Giraffes Can’t
Dance
Last Friday the Pre-Primary children from Wattle 9 gave a magnificent performance of Giles Andreae’s story “Giraffes Can’t Dance”. There were some amazing dances. Who would have thought it possible that Warthogs could Waltz, Rhinos could Rock and Roll, Lions could Tango, Chimps could do the Cha-Cha and Baboons could do the Scottish Reel. Truly extraordinary! Gerald (played by Charlie) was sad at first as he did not think that he could dance. Once the cricket (played by Connor) helped him to realize that he could dance by encouraging him to try then Gerald gave a fantastic performance to “Boogie Wonderland”. The animals then all complimented him on his awesome dancing. This part of our story reflected upon our PATHS lessons about compliments. It also reminds us that being kind and helping our friends is important in helping them to try new things. There are many messages in this story one of the main ones is as Jay said, “Everyone is different at different things,” and we need to accept others’ differences. With a little advice and encouragement, Gerald soon learnt that it's ok to be different, sashaying and boogying, Gerald finds his rhythm and shines. We had a great time practising and performing our assembly especially the dances. A big thank you to all our mums and dads who did an amazing job in making our costumes. Mrs Toner and Mrs Armstrong could not be more proud of us! We really are the Wattle 9 Champions and everyone heard us “ROAR”.

Wattle 9 Assembly
Congratulations to Mrs Toner and her wonderful class for the lovely assembly last Friday.
We have introduced a new whole school social and emotional program PATHS (Promoting Alternative Thinking Strategies)
This program is designed to support children’s emotional development.
“The Giraffe that Couldn’t Dance”, is a lovely reminder of how everyone is different and everyone is good at different
things. We should celebrate those differences.
Thank you Wattle 9 for reminding us.
Cross Country Interschool Carnival
On Tuesday 18 August the cross country team took to the track at Burrendah Reserve. Led by the enthusiastic Mr Boyes,
everyone was determined to do their best. Bull Creek came first in the Handicap Shield and was third overall; we are the
second smallest school in the competition. All of the team can be very proud of their fantastic effort. Well done Bull Creek!
We had seven children who finished in the top three and were rewarded with a trophy, an amazing effort given that there
were 35 runners in each race.

Book Week - Activities
Congratulations to all of the children who dressed up as a book character on Tuesday and a huge thank you to all the parents
for your support. I think it was the best Book Week Parade we have had in the school. A special thank you to Mrs Williams
for organising all of the prizes- a book mark for everyone who dressed up and a book for the winners of each class.
Of course the parade is not just about dressing up but it is the catalyst used to encourage our students to read, show them the
importance we place on reading and to develop a love of learning.

Cont …. Incursion- Jack Flash and the Jumping Beanstalk
The children thoroughly enjoyed this presentation that conveyed the message about not littering and to REDUCE,
RE-USE, RECYCLE.
Something to look forward to!
Massed Choir
On the 3 September the senior choir will be joined by other schools to perform as a massed choir in Winthrop Hall at the
University of WA. There is something very special about 450 children all singing as one!!! It is quite spectacular. Not only
that Dhanya will be a compare and Jocynta will be performing a solo. Congratulations to these children as they had to
audition to be selected.
Glee
The following week we have our Glee students performing at the Crown Theatre. The soloists for Glee are Lucy, Leona,
Ella and Layla. This will also be a fantastic event and another great night out!
“Laternenlauf”
Once again the annual Lantern walk was a big success. The weather was great and a terrific sense of community with lots
of enthusiastic lantern walkers. A special thank you to Frau Colgan for all her organisation.
We have many very talented students at Bull Creek and are very proud of them all.
This brings me back to my initial comment about celebrating our differences, whether that is a different culture, a different
language, the way we look or just being good at different things.
Thank you for taking the time to read this newsletter.
