CHEATED

In the beginning of the story the mom had to tell the children that their dad couldn't stay with them any more. Ben asked why and she told him that he had another wife and kids. So Ben understood and took the bad news kind of well.

HELP

Today we read that the mom decided to go to a mental institution so that she could get some help. The kids were able to stay with another relative while their mom was away.

School

This part of the story we found out that Ben was actually able to go to school. The bad news is that he was failing, but the good news is that they found out that the problem was that he needed glasses. After getting glasses he improved a whole lot in school.

EVERYTHINGS NEW

Everything is getting harder and everything is new. First a gang had threatened Bennie which frightened him some. One other thing is that he started to worry more about his clothes, which people made fun of.

Today we read that Bennie met this girl named Lacena Rustin who he seemed to admire. Other people also said that they should get together sometime. They also said that they fit right together. Bennie is thinking that he is not ready for a real relationship, he is trying to focus on school.

Getting started @ moving on

Ben is finally able to go to the hospital and help out after that he actually became a doctor. The bad part of the job is that most of the patients were very racist about a black doctor working with their child. After struggling with the racist patients the boss stood up and said stay and get help or leave. After that nothing had happened.

Moving up

Today we read that dr. Ben Carson was able to go to Australia and that candy was pregnant. While on the trip Ben was able to really succeed at his doctor skills. Though some people couldn’t believe what Ben did for a career.

Hemispherectomy

Later in the book Dr. Ben Carson had to do his first hemispherectomy on a child named Miranda. The girl had about 100 seizures everyday. Before she couldn’t find any help anywhere. When they had heard that Ben could do something for her they took that really risky chance and told him that that was there last opportunity.

Ben Carson was known for this. Ben had started to do more and more hemispherectomies on different patients. There have been a whole lot of great stories except for a few. Even though it may seem that dr. Ben Carson is good at surgery not all of his surgeries were successful. Just because a few weren't successful doesn’t mean he doesn't try his best.
