These are introduction and enrolment sessions for all our courses. Sessions take place every week on Monday. We will assess your current skills and help you choose the right Get that Job course to help you reach your goal.

Remix4Work

This option is for job seekers aged 16-24. Working closely with local employers, the course will focus on fi nding jobs and Apprenticeships and unadvertised vacancies. You will learn how to get your application shortlisted and prepare for interview. The course will help you identify any barriers to employment and ways to overcome them. Work experience will be arranged, if appropriate.

Get Ready for an Apprenticeship

This course is ideal for young people aged 16-24 who have all the ambition and passion demanded

of an Apprenticeship, but who need an opportunity to demonstrate to employers that they have

the commitment to work and study to the level required. The course combines study at college

with work experience in preparation for your chosen Apprenticeship.

The course will include:• up to three days a week in the workplace• an introduction to employee rights and responsibilities• sessions on attitudes and behaviour necessary to be a successful employee• English classes• Maths classes• dedicated support to help you fi nd an Apprenticeship• access to the Reading Recruit, the new college Apprenticeship matching service.

Confi dent Interviews

This option will improve your interview performance by building your confidence and self-esteem. The focus is how to present yourself very positively on paper and at interview. The course includes opportunities to develop job seeking skills through a variety of techniques including mock interviews.

You will have access to the new hair and beauty salons at the college and may choose to participate in a ‘make-over’ session where qualified hair and beauty teachers can help you with personal presentation at your interviews.

Working in Business Administration

The course will introduce you to the essential skills employers look for when fi lling administration

vacancies. You will learn how to complete application forms and produce a CV, as well as

improve your interview techniques. The course will also include the opportunity to attain a

Reading College Certifi cate in IT Skills.

This course will prepare you when applying for jobs within the construction industry. You will learn how to complete application forms and produce a CV, as well as improve your interview techniques. The course will include the opportunity to take the Construction Skills Health and Safety test.

Working in the Health Sector

This Level 2 Certificate can provide you with a route into work in the health service.

The qualification covers communicating effectively, maintaining quality standards, and

observing health, safety and security procedures.

Job roles in the health service include healthcare assistant, support worker, community care assistant, hospital administrator and hospital porter. This certificate is assessed by completing

assignments or presenting a portfolio of evidence.

Hospitality is one of the largest employment sectors in the UK with a wide range of jobs in local restaurants, bars and hotels. You will have the opportunity to gain the Level 2 Chartered Institute of Environmental Health Certificate in Food Safety. This course will provide you with the job seeking support needed to gain employment in this area.

to fill a retail vacancy. You will learn how to complete application forms and produce a CV, as well as how to improve your interview techniques.

The course will include the opportunity to take a World Skills Customer Service qualification.

This course will help you to apply for jobs within a warehouse setting. It includes help with your job application, CV and interview skills. The duties carried out by warehouse staff can include receiving and storing goods, managing stock and processing orders.

put together an individual plan. These courses are available at different levels ,from complete

beginner to more advanced levels, and focus on developing the language and literacy skills that

are necessary for job seeking. There will also be an opportunity to gain a nationally recognised

qualification. You will work on written applications and how to present yourself well at interviews.

You will be able to take this programme alongside other Get that Job courses.

Maths for Work

This option is for people who are finding that their search for employment is held back by their Maths skills. Introduction to Hairdressing

This Level 1 course has a strong emphasis on developing employability skills and will introduce you to the world of hairdressing, enabling you to

progress onto a Level 2 programme or give you sufficient training to start an Apprenticeship

with a local employer. You will be introduced to topics such as styling women’s hair, shampoo

and conditioning and plating and dressing hair. Dress code is a black polo shirt and black tailored

trousers. No equipment purchase is necessary.

Childminder Preparation Programme

This course is an excellent fi rst step to become a registered child-minder. It will cover various

aspects including current legislation, policies and procedures for accidents, behaviour, safeguarding, health and safety and equal opportunities. You will be introduced to ways to market your service, plan your fi nances and identify sources of support. On successful completion you will be eligible to do an

additional course in paediatric fi rst-aid.

You will be able to connect with other jobseekers in the area to share advice and provide support to each other.

Reading College is located at the edge of Reading town centre. The Kings Road campus is easily accessible from surrounding towns like Wokingham, Bracknell,

Farnborough, Basingstoke, Newbury, Thatcham, Maidenhead and Slough.

Train

There are regular train services into Reading Station from nearby towns and London Paddington. The Kings Road

campus is approximately a 10 to 15 minute walk from Reading Station. You’ll fi nd the latest train services and

times at www.trainline.com or www.nationalrail.co.uk

Bus

Reading Buses and Arriva operate regular servicesthat stop along the Kings Road.

Reading Buses Routes 13, 14, 17.Arriva Routes 800, 850.First Group Route 190.Thames Travel Routes 126, 127.

There is a preferential rate for students on some weekly travel tickets during term-time (including evenings and

Bike

There are a large number of bike racks for students wishing to cycle to college.

Car

Car parking is available to students who live more than four miles from the campus. Parking permits are issued

on a fi rst come, fi rst served basis, and spaces are not guaranteed. Special car parking spaces and access

are provided for those with disabilities. The college is accessible directly from the A4 or the town centre. Junctions 10 and 11 of the M4 motorway are within
