Wastewater Applications

A Geyser pump or mixer for each function…the low cost and low energy solution. Pumping return activated sludge (RAS) is the most common application for Geyser Pulse Pumps in wastewater treatment. Geyser pioneered this simple-to-use and easy-to-install Pulse type airlift pump more than 14 years ago. Using high-efficiency patented pump and mixer technology, Geyser integrates its Pulse engine into a unique family of pump and mixer products for each process step in wastewater treatment. Geyser Pulse products offer the advantage of designing or refurbishing sections of a complete process treatment system by substituting or replacing rotating mechanical equipment with easy and safe to operate and maintain pumping and mixing devices. With no spare parts requirements and often no supplemental air blowers Geyser Pulse products are the cost-effective choice. Geyser Pulse products deliver precise pumping, solids handling and dissolution of air into the wastewater of small to medium size treatment plants. Because Geyser pumps and mixers are designed to operate with low pressure air from blowers, they provide substantial resource savings – 40% to 60% less electricity consumption.

Easy to install. Years of proven performance. Less electricity consumption as compared to

submersible, centrifugal or conventional Airlift type pumps and propeller type mixers.

No maintenance. No cleaning. No clogging. Easy to control pumping rate. Easy to monitor pumping rate.

Pulse Technology, an engine you can count on The Geyser Pulse Pumps are designed for low lift pumping applications at wastewater treatment plants ranging from small packaged type systems to medium size treatment facilities with capacities up to 10 MGD (37,854 M3/D).

The Pulse engine technology is the most important advancement in Airlift Pump technology since 1797 the time it is thought to have been invented. Geyser pump products have been tested, sized and calibrated over a wide range of flows and submergences. The pump cylinder volume and Pulse engine designs have been optimized to release continuously injected air flow and the accumulated air simultaneously into the discharge pipe thus creating a powerful suction to lift sludge and solids from a wide area below. As the released air volume is large compared to the discharge pipe size, it forms a slug of air that typically occupies the whole length of the riser thus ejecting the liquid and solids instantly by the air piston action (Pulse). The cycle is repeated; consequently liquid and solids continue to be transported with each intermittent Pulse.

In similar air flow and lift conditions a Geyser Pulse Pump delivers more than three times the liquid volume of a conventional Airlift Pump.

Select the right Geyser Pulse Pumps for your application. The GIP is the most efficient pump on the market especially when the length of the suction pipe is long as liquid in the suction pipe below the riser flow by inertia after each Pulse cycle. As inertia flow volume is between 7 to 10 times the ejected liquid, the energy required for pumping becomes low because the power consumed is only to eject the volume of liquid that was suctioned into the discharge riser. Using inertia flow is a cost effective way of pumping liquid; it also can be used to ensure uniform mixing inside a tank or for creating artificial waves in open lagoons.

The intermittent slug flow discharge from the GAP and GIP forms boundary layer inside very long discharge pipes therefore it is recommended that RAS and WAS pumping lines be open to atmosphere.
