Come up with an offer that would appeal to someone looking to buy cleaning services

Whatever your offer is, create a sense of urgency so your prospects are enticed to act immediately. For example, “available until the end of March” or “only the first twenty people to call will get 10% off.” The biggest marketing mistake cleaning and janitorial companies make is having weak offers. You can’t expect people to call or request a quote if they a) aren’t familiar with you or b) they don’t have a pressing immediate rea-son to do so.

If you’re trying to attract homeowners:

- $100 for 2 hours of cleaning- $300 Spring Clean Special: get carpet cleaning for 2 rooms and the 3rd is FREE!- Luxury Experience for Your Wife: 2 maids, 1 spa visit for $450- Guide to finding and hiring a housekeeper- Free Febreeze bottle with the purchase of any service

If you’re trying to attract business owners / property managers:

- Guide to finding a reliable janitorial service- Learn how to reduce cleaning costs by 20% with a free assessement- Free brochure- Video demonstration

Your offer should never be free. Make sure the prospect has to do something to get it.

For example, the prospect must provide you with his/her contact information, call you, book an appointment, or buy a lower-priced service in order to receive the offer.

Promoting your offerPresent your offer on a 1-page website called a “landing page.” Don’t clutter this page with unnecessary information. Show tangible images (e.g., sparking clean windows, a carpet-cleaning machine, a picture of you and your team, a picture of your staff with your logo Photoshopped onto their shirts). If you’re offering a guide, include a 3D im-age so that the guide looks like a tangible report.

Google advertisingThis is probably the easiest and fastest way to get more customers. Why? Because your ad only shows up when people are searching for cleaning services! Make sure you hire an experienced Google advertising company (like flamedesign.ca). This is be-cause a lot of money can get wasted without proper keyword research and best prac-tices. For example, a lot of marketers aren’t aware that putting a privacy policy in the bottom of your promotion will lower the cost of advertising. Unlike “search engine opti-mization” Google advertising guarantees you 1st-place position on search results. Ad-vertising is also far less time-consuming for you because it can be 100% outsourced.

- Make sure your marketing company uses a call-tracking program like CallRail. This allows you to know whether your advertising is actually generating sales.

Postal mailMailings are effective but quite expensive. You can get cheap printing done in Korea, but you’ll still end up paying 40-70 cents for postage alone. You can buy a targeted mailing list for your area (or target market) from Info Group or Hoovers.

Craigslist and Kijiji These are excellent places to promote your cleaning services because they’re 100% free and allow you to embed photos and sometimes videos!

Newspapers and magazines are generally a bad ideaPrint media is generally just too expensive. A single ad might cost you $400, which would get you 100-200 visitors from Google advertising! Print media works best if you have a specific market you sell cleaning services to; for example, restaurants in Al-berta. In this situation, you could buy ad space in a magazine or newspaper that only restaurant managers read.

Cold-callingThis is especially effective if you’re marketing to other businesses or property man-agers. However, it’s also very time-consuming and not very pleasant. You could out-source the cold-calling, but Google advertising is much cheaper.

You don’t necessarily need a website

Generating leads is best done with specific offers. And these can be promoted through simple 1-page websites called “landing pages.” The idea with these is to focus 100% of your prospect’s attention on taking action (calling you, booking and appointment, etc.)

But if you have the budget and patience for it, a properly built website can generate very cheap sales leads as well. Your website should be built from the ground-up to rank for keywords like “cleaning company” “maid service” and “janitorial services.” It will likely take a few months before you see a return on your investment.

Having specific offers is a proven method
