The maximumloads of heads are generally lower than those of tripods because tripods often needto withstand additional loads and stress caused by sand bags or back packs hungfrom the tripod column hook for additional stability, strong winds, water etc.

Advances in technology are helping to gradually but consistentlyreduce the weight of camera equipment. If you are looking for asupport that maximise s imag e s tab ilisa tion, maximum loa d c apa city

is no longer enough to let you identify the c orrect s upport for yoursetup. If you only consider maximum load, you may find yourselfusing a tripod that’s strong enough to hold your equipment, butnot sturdy enough to properly stabilise your images, no matter howgood your camera or lens. While weight is decreasing, the actuallens view angle remains unchanged.A 200mm lens ha s a view ang le of 12° , while a 400mm lens ha s a6° view angle. A deviation of 6 degrees projected over a distanceof 300m is e qual to 31.5m. To take thes e c onsta nts into acc ount,the ideal tripod should really be selected according to its torsionalrig idity. The tripod ’s torsion ang le should a lwa ys be inferior to theview angle of the longest focal length lens you intend to use.G itzo’s S eries numbers help you identify the right tripod:

higher S eries tripods offer superior torsional rigidity andconsequently have a lower torsion angle. We’ve tested our tripodswith the most popular lenses on the market to identify which

S eries provides the bes t sta bilisa tion performanc e for differentfoca l lengths . For example, we recommend S eries 2 tripods foruse with 200mm lenses. If you decide to use a 200mm lens ona S eries 1 tripod, you’ll need to pa y more a ttention to keepingyour equipment steady and may have to avoid critical conditionslike strong w inds . C arbon Fiber and Ba sa lt composite tubes areengineered using aerospac e technology and are by far the besttubes on the market for camera support applications, uniquelydeveloped b y G itzo. Furthermore, s ince the introduc tion of thenew 1.2mm aluminum tube, Anti Leg Rotation is now available fortripods in all materials. The new 2 008 s eries 1, 2, 3 a nd leveling tripods , now feature th-ree different positions of leg openings: standard or high, mediumand ultra low. The ultra low pos ition is new and it allows the userto take full advanta ge o f the G round Level configuration, with thecolumn removed and the disc directly attached to the upper ca-sting. In ultra low pos ition, the g round cleara nce of the tripod isaround 8-10 cm (3.3 – 4 inches ) to guarantee eno ugh clea ranceon uneven surfaces.

It has b een reported by our testers and customers that under certain temperatures a nd co nditions the removable rubber feetand the hook as sembly had the tendency to loosen up and in sa me ca ses to get a ccidentally lost. In order to avoid this potentialannoying problem we introduced a modification to these two components in order to ensure a more solid lock and to preventany ac cidental loss. A rubber ring has been a dded so that, even in ca se the c omponents g et slightly undone, they can not keeprotating and they are sa fely kept in plac e. The new mod ified self locking feet and ho ok ass embly can not be us ed on previousgene ration tripods while new tripods ca n ac cep t the old non-self locking components . These mod ifications a re applied to allsuitable items, s uch as monopods, co lumns, a cce ssories and systematic tripods with removable feet a nd or hook asse mblies.

The new center ball and s ystematic hea ds introduce a new generation of quickrelease systems. Both systems feature a new lever locking system for improvedsa fety and c ompactness . The tension of the locking lever can be adjustedac cordingly to the plate used by means o f a s mall knob.The locking tens ion should be ad justed in order to keep the lever when clos ed,alwa ys completely folded in the rest position. For center ball heads, the size of the ba ll is important to guarantee a smoothmovement and a powerful lock. Until now a bigger ba ll had the disadvanta ge o fbeing heavy: the bigger the heavier. For this reason the choice of the size of the ballhas always been a compromise between weight and performance.S everal solutions ha ve been propose d to solve this issue, b ut they have never beenfully satisfactory. G itzo has now developed a new exclusive technology that enab lesus to produce high quality, completely round hollow spheres, with an ultra thin wall,for an incredible weight reduction. The bigg er the sphere the higher the w eightadvanta ge ag ainst competitors. In 1966 G itzo wa s the first company to introduce the c ounter balancing s ystem.We currently feature (in our range) two different balancing systems.The G 2180 head features an ultra light and compact balancing system that w orkson 7 different positions a nd that ca n be quickly and ea sily engag ed a nd disengag ed.This syste m is perfec tly symmetrica l and is spe cifica lly designe d for bird wa tchingand digi-scoping applications. It is also very convenient for video applications.The G 1380 head features a d ifferent balancing system that c an be adjusted bychanging the inner spring. With this system, it is fundamental that the weight ofthe equipment corresponds to the value of the s pring, s o that the heads workas a perfec t ba lancing sys tem. This system is spec ifica lly developed for videoapplications, and is also vastly used with very long optical equipment and lenses

The new center and off center ball heads feature a mechanicalsyste m ca lled S ADL (Spring Assisted Do uble Lock) that for the firsttime maximizes both locking power and smoothness of movementthanks to a completely new concept.This unique a nd pa tent pending syste m combines two lockingsystems in one. When the head needs to be fully locked, thesphere is compressed by a high friction metal to achieve a highefficiency lock. In all intermediate positions the sphere works onPTFE bushings tha t maximize smoothnes s and control.The P TFE bushing is c ontrolled by a preset spring. In order to help these components to deliver their mission, itis recommended to always use the proper grease every time your tripod is cleaned.G itzo uses a special product that guarantees a s mooth operation and protects themetal surfaces from excessive wearing over time. Furthermore, thanks to its specialformula, it is not sticky in order to avoid attracting dust, sand and other dirt that maydramatically reduce the locking system life time.This greas e is now ava ilab le in convenient small tubes s old in a se t of two. Ea chtube is enough to lubricate a four section tripod. We always recommend to usea minimal quantity of grease. An excessive amount may attract undesired dirt andreduce the locking ability of the system.

In order to make our new products and range easier tounderstand, G itzo has renewed the product cod ing s ystem.The new cod ing s ystem is bas ed on letters and digits that

des cribe the produc t charac teristics . Thanks to thisse lf-explana tory cod ing sys tem it is very eas y to identify theproduct a nd the different versions relea sed . P roducts a redescribed taking into account the category, the materialused, the main characteristics (like number of sections andhead type) and o ther as pects , like height, a cc ess ories,special series and other useful information.While the coding system is probably easier to interpret formain products like tripods, monopods and heads, it is moredifficult for the accessories, even if it follows the same logicscheme for all products.All codes that begin with two letters follow the newself-explanatory scheme. Other codes that begin with oneletter only follow the old code. All future new products willfollow the new cod ing s ystem.

The Oc ea n-Lock is a spe cial version of GitzoG -Lock of which it maintains the sa me outstand inglocking performance s. Thanks to two spe cial sea lsderived form the automation industry, it minimisesthe amount of water and debris that may e ntertubes a nd loc king mecha nisms. The Oc ea n-Lockis not 100% waterproof, however it dramaticallyenhances the ca pacity of the tripod to w ithstandextreme environments.

This new fe ature allows you to remove the ce ntercolumn to save weight and get the camera closer tothe ground. Us es existing components: the upperdisc with revers ible 1/4” - 3/8” bolt and the co lumnhook assembly: remove column and fix the diskdirectly to the upper casting using the column hook.No tools needed.

G -Lock is the new G itzo leg locking s ystem.The locking mec hanism has bee n completelyredesigned in order to achieve a 20% increase inrigidity, faster operation and stronger, safer locking.G -Lock’s spec ial des ign a lso provides a “gravitylock” effect: the higher the load applied vertically tothe leg, the stronger the lock.
