Gifts of Financial Support

The CEC is a community of families, friends, and educators who give in meaningful ways to support the children of the CEC, and ensure that the environment of care fosters learning and growth. Your participation in this community is vital and allows the CEC to develop and deliver exceptional levels of early childhood care and education.

As a nonprofit, we invite you to give to the Annual Fund, sponsor our Annual Benefit and Auction, and make the CEC a priority in your family’s charitable giving plan each year. In giving, know that every dollar supports you and your child in marvelous ways.

Donors at the Leading Hands level are celebrated on the CEC Donor Wall in the breezeway between the office and the Bunny/Koala rooms. All donors’ gifts are listed in the CEC’s annual report, printed and distributed each year.

2016 - 2017 Ways to GiveAt a Glance

Our goal is $200,000 combined for this program year with 100% family, board, and staff participation.

Is my gift to the Annual Fund tax-deductible?Yes, the CEC is a nonprofit 501(c)(3) organization. Our tax ID number is 95-3403258.

I want to support both the Annual Fund and the Annual Benefit & Auction. How can I do both? Many CEC parents donate to both the Annual Fund and serve as sponsors of the Annual Benefit & Auction. Benefit sponsors at various levels receive promotional advertising, event tickets, and more. Please see the "Make your Annual Gift to the CEC' form for more information about how to designate all your giving to the CEC at the beginning of the year.

Does my United Way contribution to the CEC count as my Annual Fund gift?Yes, when you designate the CEC. Some employers, including Caltech, match United Way and Annual Fund/Benefit contributions.

How much should we give?Giving is extremely personal. The amount of giving varies from family to family, though contributions range from under $100 to $2,500 or more. Last year, the average Annual Fund gift was greater than $350.

Gifts of Time

Parent Participation HoursParent participation enriches the CEC community, keeps costs down, and brings skills to the CEC that would otherwise be too expensive. Completing parent participation hours also helps you meet and connect with other families.

Parents have the entire program year (or before your child's last day) to complete hours. Uncompleted hours will be billed at $25 per hour. Hours may also be “bought out” at this rate though your participation is preferred.

Specific needs are announced in the This Week, distributed electronically each Tuesday. Opportunities include periodic parent Work Days, event volunteer positions, committee positions, and more.

The number of hours is required per family and not per child. Parents record their own hours in the Parent Hours binder in the Oak Grove or Co-op office.

Please note: Hours will be prorated for mid-year enrollment and withdrawal. I have found that among its

other benefits, giving liberates the soul of the giver. Maya Angelou

How Many Hours? What Counts?• Full-time enrollment: 24 hours

• Part-time enrollment: 16 hours

• Cooperative Preschool at Caltech (Co-op): 7 hours

Hours are divided into three categories:

Work Day: 8 hours (full- and part-time), 3 (Co-op)Providing facility maintenance on scheduled Work Days (see Master Calendar), and fixing toys or equipment at home.

Fund Development: 4 hours (full- and part-time), 0 (Co-op)Volunteering for the Annual Auction & Benefit, Pancake Breakfast, Celebration of Community, or assisting with mailings.
