Greetings, November was a great month. Our Annual Business Meeting went well on November 16th, and our Church-Wide Thanksgiving Dinner at the High School was fantastic as al-ways. I want to thank Margaret Wittman and the Kitchen Committee for doing such a great job this year with so many special events. Our last Wednesday night supper this year will be on December 14th for our caroling night, and we will start back up with our Wednesday night services on January 11, 2017. We had a very good month in terms of the number of worshipers we averaged in November. God richly blessed us this month as we had 14 people join the church, witnessed two baptisms, and aver-aged 461 worshipers every Sunday, a 14% increase over last year’s average of 399. We are also finish-ing up a fantastic 2016 year. As an insert to this newsletter, you will find a copy of my 2016 Pastor’s Annual Report from the Annual Business Meeting. In it you will see the wonderful year of growth we have been blessed with as a church. Praise be to God! November was such an exciting month in terms of enjoying our first full month in the new Wor-ship Center. It doesn’t seem possible that last year at this time we were just beginning to do our ground excavation, surveying, and the digging of the footers for our new building with the anticipa-tion of pouring the cement slab. We were so worried last year that the forecast of cold and wintry weather in December might delay the building of the steel structure. Even with the few weather de-lays that we had, God’s timing was perfect as we dedicated our new building not quite a year later on October 30, 2016. Praise God! To begin the month of December, we will be kicking off our Week of Prayer for International Missions (Dec 4-Dec 11). Our goal this year for the Lottie Moon Christmas Offering is $9000.00. This offer-ing supplies the needs of our missionaries all around the world. Our Parade of Flags Ceremony is always a beautiful picture of the many places for which we do missions abroad. We are now collect-ing food for the Christmas Store. This is the 43rd year that the Christmas Store has worked to pro-vide a Christmas Meal for individuals in need. Last year the Christmas Store served over a thousand individuals. The grocery bags for the store are in the foyer and need to be returned to the church by December 4, 2016. A list of needed groceries is also on each shopping bag. Christmas Musical: Our Christmas Musical is being presented to our church and community on

December 3rd and 4th at 7:00 p.m. with an additional showing on Sunday Decem-ber 4th at 3:00 p.m. The musical is entitled “Gifts”. Every year we have hundreds of people attend these performances who will hear the Christmas message of the gos-pel. We are praying that each one of those who attend this year will receive this gift of love from our church as a means of experiencing God’s free gift of eternal life. Plan now not only to attend, but to invite someone God lays on your heart to attend as well. Fliers are available in the foyer to share with others.

Page 3

Drive-Thru Living Nativity: Our Living Nativity is just around the corner as it is coming up on December 9th-10th from 6:00 to 8:00 p.m. in our church parking lot. We will hopefully have over a thousand people who will see this wonderful presentation of the gospel from the birth of Christ all the way to His resurrection. We always have room for more people to become involved if you would like to join this group. What a wonderful way to complement your own individual preparation for Christmas. Please help us get the word out to our community. We will also be doing a special Living Nativity at the Court House on December 3rd. Let us know if you would like to be a part of that as well.

Two of our Wednesday nights in December are going to be very special as we will be having Deacon Ordination on December 7th at 6:30 p.m. in the Worship Center. We will be observing the Laying on of Hands as we ordain Roger Miller to the Deacon Ministry. Also on Wednesday night,

December 14, we will be going to the nursing homes to do some Christmas caroling at 6:30 p.m. after our Wednesday night supper that night. Christmas Eve Services: On December 24th at 5:00 p.m., we will be having our Lord’s Supper Candlelight Service in the Worship Center. It is always a beautiful well-attended service in our church. You will want to come early to get a good seat. We will be singing familiar carols and hearing beautiful Christmas music together. This will be our first year in a long time of doing just one service. Please use all of our Christmas events and fellowships as opportunities to reach people in our community for Christ. Special Christmas and New Years Services: With Christmas and New Years Day falling on Sunday this year, we are planning on having just one worship service on December 25th and January 1st. There will be no Sunday School on Christmas, but we will be having a Special Visionary Sunday School Session in the Family Life Center on New Years Day at 9:00 a.m. for all youth, college stu-dents, and adults who wish to come led by Jeff Gibson and Brent Bullard. Our Nursery, Preschool, and Children’s Sunday School classes will meet as usual in their regular classrooms at 9:00 a.m. Looking forward to a great month ahead, Pastor Randy P.S. With all of our special church Christmas events and Sunday School class parties going on this month, be praying about someone you might invite to attend. You might be surprised how many are just waiting to be asked.

Page 4

Will you celebrate the Christmas season by enjoying and sharing the Christmas Chorale and Drama Department presentation, “Gifts”??? The Chorale will be singing eleven selections that highlight special aspects of the Christmas story. New song titles include; “Sing Joy!”, “Waiting”, “Mary Had a Baby”, “Somebody Build a Manger”, “This Holy Night”, “Run, Shepherds!”, “Adore”, and “Let Your Light Shine”. These new songs will be accompanied by old favor-ites that include: “O Come, All Ye Faithful”, “Tell It on the Mountain”, and “Somewhere In My Memory”. Interspersed among the songs will be six thoughtful, humorous, and powerful drama vignettes about gifts we can give and/or receive this season. They are hope, adoption, grace, reconciliation, Jesus, and expectancy. I en-courage you to prayerfully consider these gift giving and receiving situations and arrive at the program with sof-tened hearts. GPBC… We can make a difference in our church and greater community this Christmas season by living in the truth of the good news and BEING gift givers. I hope, in the midst of the hustle and bustle of the holiday sea-son, that you will make time to energize yourself in the light and remember that Jesus’ birth was in fact one of the most unique, miraculous events in all of history. I encourage you to pray for your friends, neighbors, colleagues, and family mem-bers during this season. Pray that they would be ready for this Christmas season and that they would not miss the miracle of Jesus’ birth. Be confident in our Music, Drama, and Tech Ministries and invite them to the GPBC production, “Gifts” to be performed on December 3rd at 7pm, and December 4th at 3pm and 7pm. I promise you an exciting, sensitive, thought provoking proclamation of the King of Kings, and the season of the miracle of His birth. “To Know Christ and To Make Him Known” - David

Three Intentional Christmas Gift Ideas

Parents & Grandparents, as you begin and finish off your Christmas shopping lists, allow me to give you a few suggestions. Below are a few key items that your student will not only enjoy, but see the purpose of the particular gift as they look forward to retreat weekends, mission trips, and growing in their walk with Christ. A tool for ministry: I recommended it last year , but I have to say it again, you can’t go wrong with a

cot! You can find them at Walmart for around $35. I can’t tell you how much of a blessing a cot is for ones back compared to the floor. On mission trips, retreats, camping nights, or other events, the cot will help to provide for better rest which means a better experience. They are easy to pack and will outlive an air mattress. Or you could go with a nice sleeping bag.

A tool for the mind: It’s so important to begin building your students’ library. Even if they are not readers, we need to encourage them and demonstrate the value of study. Otherwise they will get eaten alive in the next stage of life by secular professors, pop culture, and the like. A One Volume Bible commentary. No commentary is perfect, but a good commentary can be a

good reference for use as a fall back to hear another’s thoughts on a passage. One of the best single volume commentaries is, The New Bible Commentary by IVP published in 1994 ($30ish dollars).

A good study Bible. I often get this question. I have no hesitations in recommending the ESV Stu-dent Study Bible Hardcover edition ($28). It’s a good tool, with great resources inside. You can always upgrade if you want, but I wouldn’t go less than the hardcover. It also passes the “looks test” which means your teen will have no anxieties toting it around into their 20s. The regular ESV Study Bible is excellent as well. I believe you will never regret investing in a nice study bible that one can have for decades and teenagers are proud to show them off to others.

A systematic theology book. Again, there is no perfect systematic theology book. We should al-ways go to the Bible book by book to appreciate and best grasp the context of the passages. With that said, a good systematic theology book can be a helpful resource for gaining sound theology at a quick pace. You can pick up Wayne Grudem’s “Systematic Theology” right now on Amazon for $25ish.

A Missions Offering Gift: Ask your student to pray about giving to our Lottie Moon International Missions offering. They will likely receive some amount of cash for Christmas, encourage them to pray about giving a portion of it to support missions. AND/OR you can share with them how much money you are planning to spend on them for Christmas gifts, ask them from of that amount, if they would pre-fer some of it to be given to them in cash and allowing them to place it in the offering plate in a Lottie Moon Missions offering envelop as an obedient act of worship. NOW is the time to teach our children to give joyfully to missions. What a blessing it is to give!

December: A month of Opportunities Every year, the holiday season becomes one of the darkest times of year for depres-sion & suicide. People are hungry for good news and there is no better news that the Gospel! This is one reason that we as Christians must be quick to share the good news of Christ & extend invitations to the wealth of activities taking place at Grover this month. In the month of December in addition to our usual Sunday services, two nights of Living nativity, three performances of the Christmas Program, one special Christmas Eve service, one special Christmas day service, one night of Christmas caroling, & numerous Sunday School class fellowships. If you are currently connected to a Sunday School class, take the opportunity this month to personally invite one person with you to join you in class. That person may or may not already be connected to our church family. There are many members and visitors who may sit around you in the worship service who have never personally been invited to a Sunday School. Make no mistake, regardless of how good a mass announcement is, it doesn’t hold a candle to a personal invitation. The opportunities are all around us, but only we can make the decision to take them or let them slip away. Even though there will be no Sunday School on December 25th, On January 1st there will be one joint Sunday School event at 9:00am in the FLC for all of our Sunday School classes, Middle School and up, to join together in prayer, encouragement, thanksgiving, and vision as we begin 2017 seeking to know Christ and to make Him known through each of our Sunday School classes. Can’t wait!

“He said to the, “Go into all the world and preach the gospel to all creation”. - Mark 16:15

We completed our Operation Christmas Child collection last Friday, November 18th. Our number for this year is 118 boxes. These gifts will bring joy to many

children along with sharing our Lord’s love with them.

December is a very busy month for Grover Park. The fun starts Dec. 3rd, at the Court-house lawn during Dickens Christmas. This is the 4th year we have been asked to bring a scene from the Live Nativity. What a blessing this is for us to be asked to share the Love of our Lord on the Courthouse Lawn. We

will be meeting at the church at 9:00 to load up props and get in costume. Please let us know if you can help us out. As we visit with folks we hand out information about the programs at Grover Park.

The Living Nativity will be Dec. 9 and 10th. If you haven't signed up yet there is still time. We will be having supper at 5:00, in costumes and be in place at your scene by

5:45. This is a huge production and many folks make this possible. Invite your families and friends to drive through and be blessed.

This is our annual gift to the community during this special time of the year.

Following the Courthouse, we will present the Parade of Flags at both services. This is a time when our Children carry the flags of the world to the front

of the Sanctuary. Each flag represents an area of service by IMB. Currently we have Terry and Sheila and girls serving in England and

Michael and Debbie Hughes and children serving in South East Asia. This also starts the Week of Prayer for International Missions,

which is also the beginning of our Lottie Moon offering. Our goal for this year is $9000.00. Grover Park has always been a great contributor to the IMB Mission offering.

You all should have grocery sacks in your Sunday School room that has a menu on it for the Christmas Store. Those are due by Dec. 11th. A big Thank you goes out to Elaine Thompson for taking this project and all the hard work put into it.

As many of you know we have supported Grace Baptist Church, Grace Christian School and Grace Guest House in Mare Rouge, Haiti. We have prayed about support-

ing Grace Christian Missions about giving a monthly support for these outreaches. Starting January 1, 2017 we will be sending them a monthly

support. Since the Hurricane they have had such need for food, clean water and general life needs. If any of you feel lead to give to this Mission Field please just put Grace Christian Missions on

your offering envelope. For those of you who currently support a child going to Grace Christian School or those who would like to start supporting a child this is the process.

Another area that has come to our attention in the last few days is the need for support to J.C.C.A. (Johnson County Christian Academy). We have felt lead to support them

in a financial monthly gift. As many of you know there are four folks from Grover that currently teach out there. It is so refreshing to go into a building where you can share

our Lord, pray, read the Scriptures and grow the Kingdom without fear of retaliation. We also have Grover children that attend the school also, If indeed you feel lead

to help support this school please list on your envelope. This school is one of the best keep secrets in Johnson County but it is a secret no more. Praise God the Father.

Hi Grover Family, It has been a great month, with attendance in Kids Ministry on Sunday Mornings ranging from 30-40 each week between Sun-day School and Kids Church! That is so amazing. We are so grateful as a ministry for the trust that Grover has placed in us. As I write this, I am excited for the final Sunday in November, where our kids will be participating in a Talent Show. We have such talent here at Grover and I love seeing the young ones mus-tering up that courage to perform for Jesus! December has some unique, once a year opportunities for your kids. On December 4th, we are doing our Parade of Flags. This is a special ceremony honoring world missions. Kids will walk up flags from various countries and a gray flag will also be there to represent those countries for which the missionaries are going to that for safety reasons they can’t tell us about. On December 18th, the students will get the “back story” of Lottie Moon, and the great work she labored for. Our Teaching Calendar for Kids Church:

Grover Preschool Parkies Newsletter A Word From Our Sponsors

Hello, Melissa here! Have you met Finn? Finn is a member of our nursery class. If you don't know Finn,

he is such a sweet child. Finn is one of the friendliest kids around. He loves to interact with the other kids in our room and is always willing to be a buddy. It's amazing to watch as Godly friendships develop so early

in life. The friendships Finn makes at church will build a positive connection to fellowship and more importantly to Christ. In God's word we read, "Two are better off than one, for they can help each other

succeed. If one person falls, the other can reach out and help. But someone who falls alone is in real trouble." Ecclesiastes 4:9- 10 When we're like Finn and build Godly friendships we will not be easily broken.

I want to give a special thank you to everyone who helped in the process of moving the nursery into it's new space. God blessed us with so many people

that were willing to sacrifice their time and make the nursery what it is. Thank you so much for all your hard work. - Melissa Plummer

December Preschool Newsletter

What's Happening:

Our first set of volunteers have finished

their round of helping out, and now

there are some new faces in the

preschool rooms. If you see these people

in the halls give them a high five.

The 2/3's room will have Rebecca

Norton, Faith Barker, Krystal Knight and

Sherry Collins. And the 4/5's room will

have Dennis Crowden, Kelly Crowden.

We have had a great group of people

stepping up and volunteering.

Jesus' Birthday! “For to us a child is born, to us a son is given, and the

government will be on his shoulders. And he will be called Wonderful Counselor, Mighty God, Everlasting Father,

Prince of Peace.” - Isaiah 9:6

At a young age, children learn how exciting a birthday party can be. Christmas is a celebration of Jesus' birth

that we get to celebrate. It is vital to keep our focal point on Jesus our Savior.

How to have a Birthday Party for Jesus

You will need: birthday hats (homemade of course) cake and icing (also homemade) a sign saying "Happy Birthday, Jesus!"

(you guessed it homemade) candles bible nativity scene

Days leading up to the birthday party read from the Bible the account of Jesus' birth, Luke 2:1-16. Laying out a Nativity scene in front or a picture of one can help when your reading about the people. You can point them out to your children. On Christmas Eve

have your hats made. Hang up your signs and then on Christmas morning it's PARTY TIME!! You get to sing, "Happy Birthday, Jesus!" Blow out the candles and eat cake. You can use this time to ask your children what

gifts would they bring Jesus? Finish with a prayer thanking God for this special birthday celebration.
