: B767 and greater will require to be pushed back from APN N and turned into TWY G, facing
according RWY in use.
In case of diversion, be aware that stand availability is extremely limited.
Warnings
GOW VOR/DME:
Reduced low LVL coverage in sector R320-020 and R185-205.
The UK wake turbulence separation during APCH/DEP differs from ICAO, see CRAR United Kingdom.
High terrain around AD.
Particular attention is drawn to a roadway system that exists at the tail of all stands. Flight crews are
reminded of the extreme importance of maintaining a careful lookout at all times and are at all times
responsible for wing tip CLR. TWY lighting and guidance markings are an aid to pilots when they are
operating on the maneuvering area. Notwithstanding the TWY guidance markings, pilots continue to
remain responsible for wing tip CLR.

MAX IAS 180KT for entire APCH except otherwise stated on IAC.
Communication
COM Failure:
See CRAR United Kingdom and in addition;
Failure before ETA or EAT when this has been received and acknowledged:
Fly to appropriate HLDG
point; hold last assigned LVL until last acknowledged ETA plus 10min or EAT when this has been given;
start descent in accordance with procedure detailed on IAC, effect LDG within 30min or later if able to
land visually.
Failure after reaching HLDG point:
Maintain last assigned HLDG LVL until: ATA over HLDG point plus
10min or 10min after last acknowledged COM with ATC; EAT when received and acknowledged;
commence descent in accordance with PROC detailed on IAC chart, effect LDG within 30min or later if
able to land visually.
COM failure under radar vectoring
Intitial APCH: Continue visually or by means of an appropriate final APCH aid. If not possible proceed at
3500ft or last assigned LVL if higer to GOW VOR.
Intermediate and final APCH: Continue visually or by means of an appropriate final APCH aid. If not
possible follow MISAP to GOW VOR.
Arrival Procedure
Noise Abatement Procedures
RWY 05/23: Do not descend below 2000ft before intercepting GP.
RWY 05: PROP ACFT may descent to 1600ft when instructed by Radar.
Visual APCH:
Route via 5NM from RWY THR and maintain 1500ft until established on final APCH.
GPWS
Special PROC for radar vectoring to RWY 23:
In order to minimize risk of GPWS warning generated by terrain profile in vicinity of final APCH track,
a special PROC is in force for flights being radar vectored to RWY 23.
Pilots exceeding speed limits as detailed under SPEED RESTRICTIONS can expect GPWS terrain alert
during turn. If unable to comply with speed restrictions advise ATC and state MNM speed acceptable.
Within Radar Vectoring Area (RVA) and North of line 105°/285° MAG through N55 58.9 W004 13.6
(a point 9NM from RWY 23 THR on extended CL) MNM ALT allocated by ATC will be 3500ft.
ATC will not issue clearance to descend below 3500ft while North of line above described, unless:
- beeing established on ILS Localizer for RWY 23 or
- beeing established inbound on final APCH track of a SRE APCH or radar vectored for VOR/DME APCH.
Reverse:
Do not use more than idle reverse if possible.
Warnings
RWY 05:
- DME GOW reads 0.4NM at THR.
- GP flags may occur when below GP and right of RWY centerline .
PROCs lie in vicinity of high terrain. Do not descend below PROC MNM ALT.
