Everyone on staff needs to be able to recognize a vaccine shipping container

Notify Vaccine Coordinator and/or back up that the vaccine shipment has arrived

Open containers as soon as possible upon arrival

Check temperature of contents If package has cold indicator make certain it is in

range

In the event that vaccines are exposed to improper storage conditions, TAKE IMMEDIATE ACTION: Restore proper storage condition and/or take vaccine to

backup storage unitDocument exactly what happened: note temp of storage

unit, length of time vaccine was out of proper storage conditions

Contact the manufacturer, health department, and/or VFCFollow health department or manufacturer’s instructionsRecord the details of the eventMark the vaccines “Do Not Use”Where applicable mark the exposed vials with updated
