Increasin-e human population, urbanization and incomes, coupled with changing consumer preferences are creating higherdemand for industry and their products. Several problems facing this industry including feed price, breed and stock, prici ofmeat and live goat, ranchers' skill and management and capital for rearing small ruminant. An attempt has been made toexplore the issues and challenges small ruminant ranchers and industry in Peninsular Malaysia and privailing managementpractices at household level. A total of 600 ranchers in ten (10) states were selected as respondents in this study. The resultsindicated that, the major issues and challenges for the ranchers in small ruminant industry were feed (71.3% respondents),disease (52.2% respondents) and capital (48.3 respondents). There is a need to develop small ruminant farming and find out thebetter solution for the major issues. ln addition, the involvement of the youths and women in the industry can be also one of theimproving factors. Hence, government and private sector should pay great attention for the development of small ruminantindustry that can bring an interest to the ranchers and boost up farmers livelihood in Malaysia.

Agricultural sector including rice production still plays an important role in the Bali economy despite of its worldwide knownfor its tourist destination. However rice production in Bali is susceptible to loss caused by flood, drought and pest and disease,as well as from the climate change. Adaptation to climate change is required to minimize the risk along with the plans andstrategies for food security and sustainable development. The govemment of Indonesia (GoI) has legal basis on the FarmerProtection and Empowerynent Act (Law N9. 1912013) to the implementation of agriculture insurance program to minimize therisk in production failure. The GoI plans to implement the insurance scheme in the beginning of 2015. Considering theimportance of crop insurance to agriculture, this study attempts to explore the potency of such insurance to identiffopporhrnities and challenges in agriculture insurance implementation in Bali. A sunrey was conducted on 100 farmers from twofarmers' organizations (subak) to identifu the awareness and perception of farmers towards the insurance and adaptation toclimate change. The study empirically presents awareness and perception of farmers towards the insurance and adaptation tovulnerability of climate change. The study concludes with various suggestions for increasing the awareness of farmers forensuring better penetation ofagriculture insurance in Bali.

Background Vasavas are a tribe from Gujarat state in India who have rich tradition of indigenous medicine and havetraditionally practiced sustainable traditional subsistence farming. However, they are now economically and educationallydeprived due to limited cash income sources. A possible sustainable way for their economic development is by creatingaltemative income sources in agriculture by using their understanding of medicinal plants. From an ethnobotanical studyundertaken with this tribe, an informal self-help group, was established that promoted the cultivation of medicinal plants (MP)for generating additional cash income for them.Research Objective: 1. Elucidating factors influencing adoption of this technology 2. Characterize growing environment ofMP. In the first phase, we tried to find the intra-member differences that affect the intensity of adoption of MP cultivationtechnology as a source ofgenerating additional income.Methodology: Semi-structured questionnaire survey was conducted for all the members of the group and plants'ecophysiological data was collected in their agricultural field and/or home garden during February-March 2015, atDediapada-Results and discussion: One of the hlpothesis is that access to stable income in the family would affect the level of adoptionof this technology. Previous knowledge of medicinal plant doesn't seem to affect their decision to cultivate more plants. However the annual profit fiom selling of cultivated of MP was higher for farmers with stable income. Characterizing suchfactors can lead us to find to better solutions for intensifzing level of adoption of cultivation of medicinal plants for generatinghigher income.
