Dear Parents and Friends of James Monroe, With the first quarter of the school year rapidly coming to an end, I would like to take this opportunity to highlight some of our studentssuccesses and to apprise you of a few of our scheduled events for November. We are proud of our Yellow Jackets for many reasons. Thirty-three students were inducted into the National Honor Society in October. The new JAYEM A.M. rotation has gotten off to a great start with all students taking advantage of the opportunity to receive enrichment, support, and remediation each day. Our student athletes have had successful fall sports seasons. During the last week of October, the boysand girlscross coun- try teams competed in the Conference 28 Meet at Oatlands. The boysteam fin- ished in second place and will advance to the Region 3A meet in November. The varsity field hockey team has advanced to the Conference 19 Tournament as the number one seed. The varsity football team will play their final regular season game at King George against the Foxes on November 4. The team has secured a playoff berth and will advance to the Region 3A tournament which begins on November 11. These are but a few of our accomplishments, and it is only the be- ginning of November! First semester benchmark testing will begin on November 1 and conclude on No- vember 4. The first nine weeks grading period ends on November 7, and Novem- ber 8 is a teacher workday and school will not be in session. Report cards will be issued on November 16 to all students. On November 17, we will hold our first Parent-Teacher Conferences from 3:00-5:00 P.M. Appointments are necessary and may be scheduled by calling 372-1100 and speaking to Mrs. Limberick, Mr. Jones, or Ms. Matthew. Parents are reminded of the next James Monroe Booster Club meeting which will be held on November 3 at 6:00 P.M. in the Lecture Hall. The importance of daily preparation, responsibility, and good decision making cannot be overstated. Academic achievement for all James Monroe High School students is a top priority. As our students continue to adjust to the new A/B schedule, please encourage them to review course material each day. Enjoy the information included in the November newsletter and have a wonderful fall holiday. School will be in session until 2:45 P.M. on Tuesday, November 22 and will resume at 7:45 A.M. on Monday, November 28.
