SANTA TERESITA’S BI-MONTHLY NEWSLETTER OCTOBER/NOVEMBER 2018 The Rose Give Us a Miracle, Mother Luisita Damian Jude Cooper, an 8-year old who has become a friend of the Sisters, was diagnosed with a very serious form of bone cancer in July. Damian is currently going through aggressive treatment at City of Hope, and has good days and difficult days, but inspired us greatly with his faith and joy amid suffering. (Pictured to the left is his first visit to Santa Teresita!) The Coopers are requesting prayers for a miraculous recovery through the intercession of our Venerable Mother Luisita, foundress of the Carmelite Sisters of the Most Sacred Heart of Los Angeles, particularly the following novena: O Jesus in the Holy Eucharist, King and center of all hearts! Look with merciful love on the petitions we present to You through the intercession of Your servant, Mother Maria Luisa Josefa of the Most Blessed Sacrament. (For the complete recovery of Damian Jude Cooper) We humbly beseech You to glorify her who was always such a fervent lover of Your Sacred Heart by granting us these favors if they are for Your greater honor and glory. Amen. 819 Buena Vista Street, Duarte, California 91010 | 626.408. 7810 | www.santa-teresita.org | [email protected] Tony Hinojos. Being an Angelino native, I attended one of the monthly LIFE Brunches and heard that the Good Shepherd Cottage was open for tours. I moved in shortly after in July 2018. Having lived here for two months, I must say that the place is clean, it’s beautiful and peaceful. Everyone is so friendly; the nuns are so helpful. If I had to move out for some reason, I would really miss it! Shows how much of a community it has become to me.” Father Paul Farrelly, O.S.B., began his chaplaincy on August 19th, 2018. He comes to us from Prince of Peace Abbey in Oceanside. Father Paul, having grown up in Orange County, attended San Diego State University in the late 1990s. It was there that he came in contact with his call to the Benedictine monastic way of life. After a summer spent living and working with the monks, he was not yet sure of his call and was trying to “wrestle his way out of it.” The Lord won! He entered the Abbey in August 1999 and “the rest is history.” Besides the names of over 100 residents and their families, Hayden schoolchildren, and 50 Sisters to learn, Father is also learning about our foundress, Mother Luisita, who walked the holy grounds of our campus. “Mother Luisita has her eye on me. I was struck by the fact that one of the first lines I read in her letters was: ‘May God our Lord fill you with His love and holy joy.’ ‘Holy joy’ is a personal theme for me, and I witness it here at Santa Teresita, where there’s a ‘Lourdes Spirit’. It’s a holy place.” (‘Great Men at Santa Teresita’ continued on back) Great Men at Santa Teresita Father Paul Farrelly, O.S.B. Nikolas Nemeth Tony Hinojos

Nikolas Nemeth. I enjoy working as a nurse at Santa Teresita because it is a community that collaborates together as a team. We work together in not only taking care of our residents, but also taking care of each other – I feel that they are my family. The Sisters and management of Santa Teresita strive to ensure that the residents are receiving the best care by building trusting relationships, and that their employees are happy. As I continue my education toward my BSN, Santa Teresita has molded me into the best nurse I can be. The mission resonates with me. Even after residents pass on to the Lord, Santa Teresita stays in close touch with families to preserve life-long relationships, which I feel is very important. There is a light at Santa Teresita and you can feel it.

Sunday, December 2 | 4:00 p.m. | St. Joseph ChapelOur last concert with a Marian theme was such a success that we wanted to do another one - this time Advent-themed to prepare us for that holy season which is dear to the Carmelite heart. The concert will last about an hour.

“Advent is very especially the season of interior souls, those who live unceasingly and through everything wholly ‘hidden with Christ in God’ at the center of themselves.” -St. Elizabeth of the Trinity, O.C.D.

Memorial Mass for Deceased Residents and All our Loved OnesSunday, November 11 | 4:00 p.m. | St. Joseph Chapel

Write the names of your deceased loved ones in our Book of Life, and we will offer this Mass in gratitude for them. St. Ambrose says, “We have loved them during life; let us not abandon them in death” by offering our prayers for them, and asking for their valuable intercession for the infinite graces we need on our pilgrim journey on earth.
