1. RBIpermitsNBFCstoworkasBusinessCorrespondentsofbanks:Withaviewtoachievefinancialinclusion,theReserveBankofIndiahasallowedNon‐BankingFinanceCompaniestooperateasBusinessCorrespondents(BCs)ofbanks,permittingthemtoofferlimitedservices.Bankswillbeallowedtoworkwithnon‐deposittakingNBFCsasBCs.Note:TheRBItookintoaccountrecommendationsofNachiketMorCommitteewhilereviewingtheexistingguidelinesontheappointmentofBCs.

4. RBIsimplifiesKYCnormsforopeningbankaccount:Customersneedtosubmitonlyonedocumentaryproofofaddress—eithercurrentorpermanent—whileopeningabankaccountorwhileundergoingperiodicupdation,theReserveBankofIndia.“Incasetheaddressmentionedasper‘proofofaddress’undergoesachange,freshproofofaddressmaybesubmittedtothebranchwithinsixmonths,”theRBIsaidinanotificationtobanks.Noproofisrequiredtobesubmittedforsuchaddressforcorrespondence/localaddress,”theRBIadded.However,thisaddressmaybeverifiedbythebankthrough‘positiveconfirmation’suchasacknowledgmentofreceiptofletter,chequebooks,ATMcards;telephonicconversation;andvisits.

5. AustraliaandNewZealandBankingGroup(ANZ)hasreceivedin‐principleapprovalfromtheReserveBanktoopentwonewbranches.ThenewbrancheswillcomeupGurgaon,NCR,andouterBangalore.
6. RBIdirectiveonforeigncurrencyaccounts:TheReserveBankofIndiahasdirectedbanksto:convertcreditbalancesinanyinoperativeforeigncurrency(FC)denominateddepositintoIndianrupeeiftheformerremainsnotinuseforthreeyearsfromthedateofmaturityofdeposit.
7. RBIeasesgoldimportnorms;nodforselecttradinghousestoprocurefromabroad:Underthisscheme,animporterhastoensurethatatleast20percentofeverylotofimportedgoldisexclusivelymadeavailableforexportpurpose.
8. RBInodforbankloantenureupto10yearstoboostexportindustry.Inamajorboostfortheexportindustry,theRBIhasallowedbankstoprovideloanswithtenuresofupto10years.Theseloanswillhelpexportersinensuringcapitalflowstofulfilllong‐termcontracts.Existingnormsallowbankstogiveloansforuptooneyearonly.
9. TheReserveBankofIndiasaidbanksshouldmakeallnewATMsinstalledfromJuly1,2014as“talkingATMs”withBraillekeypads.
10. RaghuramRajan,theGovernoroftheReserveBankofIndia(RBI)announcedthatplasticcurrencynoteswillbelaunchedin2015afterfieldtrials.
11. RBIpanelheadedbyex‐ChairmanofAxisBank,P.J.Nayakrecommendfordilutinggovtstakeinpublicsectorbankstobelow50%.Thegovernmentshouldcutitsholdinginpublicsectorbankstounder50percent,aReserveBankofIndia(RBI)panelreportonTuesdaysaid,criticisingthewayinwhichthelendersarenowbeinggoverned.

5.AboutBankingOmbudsmanScheme2006: TheBankingOmbudsmanSchemeenablesanexpeditiousand
inexpensiveforumtobankcustomersforresolutionofcomplaintsrelatingtocertainservicesrenderedbybanks.
TheBankingOmbudsmanisaseniorofficialappointedbytheReserveBankofIndiatoredresscustomercomplaintsagainstdeficiencyincertainbankingservices.
AllScheduledCommercialBanks,RegionalRuralBanksandScheduledPrimaryCo‐operativeBanksarecoveredundertheScheme.
OtherImportantPoints: Thecomplainantcanbefiledbyone’sauthorizedrepresentative
(otherthananadvocate). TheBankingOmbudsmandoesnotchargeanyfeeforfiling
andresolvingcustomers’complaints. Theamount,ifany,tobepaidbythebanktothecomplainantby
wayofcompensationforanylosssufferedbythecomplainantislimitedtotheamountarisingdirectlyoutoftheactoromissionofthebankorRs10lakhs,whicheverislower.
TheBankingOmbudsmanmayawardcompensationnotexceedingRs1lakhtothecomplainantonlyinthecaseofcomplaintsrelatingtocreditcardoperationsformentalagonyandharassment.
Ifacomplaintisnotsettledbyanagreementwithinaperiodofonemonth,theBankingOmbudsmanproceedsfurthertopassanaward.Beforepassinganaward,theBankingOmbudsmanprovidesreasonableopportunitytothecomplainantandthebank,topresenttheircase.
IfoneisnotsatisfiedwiththedecisionpassedbytheBankingOmbudsman,onecanapproachtheappellateauthorityagainsttheBankingOmbudsmen’sdecision.AppellateAuthorityisvestedwithaDeputyGovernoroftheRBI.
Ifoneisaggrievedbythedecision,onemay,within30daysofthedateofreceiptoftheaward,appealagainsttheawardbeforetheappellateauthority.
Theappellateauthoritymay,ifhe/sheissatisfiedthattheapplicanthadsufficientcausefornotmakinganapplicationforappealwithintime,alsoallowafurtherperiodnotexceeding30days.
6.About(BASICSAVINGBANKDEPOSITACCOUNT):UndertheguidelinesissuedonAugust10,2012byRBI:Anyindividual,includingpoororthosefromweakersectionofthesociety,canopenzerobalanceaccountinanybank.BSBDAguidelinesareapplicableto"allscheduledcommercialbanksinIndia,includingforeignbankshavingbranchesinIndia".Alltheaccountsopenedearlieras'no‐frills'accountshouldberenamedasBSBDA.Banksarerequiredtoconverttheexisting'no‐frills'accounts’into'BasicSavingsBankDepositAccounts'.The'BasicSavingsBankDepositAccount'shouldbeconsideredasanormalbankingserviceavailabletoallcustomers,throughbranches.Theaimofintroducing'BasicSavingsBankDepositAccount'isverymuchpartoftheeffortsofRBIforfurtheringFinancialInclusionobjectives.
