Who are we?

Our Mission

Our Goals

Commission members are dedicated in spreading the message of awareness and equality of gender identity and sexual orientation through education and advocacy.Members are appointed by the President of the university and consist of approximatelyeight members, as well as a chair orco-chairs. Compostion may include students,faculty, staff and administration members.Both individuals of the LGBT+ communityand allies make up the Commission. AllCommission members are Safe Zone trainedand expected to attend at least twomeetings per semester. Each member works together and strives to embrace divery onthe Slippery Rock University campus.

The President’s Commission forGender Identity and Sexual

Orientation strives to address LGBT issues that move Slippery Rock

University toward a more inclusive and supportive campus climate that is free of discrimination, intolerance

and bigotry. We work toward anunderstanding and appreciation of differences in our diverse faculty,

staff, and students.

• Assess campus climate as it pertains to LGBT+ persons and make recommendations for improvement.

• Address heterosexism, homophobia, and anti-gay abuse or violence, should such incidents occur.

• Advise the President regarding LGBT+ issues and inclusion, as well as work to alleviate barriers and obstacles.

• Recommend changes that may become part of the university curriculum or training programs to enable students, faculty, and staff to function in a diverse society.

• Serve as advocates for, and leaders of, the institutional changes, required for SRU to become a multicultural campus community, respectful of all people.

• Promote activities that demonstrate the university’s commitment to diversity.

• Review campus policies for their effect on LGBT+ persons addressing issues of adverse impact.

• Provide a vehicle for communication between LGBT+ students, faculty, staff and university administration.
