Airbus and Mubadala signeda strategic agreement for further composite and metallic aerostructure production in the UAE yesterday, in addition to procurement of composite raw materials, worth US$2.5 billion

Airbus has made further commitments to awarding work packages to Strata, Mubadala’s advanced composite aerostructures manufacturing plant.

This agreement builds upon the ones already signed by Strata to provide flap track fairings for the manufacturer’s fleet of A330, A340, A350 XWB and A380

aircraft. In February, the first four fully assembled Airbus A330 ailerons to be put together by Strata Manufacturing in Al Ain were delivered to Airbus’s factory in Bremen, Germany, and fitted on an Etihad Airlines aircraft.

Airbus has also made future commitments to procure composite raw material from Mubadala, upon commencement of production from a proposed raw materials manufacturing facility to be established in Abu Dhabi.

Homaid Al Shemmari, Executive Director of Mubadala ACTDS, said:

“We are pleased to strengthen our relationship with Airbus, which reflects Mubadala’s clear commitment to invest in and support the continued development and growth of the aerospace sector, in the UAE and globally.”

“The cooperation with Strata fosters our long term partnership based on their strong capabilities consistently delivering high quality products to Airbus. We are pleased that the deliveries out of the UAE continue to play an important role in the future,” said Guenter Butschek, Airbus Chief Operating Officer.

Etihad Airways, the national airline of the United Arab Emirates, announced that it has selected CFM International’s advanced LEAP-1A engine to power 26 Airbus A321neo scheduled to begin delivery in 2018. The order is valued at $2.8 billion U.S. at list price, including a long-term services agreement.

To support the new fleet, Etihad has signed a 15-year Rate per Flight

Hour (RPFH) agreement, under the terms of which CFM will guarantee maintenance costs on a dollar per engine flight hour basis.

“Etihad Airways prides itself on operating modern, state-of-the-art and highly efficient aircraft, with the Airbus A320 family at the heart of our narrow-body fleet,” said James Hogan, president and chief executive

officer of Etihad Airways. “Through the introduction of the brand new Airbus A320neo family aircraft, we will benefit from even lower fuel consumption and environmental impact on short-haul and medium-haul flights. Much of these operational improvements will derive from the advanced LEAP-1A engine, which has been meeting all performance targets.”

Through this agreement Mubadala has the opportunity to supply as much as $2.5 billion in advanced composites and machined metals to Boeing commercial programs, including the 787 and 777X.

Boeing and Mubadala have also agreed

to work together to develop pre-preg and carbon fiber manufacturing capabilities in Abu Dhabi. “Boeing is pleased to expand our relationship with Mubadala, a company that is committed to creating globally competitive and strategic aerospace capabilities in the UAE,” said Ray Conner, Boeing Commercial Airplanes president and CEO. “We support our customers by leveraging the world’s talent and resources in ways that

build a more capable, competitive supply chain for our products.”

Homaid Al Shemmari, Executive Director of Mubadala Aerospace, Communications Technology & Defense Services, said: “Today’s agreement further strengthens our relationship with Boeing, and provides an important platform as we continue to develop our role as a supplier to Boeing and develop Strata into a major supplier.

Alenia Aermacchi, a Finmeccanica Company and the AeronauticaMilitare (Italian Air Force) signed an agreement to provide development, testing, certification, industrialization and logistic support of the Praetorian. The Praetorian, a specialized version of the MC-27J, will support missions for the Italian Special Forces, ComandoOperativoForzeSpeciali (COFS).

The Praetorian project will consist

of two phases. During Phase One, AleniaAermacchi will develop and deliver a prototype of the Praetorian to the Italian Air Force in spring 2014, immediately followed by testing in an operational scenario. Phase Two will encompass the industrialization of the Praetorian configuration and related logistic support.

Lt Gen John Hesterman, Commander, US Air Forces Central Command, Southwest Asia, talks exclusively to Nation Shield at the Dubai Airshow. Excerpts:

You have flown during the first night of Operation Desert Storm and were the expeditionary squadron commander for multiple operations. Can you tell us about your operational experience in the Middle East?

I’ve been fortunate to spend a lot of time in the Middle East and be part of some remarkable operations, all of which were made even more significant because I was part of a team consisting of regional allies and Coalition partners that have played an important role in maintaining regional security for many years. It is even more rewarding to be working with air chiefs that I flew side-by-side with so many years ago. Heading the Central Command, South West Asia, you are responsible for developing contingency plans and conducting air operations in a 20-nation area of responsibility covering Central and Southwest Asia. How difficult is it to coordinate activities in such a wide area of operation?

As the commander of US Air Forces Central Command (USAFCENT), which is the air component to US Central Command (USCENTCOM), headed by General Austin, we work very closely with our partners through events like combined training opportunities and regional security exercises. It is through these training opportunities and exercises that we learn valuable lessons from one another in an effort to increase our interoperability with our partners and demonstrate our continued commitment to cooperative defense agreements and

regional security. The important thing to remember

is that these bilateral and multilateral exercises and training events improve the ability of our friends and allies to work together protecting mutual interests, deterring conflict, and ensuring stability in the region. The US Air Force›s MQ-1 Predator and MQ-9 Reaper remotely piloted aircraft recently accumulated two million flight hours on October 22, not only marking a significant milestone, but also demonstrating the evolution of the program. How significant is this feat for the operations of Central Command, Southwest Asia?

We’re immensely proud that these persistent Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) and precision-strike platforms have reached this milestone. But perhaps the bigger story and true achievement has been the unwavering dedication of the men and women who have made this capability available for such a sustained period of time. They have saved lives and made our coalition stronger, safer and more secure.Information from the RPAs are said to feed intelligence that allows someone to make a better decision - in peacetime and war. Can you elaborate?

ISR’s purpose is to inform decision-makers. Remotely piloted aircraft do just that, delivering vital ISR during

both contingency operations, such as Afghanistan, and humanitarian relief operations, such as the 2010 flooding in Pakistan. But the platforms are only one small piece of the puzzle, the collection piece. The information must still be processed and disseminated to decision makers. This requires a robust network of highly skilled individuals in numerous locations working tirelessly to ensure mission success. To what extent do you use RPAs for anti-terrorist operations in the Middle East?

The primary mission set for RPA is intelligence, surveillance and reconnaissance. Only about three per cent of all RPA sorties over Afghanistan involve kinetic events. We often spend days, weeks or longer surveilling areas of interest to help commanders develop a full understanding of the battlespace.

When and if sorties go kinetic, they do so with unprecedented battlespace awareness. Additionally, protecting civilians and minimizing collateral damage remains at the very core of USAFCENT›s mission. The use of all USAFCENT aerial weapons is tightly restricted, meticulously planned, carefully supervised and coordinated, and applied by extremely well-qualified personnel.

The important take-away is that the US Air Force’s contribution to the Intelligence, Surveillance and Reconnaissance enterprise is vital to the national security of the United States and its allies, providing an unrivaled capability, greatly reduced collateral damage, and extremely precise kinetic effects. Can you tell us about your peacetime operations and how important they are to maintain stability in any region?

Everything we do is aimed at maintaining partnerships and promoting stability in this region. As part of the US Government›s commitment to regional security, USCENTCOM and USAFCENT are committed to working cooperatively to improve the operational capability of our partners in the region.

We work with allies to protect mutual interests and ensure stability

Elettronica praises the new world class venue of Dubai Airshow

Business is about relationships, not simplyselling a product

We work with allies to protect mutual interests and ensure stability

F ounded in 1951, Elettronica is one of the European leaders in the production of electronic defense equipment

(EW). The experience in the design and production of EW equipment and systems acquired in over 50 years guarantees reliable, effective solutions able to satisfy the changing needs of modern defense. Enzo Benigni, president and reference company shareholder of Elettronica talked to Nation Shield about Elettronica’s long association with the Dubai Airshow. Excerpts:Elettronica is a regular participant at the Dubai Airshow. What do you think is special about the airshow? Elettronica is participating in the 10th edition of the Dubai Air Show – stand No.1743.

Elettronica has always had close relations with the UAE, especially since the 80s when Mr Filippo Fratalocchi, the founder of Elettronica, set the basis of a strong and enduring cooperation. This heritage enables Elettronica to boast a long-standing record of equipment and systems supplied to the UAE Air Force, Navy and Intelligence Department. I believe that it is more important to maintain a continuous and deep-rooted presence in a country, now and in the future, with a rewarding exchange of know-how, rather than simply to sell a product. This may best answer the question why we are always present at the Dubai Air Show, edition after edition. What are your impressions about this edition of the Airshow as it is different from the previous editions? I think that this new location, conveniently located between Dubai and Abu Dhabi and, unlike the previous one, expressively conceived to host such a big exhibition, will definitely give a plus

to the already very high standards of the Dubai Air Show. Which products will you be highlighting at the show? The Dubai Air Show is an excellent opportunity to present Elettronica’s technological breakthroughs and advanced solutions. Elettronica will run a promotional video on its Self-Protection Suite for Combat Search and Rescue Helicopters, composed by Virgilius and DIRCM systems. What are the new products you have brought to the show?Elettronica’s stand at Dubai will display the following solutions:

Praetorian: The podded self-protection system for the Eurofighter Typhoon. This system, enables the aircraft to evaluate the electromagnetic scenario and then to implement an automatic ECM response to single or multiple threats for air-to-air and air-to-ground missions.

The ELT/568 is a solid-state airborne SELF- and MUTUAL- protection family of ECM systems, designed to provide an effective defensive and attack capability for the last generation of fighter aircraft and helicopters.

Virgilius, which is an advanced, multiplatform, fully integrated, flexible Electronic Warfare architecture which exploits advanced signal processing techniques and key enabling technologies to deliver a superior range of performance.

ELT/572 DIRCM (Directional Infrared

Countermeasures): Elettronica’s response to MANPADS (Man Portable Air Defense Systems) missiles, which remain one of the major threats to airborne platforms, easily encountered in asymmetric conflicts and in terrorist actions. How far has the show helped you in meeting your peers and competitors? Dubai Air Show is an excellent location to meet customers, peers and competitors. It gathers defense industry stakeholders from anywhere in the world and allows them to interact in a world-class environment, and that makes this exhibition unique and a must for any business that wants to be visible. Our presence at the Dubai Air Show was of crucial importance for the happy conclusion of many deals here in the Region. How does the global defense industry view the Middle East as a key market? The GCC plays a pivotal role in the defense industry. Countries from this region pay a lot of attention to their defense needs and traditionally look for the best and most advanced solutions that our industry can provide. In this new era where Western Countries are progressively reviewing their defense budget, this is particularly important because our industry need to be continuously challenged by a more ambitious demand. Only this way we can raise the technological development bar.

The numbers are impressive. The most recent orders for the Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) brought the total number

of aircraft sold to 998. Hawk has been used to train more than 20,000 pilots, for 18 different air forces and has clocked up more than 3.5 million flying hours. But the numbers don’t tell the full story.

The latest versions of Hawk are, in effect, a completely new aircraft when compared to earlier versions.

Today’s Hawk provides advanced jet training brilliantly. Pilots are trained to fight and because Hawk uses the same type of digital glass cockpit as you would find on the latest combat aircraft, pilots are much better prepared.

With the Hawk Advanced Jet Trainer (AJT) you get multi-function displays, a head-up display and hands-on-throttle-and-stick. It’s a million miles away from the cockpit you would have found in older versions of Hawk.

However, along with all the technology, the heritage plays an important role too.

Because Hawk has been developed based on customer experiences and feedback; and emerging customer requirements, the aircraft is a constant evolution.

So while it’s got a wonderful past, the latest Hawk has a great future too. Current market dynamics reveal a growing trend throughout the world for training both in terms of the volume of training required as well as a shift in the skill requirements for operation of the latest generation of front-line aircraft.

Today the focus is on greater mission management skills and the ability to assess the mass of information faced by a modern pilot as the shift moves towards single-seat aircraft for all mission roles.

This shift has created a ‹training gap› even for air forces who already have an existing training solution. In some cases this has seen an increased training load placed on operational conversion units to provide elements of advanced jet training.

So that’s where the Hawk AJT really shines. Its embedded simulation and emulation technologies are a class apart. For a trainee fighter pilot they make a real difference because it allows you to turn the sky into a virtual, front-line war zone.

Recent orders for the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Sultanate of Oman mean that there is a current order book of 30 new Hawks at the same standard as the UK’s Hawk. In addition, the recently announced Royal Australian Air Force›s Hawk upgrade will bring those aircraft up to a similar standard.

That group of 91 aircraft will provide a pool of users who can share the benefit of upgrades and supply chain management for some time to come.

This increasing number of new build standard aircraft means that there is now also an opportunity for changing the way we the fleet is supported. There’s a move towards long-term arrangement with suppliers and this could lead to more competitive offerings to customers.

Hellenic Air Force chief’s high praise for UAE humanitarian work

Raytheon receives 1,000th AMRAAM rocket motor delivery

Lt General Evangelos Tournas, Chief of Hellenic Air Force, has heaped praise on the UAE Air Force’s humanitarian efforts worldwide and reaffirmed the excellent cooperation between the defence forces of the two nations. He is also ultra-impressed with the Dubai Airshow.

“The cooperation between our countries is excellent, as a result of our traditionally warm relationships. I am confident that our bilateral military cooperation can be expanded beyond the individual training area, including flight training or perhaps combat training exercises.

“For many decades, training in

HAF is one of the main pylons for our air force capability development. Throughout the years, multilateral and extensive training programs have been established between HAF and foreign armed forces.

“Through bilateral agreements, we are capable to provide training to foreign cadets who qualify for our Air Force Academy or other training programs. We have already established such agreements with countries from the MENA region and their officers have participated in courses such as the Water Survival Course. In the very near future, officers from UAE will attend our Accident

Prevention Course.” Lt General Tournas applauded the

UAE Air Force concerning its wide-ranging humanitarian efforts.

“The assistance which UAE provides worldwide wherever and whenever required in almost every humanitarian mission is of great importance. Special mention should be given to the continuous assistance provided to Palestinian people, to Libya, Afghanistan, Pakistan and Yemen.”

And Dubai Airshow?“The international exhibition in Dubai

has become a globally renowned show with privileged exhibitors from various industrial defence segments.”

Airbus showcases two lavish corporate jets

Airbus is highlighting two corporate jets, an ACJ318 and an ACJ319, at this year’s Dubai Airshow, showcasing

the comfort, space and freedom of movement with which they lead the world.

It was for the regional customers that Airbus produced its first corporate jet in the mid-1980s. Today, the Middle East is the largest market for VVIP widebodies. It is now home to many more Airbus corporate jets, including Airbus ACJ318s, ACJ319s, ACJ320s, ACJ330s and ACJ340s.

Constellation Aviation Services operates the Airbus ACJ318, which features lounge areas at the front, plus a private office and a bedroom with ensuite bathroom at the rear.

Emirates Executive began offering VVIP charters earlier in 2013 with the Airbus ACJ319. It is the first business jet with private suites, and it also features lounge areas including a bathroom with shower.

“Airbus corporate jets have the widest and tallest cabin among all business jets. The jets do not need more ramp space

that allows their customers to take more of their lifestyle with them when they travel,” said John Leahy, chief operating officer of customers at Airbus.

“Whether you want to work, rest, or play, you can do more of it in an Airbus ACJ.”

Originating from the world’s most modern aircraft family, Airbus corporate jets have a very strong presence in the Middle East, where they are widespread in both the ACJ320 family size and the larger, “non-stop to the world”, VVIP

widebody category.Furthermore, Airbus offers a gala

cabin concept for widebodies such as the ACJ330/ACJ340, which combines a VIP section with airliner-style seating to simplify and shorten outfitting.

One of the most popular features of Airbus corporate jets is their ability to carry larger groups, such as extended families and government delegations, while delivering more of the comfort and style to which top-end travellers aspire.

Nation Shield talks to Mikhail Zavaliy, advisor to the director general and head of Rosoboronexport’s delegation at the Dubai Airshow 2013, about how the exhibition will help it strengthen ties with regional partners, reinvigorate other opportunities associated with the changing political processes in the region, and expand the number of potential customers of Russian combat aerospace equipment.

Russia has been a permanent exhibitor at the Dubai Air Show since 1993 while this year marks the 20th anniversary

of Rosoboronexport’s participation in the international aviation gala. Rosoboronexport, part of the Russian Technologies State Corporation, is the sole Russian state intermediary agency responsible for import and export of the full range of defense and dual-use end products, technologies and services.

At this year’s air show the company is showcasing a wide range of state-of-the-art equipment and aircraft from the Russian defense industry with major focus on customers in the Middle East, according to Zavaliy.

“We are ready to continue constructive and mutually beneficial dialogue with our Arab partners. In turn, the countries in the region are keeping an eye on the development of the Russian space and

combat aircraft industries and, thus, willingly buying Russian weapons,” he says.

The line-up includes the Gen 4++ Sukhoi Su-35, a multipurpose super agile fighter, considered by many as the most advanced fighter aircraft in the world capable of gaining air superiority and effectively engaging ground and surface targets day or night and in any weather.

And the modern Yakovlev Yak-130, a two-seat combat trainer, has also aroused great interest as many countries in the region have been implementing jet trainer fleet renewal programs. It is

designed for efficient, economical and safe instruction and flight training, and operational use against ground and air targets. The latest versions of the MiG-29 fighters, particularly the MiG-29M/M2, MiG-29SMT, MiG-29UB and MiG-35, continue to receive extensive attention in the region as does the family of Russian Mil and Kamov helicopters and air defense equipment.

Due to the sometimes complicated political and economic situation in parts of the Middle East, many regional countries, particularly those within the Gulf Co-operation Council (GCC), are concerned about re-equipping their armies and, primarily, upgrading the fleets of their combat aircraft and air defense systems. Therefore, Rosoboronexport has been successfully maintaining business relations with many countries in the Arab world, including the GCC countries, for a long time.

Rosoboronexport considers the participation in the Dubai Air Show 2013 an important part of their marketing strategy.

“We have held a series of important meetings and negotiations. We’re actively working to expand cooperation with our current partners and re-establish cooperative ties by promoting competitive modern military equipment here. As for contracts, I’m sure some will be concluded soon,” says Zavaliy.

Dimo Corp, an affiliated company of Bin Hilal Enterprises (BHE), and ASB Avionics announced that they

have been working together on providing a full cockpit avionics upgrade for all C-130 and L-100 aircrafts worldwide.

This avionics upgrade program can take an aging aircraft into the 21st century by updating and replacing existing antiquated avionics systems with modern state-of-the-art avionics.

The upgrade program envisages installation of systems such as dual Primus EPIC Control Display Systems. Furthermore, it includes Automatic Flight Control (CDS / R - AFCS), triple Laseref VI IRS, dual Primus-II Radio Systems,

Primus 880 Radar system, dual AZ-950 Air Data System, ACS Digital Audio system, dual FMZ-2000 integrated Flight Management System (FMS), GH-3000 ESIS, dual ALT-4000 Radio Altimeters, TCAS-II, and Mark VII Enhanced GPWS.

ASB Avionics also offers many other options such as CDR/FDR, AFIS, Enhanced Vision System (EVS), and SATCOM systems.

In addition to the installation of new systems, the upgrade program replaces existing avionics mounting provisions with modular avionics shelves.

With this modular approach to avionics installations, DIMO Corp and ASB Avionics are able to engineer, fabricate, and test many of the systems, which

are to be installed, before an aircraft is even input for modification. Therefore, this approach allows for a much faster turnaround time for the modification of an aircraft, which is typically less than 90 days.

Bin Hilal Enterprises (BHE) and its affiliated companies, including DIMO Corp, have been involved in providing spare parts, component support and technical services in the region, especially within all of the GCC countries, for over 19 years.

Eurocopter has recently provided the initial EC130 T2 to a customer in Kazakhstan, introducing this enhanced

version of its single-engine EC130 helicopter to the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS) and further expanding the company’s presence in a region where demand for rotorcraft is rapidly growing.

The milestone EC130 T2 is configured for passenger transport, and was delivered this month from Eurocopter’s headquarters in Marignane, France.

“We are very proud to have provided this initial EC130 T2 to Kazakhstan, demonstrating the dynamics of the CIS market,” commented Laurence Rigolini, CEO of the Eurocopter Vostok subsidiary. “It is perfect for passenger transportation, sightseeing and VIP duties that are developing in the CIS, as well as the region’s medical and surveillance missions.”

The multifunctional EC130 T2 has a spacious cabin for one pilot and up to seven passengers. In addition to

its improved performance, a number of enhancements enable easier maintenance and longer inspection intervals.

More than 70 per cent of the EC130 T2’s airframe structure has been modified in comparison to the existing EC130 B4. New and updated features include the use of a more powerful Arriel 2D turboshaft engine and upgraded main gearbox; the incorporation of an active

vibration control system; improved air ventilation, distribution and demisting systems; a cabin interior structure redesign with a full flat floor; a cockpit update for enhanced man-machine interface; new energy-absorbing seats that improve weight and balance for passenger loading; integration of a crashworthy fuel tank; and increased maintenance accessibility for electrical and air conditioning systems.

This year’s Dubai Air Show marks the last time EADS will exhibit at any major aerospace show before it officially changes its

name to the Airbus Group on January 1, 2014.

Dr. Thomas Enders, CEO of EADS, said: “This will be the final major aerospace trade show prior to EADS being re-branded as the Airbus Group. The reasons behind the rebranding are that the group has decided to place a stronger focus on the commercial airline side of our business. At the same time, we are working on strengthening our defence business in order to make it more successful and cost-competitive outside Europe.”

According to Marwan Lahoud, chief of strategy and marketing officer at EADS,

the Middle East brings 10 per cent of the group’s revenue annually.

“If we look at our order book, these figures are even higher – 17 per cent of our orders come from this region. This proves the strategic importance this region has for our business,” he said at Dubai Airshow.

“However, it is the result of our business approach here since we have come to build strong and lasting partnerships and not just to sell our products. I am pleased that our partners recognise that. This year’s Dubai Air Show has already brought us the order of an additional 50 A380 aircraft by Emirates Airlines,” he said.

Emirates has ordered 50 additional A380s valued at US$23 billion (Dh 84.4 billion), which was announced on the

opening day of the show. The order will boost Emirates total A380 fleet to 140.

The order cements the status of Emirates as the single largest operator of the long-haul airliner, about which H.H. Sheikh Ahmed bin Saeed Al-Maktoum, Chairman and Chief Executive of Emirates Airline and Group, said: Emirates has understood from the start the A380s advantages in terms of efficiency, economics and passenger comfort.”

Etihad has also announced more Airbus orders, including 36 A320 Neo planes, for a total list price of US$ 26.9 billion (Dh 98.7 billion).

“I’m pleased to say that our market share in China is around 50 per cent. Also, the market in Japan is no longer closed for us,” added Enders.

By Sakha PramodCAE’s Simulation and related training systems is what comes to mind when you mention CAE but the company has strong presence in many other areas including ground combat warfare, UAV control, marine environments and increasingly, medical matters. Cameron McKenzie the Managing Director has played a key role in making the company a dominant player in the Middle East market. As the company’s main strength is aviation, it has maintained its leading position in training pilots, co-pilots and in imparting skills in other related fields.

According to McKenzie there is great potential in the Middle East for simulation and training systems. “CAE firmly believes that the increased and more efficient use of simulation is part of the solution to accelerating learning and increasing competency without sacrificing readiness or capability. Everyone knows the simulation industry offers a compelling value proposition as far as being cost-effective, but the real challenges here in the Middle East are helping defence forces quickly and effectively build the competencies required to safely operate and then maximize the capability of the advanced weapon systems being procured,” he said in an exclusive interview with the Nation Shield.

He feels simulation is the ideal tool for helping to ensure mission effectiveness – safely and cost-effectively – by allowing the development, preparation and rehearsal of missions involving multiple aircraft and forces to be performed and ultimately perfected before getting into the actual aircraft.

From his years of experience in simulation and training in aviation, McKenzie has a few tips to offer to the defense forces in the Middle East. Any country can ignore them only at its own peril. “One of our key messages to Middle East governments and defense forces, and really for all global militaries, is to take a more integrated and “holistic” view of training. We like to call this training systems integration. Defence

forces around the world must adapt to budgetary constraints, operational demands, new threats, complex weapon systems, evolving operational doctrines, and shifting priorities,” he says.

“All of these issues can impact training capabilities and ultimately, the readiness of those in uniform.

In this context, McKenzie said CAE is urging defense forces, including here in the Middle East, to consider a platform-independent training systems integrator with the requisite experience, skills, and capability to design, develop and deliver turnkey training programs.

McKenzie spoke at length about CAE’s latest activities related to military flight simulation and training. “CAE has developed a well-earned reputation as a leading provider of flight simulation for both the civil and defence markets. For defence forces, we have a range of experience providing training systems for helicopters, transports, tankers, maritime patrol aircraft, lead-in fighter trainers, and combat aircraft.

“Some platforms where we have a wealth of experience of particular interest to Middle East defence customers include transport aircraft such as the C-130J and C295; tankers such as the A330 multi-role tanker transport; helicopters such as the NH90, CH-47 Chinook and the entire family of H-60 platforms, including the MH-60R Seahawk and UH-60M Black Hawk; and

lead-in fighters such as the M-346 and Hawk. Because of our experience on platforms such as these, which often includes developing the initial training systems, we can offer customers proven solutions with lower risk.”

Already well established in the Middle East, the CAE is here to stay for the long term and to that end, it collaborates on industrial as well as operational levels. “For CAE, our focus and commitment to the Middle East and the GCC is the same as it is always been. One thing people might not realize about CAE is just how truly global the company is – we are really the only “pure play” simulation and training company with a global footprint, so we’ve always had a presence in many key regions, including the Middle East.
