WOMEN’S SOCCER - STATE CHAMPIONSAfter playing the majority of the regular season with just twelve players, sophomore Ellen Tyler and the ULS/LCL women’s soccer co-op won the WIAA Division 3 State Championship 3-1 over Prairie School in Racine . (photo 4)

REUNION CELEBRATIONS The “Reunion Celebration” on Hawk Hill this summer was a lovely, “rainy” evening full of great stories and memories . The best part of the evening was having the opportunity to celebrate our very first ULS graduates and help them celebrate their 50-year high school reunion . Each graduate was given a personalized “canoe paddle” and a new tradition began . Congratulations Bob Zwicky ’63, Jeff Orum ’63, Joan Manegold Dukes ’62, Bill Biersach ’63, and Tom Kranick ’63 . (Featured left to right, photo 5)

THE TITANTIC EXHIBITThe First Grade class was extremely excited to show off all of their hard work during the opening of their Titanic Exhibit last May . The exhibit was the culmination of several months of research, note taking and drawings, all generated by the students’ interest in the anniversary of the sinking of the Titanic . The work that the children produced was authentic and demonstrated the depth of learning that had accrued – from calculating the percentage of the iceberg that was above and below the water, to the ratio of passengers to life boats, to the different food that was served in each class . (photo 6)

CAMPUS GREENA 55-year-old dream to build a Campus Green came to fruition this past year thanks to the Michels family . This project turned a massive parking lot into a play and learning space and rerouted driveways to make our school a safer place . This amazing campus improvement highlights the splendor of our 180-acre campus . (photo 1)

STACKNER MIDDLE SCHOOL The re-opening of the Middle School has been the key to serving our vibrant and large classes in grades 5th through 8th and has bred new energy and life into our ULS community . The Middle School will reconstitute the social bond of 5th through 8th and help them grow into responsible leaders as individuals and as a group . (photo 2)

GATORADE NATIONAL RUNNER OF THE YEARSenior Molly Seidel capped off her amazing high school running career with four cross country and eight track and field State Championships . In addition, Molly was honored as the Gatorade National Runner of the Year, won the Foot Locker National Championships in San Diego, and raced for the U .S . junior team at the Bupa Great Edinburgh in Scotland . INTERSESSION SUCCESSThis past year marked the first year of official ULS Intersession Courses where Upper School students engaged in unique courses for credit that extend discovery beyond our campus and provide hands-on activities for learning, leadership and service . Students are required to attend at least one trip per year as a graduation requirement . The trip to Costa Rica last year was a favorite among students, as they participated in ecological restoration and a zip line or two . (photo 7)

HOW TO SUCCEED IN BUSINESS Another successful Musical at ULS! The Theatre program at ULS involves almost the entire Upper School student body . Whether the star basketball player is playing a lead role, the artist is creating sets, or the computer genius is orchestrating the back of the stage – by being involved in the arts, our students’ skills move beyond the classroom and carry forward into college and professional life . (photo 8)

FRIDA KAHLO PORTRAITSEach year the ULS Spanish Department chooses an area of Spanish or Latin American culture for a learning focus; this year our exploration covered Latin American artists and muralists . Lower School and grades five and six enthusiastically investigated the work and life of Mexican artist Frida Kahlo . The children channeled their “inner Fridas” and painted their own portraits, which they sketched lying on their backs while looking at mirrors taped to the underside of tables . They included exaggerated details, lush tropical backgrounds and bright colors in their work, as did Frida . (photo 9)

ALPINE SKIINGFor the second year in a row, the women’s varsity alpine ski team finished in 3rd place overall at the Wisconsin State High School Ski Championships at Mt . La Crosse . In addition, sophomore Isabel Seidel travelled to New Hampshire to race in the Eastern High School Championships . (photo 10)

REVENUE

EXPENSES

Giving to University Lake School from July 1, 2011 – June 30, 2012 totaled $2 .6 million dollars . That is a big number . And yet, there is still a significant investment to be made. The average cost of educating a student at ULS is $20,000, and the average tuition is $13,200 . Major gifts, gifts to the annual fund, and special events make up the crucial difference for a ULS education . ULS creates an amazing education with an ambitious learning environment, an 8:1 student-faculty ratio and a passionate quest for learning for all our students . Annual Giving also provides the monies to fund tuition assistance and merit-based scholarships – so ability, not ability to pay, determines who receives a ULS education . This book is the latest expression of our gratitude for your giving . We can’t thank you enough . Your generosity makes all the difference!

University Lake School was founded in 1956 to become a premier college preparatory school in the Lake Country of Waukesha County . Throughout our history, the belief and generosity of our founders, parents, alums and friends has helped ULS strengthen and grow .

The 1956 Circle grants lifetime membership to those donors whose gifts have reached a cumulative total of $5,000 or more to one or more of the School’s charitable giving funds . Their philanthropy touches all areas of ULS, underwriting everything from scholarship and tuition assistance to new campus renovations and improvements . The circle encompasses seven levels of giving and includes contributions from 1956 through June 30, 2012 . We gratefully acknowledge these generous donors for their philanthropy and their inspiration to our entire ULS community .

I can personally say that when I came to University Lake School four years ago, I never expected that I would be transformed into the

human being that I am today with the values and education that I currently have. We have pushed our comfort zones and have pushed

our boundaries to become the people we are today.

Jared Lipman ’12 – ULS Graduation Invocation

The Class of 2012, while small, achieved big during their time at ULS. They clearly understood the college counseling office’s philosophy that college choice is first and foremost about the fit between the institution and student. We congratulate them as they successfully completed the college admission process and matriculated this past fall to 13 different institutions around the country and our state . These seniors have really achieved academically, with 40% of the class averaging in the 99% percentile on the ACT . With two National Merit Scholars, an elite athlete, service award winners, and several gifted fine and performing artists, our seniors truly portrayed the ULS “Tradition of Excellence” . All our seniors made choices based on their interests and have chosen a great match for their talents . What follows is a list of the colleges and universities to which our graduates matriculated, then a list of the schools to which our graduates have recently been admitted .
