President’s Message
January 2018
2018 will be a better chapter for you if you...Think positively. Let go of past mistakes. Make new friends. Stay away from toxic people. Use your talents. Don't hold back. Do good deeds. Speak up for your-self, and know your worth.
It is that time of year again, reporting. Please send in your contribu-tions of time, money and in-kind donations as soon as possible so we can include them in our reports. You can email the appropriate CSP chair or email Janelle or Kathleen.
Where is the table??? I have been asked may times about the table. The wooden table that presided in the parlor was donated to the original clubhouse, located on Plant Avenue. The gentleman who purchased the building, has lovingly restored the building for his business. It is beautiful and it seemed appropriate to donate the table to what was the original Tampa Woman's Club. The table was old and in disrepair and he promised to restore it. He also promised, once the building is finished, to invite us for a visit.
Fashionollia! How can you help?
1. Ask someone you do business with if they would like to be a sponsor or purchase ad space in the program
2. Sell opportunity tickets for the beach house vacation $20 per ticket
3. Invite friends and family to attend $65 per ticket or $125 patron ticket.
4. Donate items for the silent auction
For questions please contact Sylvia Reeves; all letters and forms are available through Janelle. Continued on page 5

A great big thanks to all who contributed to the school supply drive, worked Boutique Shopping on Bayshore, or donated the wonderful baked goods/pickles.
Also, I would like to thank club member Phyllis Cherry for agreeing to speak at the November meeting and reading a short excerpt from her book.

Happy new year to my sisters, their families, and their friends. May 2018 be filled with happiness, love, and prosperity.
It was in 1946 that a fundraising charity project called Fashionollia was started. Fashionollia has since become a well established social and charitable function, raising over $300,000 for various charities throughout the years. Fashion, fun, and friendship all come together for a great cause. Fashionollia 69 is fast approaching. Our success for this premier event depends on members and friends. the committee is asking for everyone to please participate. Reservations and seating arrangements are being made by Evelyn Yates. Please contact Janelle to purchase tickets and let her know who you wish to sit with. Invitations will be mailed out as soon as possible. There are opportunity tickets available a two bedroom two bath condo on the beach. Please get your tick-ets from Janelle and start selling. The winner does not need to be present to win. We also want to remind you to help Joyce and Dee fill the silent auction baskets. The ladies are now accepting things for the baskets and they be brought to the clubhouse office. January 20,2017 is the date for the Children's Gasparilla Parade. Cathy Geary, Linda Watts, and a team of helpers will be parking cars again this year. Many thanks to Cathy, Linda and her team. We greatly appre-ciate all their hard work. Our clubhouse has been rented for Gasparilla Pirate Fest on 1/27.
I thought you ladies might want to know more about the charities that the International Group is funding
this term. You all have heard about UNICEF over the years, but they launched a new partnership with
GFWC to end Human Trafficking.
GFWC has supported UNICEF’S efforts to ensure access to clean water , proper sanitation facilities, health
services , education and protection for the world’s most vulnerable children. In June 2015, GFWC and the
U.S. Fund for UNICEF launched a new partnership dedicated to supporting and participating in the U.S.
Funds for UNICEF’S End Trafficking project. Funds from Fashionollia will be earmarked for this important
partner project, Ending Human trafficking, was an important endeavor which previously suported Bridging
Freedom. However, Bridging Freedom has been slow to get off the ground. UNICEF, a national project will
have a much better shot at accomplishing the goal to stop this terrible trafficking.
We also are participating in the hands on project of helping Puerto Rico recover from Hurricane Maria.
Everyone received an email from Cathy Geary about the kind of items they need. Our committee, along with
any of you that would like to help can participate in this effort.
Our next meeting will be held on Monday January 15, 2018 at 2pm at the Clubhouse.

“Update from Kathleen”
Orlo J. Spafford, the president of the Tampa National Bank, built the Orlo in 1882 to share with his son and his family. In 1922 the Orlo was sold to the Tampa Woman’s Club where the addition of a ballroom was made to host formal parties and extravagant danc-es. The ballroom is where I photographed the table. Since Gaspar Properties purchased the home, they have restored it and named it

For the next 4 months we will offer cleaning hints using safe, environmentally friendly, cleaning products for use around your home. You will not have to worry if your kids or grandchildren find them. These are common cooking items that you use everyday.
This month we will learn about cleaning with vinegar.
In the kitchen:
Coffeemaker- Run your machine with equal parts white vinegar and water. Halfway through the cycle, turn the machine off and let it set for an hour; then resume and rinse with one round of water
Dishwasher: Make your glasses glisten by pouring a cup of vinegar in the bottom of your dishwasher before you run the cycle.
In the bathroom:
After you have cleaned the tiles in your shower spray the tiles with vinegar after each shower and it will help keep mildew and hard water spots from growing.
If your shower head is grungy, fill a plastic bag with vinegar and tie the bag around the showerhead. Let it set overnight. Rinse the showerhead in the morning.
We will be walking the Bayshore for trash pickup in February (probably the 12th). If you are able. please come walk with us or help in the kitchen while we walk. This is a great way to get to know more about your fellow members. Sharing a trash bag can be fun?

Ladies of the Evening - Christine Grant and Jennifer Volpe
Happy New Year! We hope that your holidays were filled with joy. Our evening
group celebrated our holiday party on December 7th and the gathering was a tre-
mendous success. We would like to thank Pat Hart for providing the use of her
common room. It was a beautiful setting with a delicious dinner and great gift
exchange.
Our next meeting is Thursday, January 4, 2018. The food theme is “Bring some-
thing new to celebrate our New Year.” Or if you prefer, bring in an oldie but a
goody dish for all of us to enjoy. We will be discussing our Game Night at the
January meeting. Game night is scheduled for Thursday, February 15, 2018 from
6:30-9:00pm. The game night theme is “I Love the 80’s,” with bingo being the
featured game.
January 20, 2017 is the scheduled day for parking for Gaspirilla. Please contact
Cat Geary if you are interested in helping. Cat always does a fantastic job with
this, and it would be so nice to offer her extra help.
Fashionollia needs our evening group’s support! We have committed to assist in
selling advertisements and sponsorships for our program. If you need
sponsorship letters, please contact Janelle in the office. Also, we agreed to help
with the baskets for our silent auction. Please consider making a themed basket
or providing items for a basket. You may wish to ask for basket donations as well.
We will discuss this again at our January meeting. If you have any questions or
ideas, please share them. One last thing to consider as we ring in the New Year:
“Your success and happiness lies in you. Resolve to keep happy and your joy
and you shall form an invincible host against difficulties.” Helen Keller
Happy New Year! Jen and Christine

Some of our members attended various locations
Bay Pines in St. Petersburg, Bushnell and American Legion in Tampa
It was a very emotional time reading the names of the soldiers who gave their life of all of us.
I can say I am proud to be an American!!!
Here are some pictures of the group from the
American Legion Site.
The Tampa Woman's Club was well represented.
I am proud of that too!!

Domestic Violence ~ Linda Reece
Dear Members,
This article was recently published in the Tampa Bay Times. It truly brings home the message how insidious domestic violence can be. Please share with your family and friends.
Linda Reece
“Tell Me About It: Sister’s partner is a textbook abuser
By Carolyn Hax, Washington Post Sister’s partner is a textbook abuser
Q: My sister stays home with her two small children (2 and 1) while her partner works. Recently, during a
fight, he took all of their money and left. He has since returned and they have patched things up for now.
But they fight frequently and she is on edge about what he will do next.
Is this something that would be considered domestic abuse? Is there a reputable organization or helpline
that she could talk to about how to protect herself/make a contingency plan?
Anonymous
A: Yes, it’s abuse — textbook. Here’s why:
Control of the money is control of the other person. His working while she stays home with the kids gives
him significant leverage already. When he absconded with the family money in anger, this guy made it
clear he will cross that line if that’s what it takes to "win" an argument with your sister.
Uncontrolled temper is control of the other person. You say it perfectly yourself: "[S]he is on edge about
what he will do next." Emotional volatility is a form of threat, and that threat has your sister watching her
every move. Using threats to control others is abuse.
His disregard for others’ well-being is control of other people. Whether it’s an emotional or financial or
some other line, and whether he crosses it with his partner and kids or publicly with others -- a neighbor,
wait staff, the kids’ teachers, his exes — the fact of his crossing it declares that he will hurt anyone he de-
cides is hurting him. And that sends your sister the chilling message that he’ll hurt her, too.
So, yes. Urge a hotline, exit plan, emergency cash. The National Domestic Violence Hotline can help her find
help locally, 1-800-799-SAFE. Among other things, they can make sure she understands that getting out of
this risky situation is both necessary and risky unto itself, since leaving activates an abuser’s need to win.”
