GOD’S GIFT FOR GIVING

July 24th $ 5, 202. 00Last Year $ 6, 728. 00

For where your treasure is, there yourheart will be also. Matthew 6:21

One month ago I wrote an articlepromoting our “Online Giving Program”provided by Our Sunday Visitor, whichwe have been using for 3 months.

As pastor, I would like to thank each and every one ofour parishioners for their faithful support in giving to ourparish, either through envelopes or who are now usingour online giving program. One of the reasons I decidedto use my article again is the collections totals which arelisted above. To run a parish of this size, with manybuildings and grounds to cover, also as so manyhomeowners know, boilers, ac and general upkeep isextremely costly. Our weekly parish expenses are atleast $13, 500 (and that’s only if nothing goes wrong orneeds to be fixed). As you can see above, our collectionis $1520 less then last year and is about $8300 short ofour weekly expenses. Summer..the season of vacationsand family commitments can greatly affect the weeklyofferings of any church. Online giving was created tohelp keep the offertory strong while parishioners aretraveling. I’m sure you understand that just because it issummer, the bills of any “house”, still need to be takencare of. This is the same with OLM. Our Online Givingprogram really is a very easy process and you canaccess it by logging onto our websitewww.ourladyofmercyparish.com .by clicking the OnlineGiving button and you can sign up yourself with yourinformation. (you can even download an app for yoursmartphone or tablet) This may also be a time for you topossibly take a look at your contribution and see whetheryou can give a little more. We all know that most of the“expenses” have gone up, while salaries have not. And itreally is NO different for the Church. Whatever you cando to help our parish family will be greatly appreciated.

Love and prayersFr. Sean

LITURGY CORNERIt’s high summer now, school is out, thepace of work slows, and some people driftaway. There are visitors in the churchesevery summer, and familiar faces are“among the missing”. Some find thesummer’s call more appealing than thesummons of the church bells. Many, however, would not dream of missing a

Sunday, and so they make their way to Mass inunfamiliar places, watching the locals for clues as thewhen to sit or stand, where the Communion stations are,etc... In answering the call, they keep the “sabbatical”rhythm of the Christian life: every seventh day, the Bodyof Christ assembles for worship. For centuries, there wasno obligation to Sunday Mass in the sense of a writtenlaw, but Christians have always yearned to be togetheron Sunday. In the city of Abitina, during a persecutionby the Emperor Diocletian, a group of Christians wereurged to stop worshiping together on Sundays. Theyresponded, “Then take our lives, for without the Sundaywe cannot live.” Have a blessed week! Lisa

FAITH AT HOME

Mary was about eight years old and wasplaying beside an open window of her home. Inside a neighbor was tearfully confiding apersonal problem to Mary’s mother. After

the neighbor left, Mary’s Mom realized that herdaughter had overheard everything that was said. Mary’s mother called her inside and told her, “If ourneighbor had left her purse here today, would we give itto anyone else?“ Of course not” the girl replied. Hermother went on, “Our neighbor left something moreimportant than her purse here today. She left a storythat could make many people unhappy. That story isnot ours to give to anyone. It is still hers, even thoughshe left it here. So we won’t give it to anyone else. Doyou understand?”She did. And whenever a friendwould share a confidence, or engage in careless gossip, she considered what they said to be the personalproperty of the other person and not hers to give toanyone else. A wonderful suggestion for all of us!!!

Enjoy your week! Lisa

We would love to share projects, awards and important events ofour teens with our Parish Family.

Please email Lisa with any info you would like to share.
