Newsletter Week 8 Term 3 2017 Term 4 Day 1 Please be reminded that Gilgai Public school will not be open on Monday 9th October 2017 which is scheduled to be the first day back for Term 4. All our teachers will be attending ongoing professional development as part of the wider Sapphire Community of Schools involvement with the Corwin project. First day back for students for Term 4 will be Tuesday the 10th October 2017. Book Week Last week was Book Week with the theme, ‘Books Take Us On Adventures’, and our staff did an amazing job transforming our school library to take our students on a fantastic adventure! Our Book Week dress up day was held on Thursday and we had some amazing characters show up at school. Thank you to our students, parents and staff for a great effort celebrating Book Week. The following report was written by Savannah Maybury. Pottery Thank you to Belinda Savill who worked with our Year 4/5/6 students last Tuesday, teaching them the basics of hand pottery. The kids had a great time creating some amazing hanging hens. They are now looking forward to their pieces being fired and having another session to glaze and finish them off. We look forward to seeing their finished work. Water Watch Matt from Thalgarrah Environmental Education Centre will be visiting our school next Monday 11th September. He will be working with our Year 4/5/6 class on the Water Watch Program in the middle session, and doing work with microscopes in the afternoon. This year it is based on Space. In the library this time it is space, creatures and other space stuff— stars, moons, astronauts and alien costumes to wear - glow sticks and tinsel hair. The library was called, “Welcome to the Milky Way”. It had Mrs T’s black calming hanger turned into a time machine. There is one thing left which is the short book list. The winner was “Home in the Rain”. Two days later there is a book week celebration where everyone dresses up as a space person or any other book character.

P&C Lunch

Leadership Morning Our Year 6 students enjoyed meeting with other Year 6 leaders from various schools at Inverell Public last Tuesday. They enjoyed some interactive games that encouraged students to get to know each other, and finished their time together with a morning tea. The morning was a great success, and the possibility of having a similar activity next year was discussed. Transition to High School Our Year 6 students will have a visit from teachers from Macintyre High School tomorrow to speak to them about their transition to High School. This will be followed up with their first half day transition to Macintyre next Tuesday 12th September. Orientation to Kindergarten Orientation to Kindergarten commences Term 4 Week 3. Please contact the office for further enquiries.

Inverell RSM Helping Out Gilgai Public School The Inverell RSM Club have a Community Matters Program they run through their Bistro every 3 months, and this time around they are focusing on small schools. Gilgai School will have the opportunity to win $600 or be a runner up for $200. The program started last Friday 1st September. Please read details to see how you can be a part of this program. P&C News P&C Meeting The next P&C meeting will be held tonight, Tuesday 5th September. PLEASE NOTE THAT THE MEETING TIME IS REVERTING BACK TO 7PM.
