    JAMBI PROVINCEBUKIT TIGAPULUH

Bukit Tigapuluh forest landscape encompasses an area of approximately 508,000 hectares of moderately undulating and steep hilly terrain. The area stretches across Riau and Jambi provinces in Sumatra Island, and is a landscape recognised to have high biological diversity. Central to the landscape is the 144,000 hectares Bukit Tigapuluh National Park, consisting primarily of tropical lowland forest

with 77% of the area located in Riau and 23% in Jambi province. The Bukit Tigapuluh forest landscape is one of the few remaining refuges of endangered species such as the Sumatran tiger, Sumatran elephant, and Asian tapir, and is home to the Talang Mamak and Suku Anak Dalam indigenous people.

Giam Siak Kecil Bukit Batu (GSK-BB) is one of seven Biosphere Reserves in Indonesia. Located in Riau province, Sumatra, Indonesia, some 120 km north of the Equator, or roughly 200 km southwest of Singapore. This is a contiguous landscape covering over 705,000 hectares, established in 2009 during the 21st Session of the International Coordinating Council of the Man and the Biosphere Programme UNESCO. The area is managed using the UNESCO Man and Biosphere concept where key stakeholders work together to sustainably manage the areas resources. The biosphere reserve consists of three main zones, 1) a 178,722 hectares core

area designated for conservation and research; 2) a 222,245 hectares buffer zone for activities compatible with sound forest management practices including APP pulpwood suppliers plantation forest; and 3) a 304,123 hectares transition zone for intensive cultivation or production activities. The core conservation area of the biosphere reserve is a tropical peat swamp forest containing significant amounts of above and below ground carbon, a wealth of flora and fauna including protected flora species and endangered mammals such as the Sumatran tigers and elephants, and important fresh water fish species.

    DANGKU

Dangku landscape is a mosaic landscape consisting of conservation forest, protected forest, production forest and ecosystem restoration areas in Musi Banyu Asin regency, South Sumatra province. The core area of the landscape is the 32,000 hectares Dangku Wildlife Reserve, which functions as an important habitat for Sumatran tiger, and as a refuge area for various types of wildlife and endangered animals such as Sumatran

elephant, tapir, and sun bear. The lowland forest area of Dangku Wildlife Reserve is covered by various high value plant species such as meranti, tembesu, merbau and jelutung. The production forest in the landscape also has a significant role in the landscape, by providing connectivity between sub-areas of Sumatran tiger population therefore ensuring the genetic stream between their populations.

BERBAK SEMBILANGJAMBI & SOUTH SUMATRA PROVINCE

This landscape refers to a large area in parts of South Sumatra and Jambi province. There are two national parks in this landscape. The Sembilang National Park extends northward from the mouth of Musi Banyu Asin estuary to the River Benu on the Jambi border where it becomes contiguous with the Berbak National Park. The Sembilang National Park is approximately 205,750 hectares and is the largest remaining area of mangroves in Western Indonesia. The Berbak National

Park, which lies wholly within Jambi province, is approximately 171,635 hectares of pre-dominantly peat swamp, and palm swamp forest with freshwater swamp forest along the rivers. The Berbak Sembilang landscape has been established as a priority landscape for tigers in Sumatra, where currently there is a viable tiger population. In addition, the landscape also has high biodiversity and is an important temporary migratory bird habitat.

The Kerumutan landscape is a peat swamp forest in Riau province, in the central of Sumatra island. The landscape is largely made up of the 93,000-hectare Kerumutan Wildlife Reserve. There are various types of protected flora and fauna found in the landscape such as meranti (Shorea spp) and punak (Tetramerista glabra),

Senepis is one of the landscapes located in northern Riau province dominated by peat swamp forests that also functions as one of the provinces critical habitat for Sumatran tiger, clouded leopard, sun bear, pangolin, hornbills, and various rare and endangered timber species. In 2006, the Minister of Forestry of the Republic of Indonesia issued a decree that gave principal approval for the

clouded leopard and sun bear. The Kerumutan wildlife sanctuary is also identified as temporary migratory bird habitat, an Important Bird Area, and is home to several indigenous communities. The protection of the reserve is dependent on the sustainable management of the wider Kerumutan landscape.

establishment of a 106,081 hectares Senepis-Buluhala Sumatran Tiger Sanctuary. The main part of this landscape is a selective logging (Diamond Raya Timber) concession and therefore, the protection and management of the sanctuary as well as its surrounding landscapes requires a multi-stakeholder collaborative management approach.
