Augusta Westland 139 – Esso’s latest helicopter.

Guest Speaker:

Chairman Adrian introduced our Guest Speaker Stuart Henderson, David Tulloch’s son in law and

Esso Helicopter Engineer.

Stuart is a local who attended Sale Tech under the watchful eye of maths teacher, President Elect Rod, gaining and apprenticeship with Esso at age 17 and is still with them 31 years later.

Stuart’s vast experience has left him well placed to oversee the introduction of Esso’s new fleet of helicopters, the British / Italian built Augusta Westland 139. (see picture above).

Stuart manages a fleet of 6 Sikorski F76 helicopters which will be replaced by 4 of the new Augusta Westland 139s. The team are slowly coming to the conclusion of a lengthy and complicated changeover process with the 1st new helicopter due in June. The current fleet accommodates 25,000 passenger movements per year equivalent to 93,000 flying hours. With 21 offshore facilities to service, the current aircraft have completed almost 1 million flights.

The new helicopters will accommodate 12 passengers and 2 crew. The 2003 model is fitted with the latest safety equipment and is considered a “well sorted” aircraft with another 20 years of service expected and a mind boggling $14 million price tag per aircraft! A major safety program is being undertaken for all users plus a comprehensive training program for the mechanics who will service the aircraft.

Chairman Keith, in thanking Stuart, mentioned the great cooperation between Esso and the RAAF over many years. Adrian thanked Stuart with a small presentation and thanked David for organizing the evening.

President’s Announcements:

Acting President Adrian welcomed back Christina and Lyndon.

Adrian advised us that Bob Davis was still in intensive care in the Austin Hospital after a heart attack and a fall resulting in head injuries. Adrian is in contact with Mike Smith who is liaising with Bob’s wife Denise to keep us up to date with developments. Although serious, Bob is stable and should recover well. We wish him well and a speedy return to our ranks.

Charity Auction: 2 weeks to go. Let Rod know if you are available to assist. Members urged to commence inviting guests. Watch for email updates from Rod.

Rachel’s year coming to a close. Adrian has been invited by Rod to continue as programs director. He has agreed to do so but requests help from members to ensure the quality of guests is maintained.

From President Rachel: The Police are putting on the thank you to volunteers and

that includes us as Rotary members. I had informed Kim Kell that we had esky's, pie

warmer & ice (borrowed from SCFC with help of Rick & Lynda to acquire) and could

put up our banner. This event is on Saturday 14 May 11 am - 1 pm. Is anyone

intending to go and if so anyone willing to help me out with the setup of drinks and be

there to talk about our Rotary Programs?

Rod and Laurie have been collecting items with the support of other members. We need more guests to attend

so Rod suggested that…” We need to go and knock up our neighbours”.

Bowell Scan Program. Kits now available in local Chemists.

Next program on May 16 will be Drs Campbell and Barry who will report on the Monash Rural Health

Program.

National Volunteer Week (NVW) is an annual celebration to acknowledge the generous

contribution of our nation’s volunteers. As a return for their hard work and time sacrifice to help others, we are putting on a sausage sizzle on Saturday 14th May, 2016 at Brennan Park located at Stawell

Street, Sale between 11am – 1pm. Please come down and celebrate the Volunteers dedication to our community.

We wish to thank the Volunteers from:
