Background to Get Set
• Official London 2012 Education programme
2008-2012
• Transferred to British Olympic Association and
British Paralympic Association in October 2012
• 24,000 schools and 4.5 million young people
reached
• Aims to:
– give all young people the chance to learn about and
live the Olympic and Paralympic Values
– build excitement about Team GB and ParalympicsGB,
using the Olympic and Paralympic Games as a hook
for learning and participation.
Impact of Get Set
• Get Set has a positive impact on:
– PE and school sport (range, number of young people,
hours on offer, leadership opportunities)
– Team work skills
– Motivation and aspirations
– Behaviour
– Attainment
– Perceptions of disability
• More than 92% of teachers say they will do more
through Get Set in the build-up to the Rio 2016

Get Set’s Road to Rio
• Challenging teams of young people to travel
the distance from London to Rio (9,298km)
• School add their physical activity using the
website or mobile app and their distance is
calculated
• Starter pack created with tips, record sheet
and poster
• Short film showing schools in action
• Exclusive poster sent to all schools that
record activity
• Content unlocked on reaching Rio

• Inspiring young people through
athletes, leaders and role models
• In our May hangout we chatted to
the British Ambassador to Brazil, his
Excellency Alexander Ellis, and
Olympic Skeet Shooter Amber Hill.
Google Hangouts
• In July our hangouts will
discuss nutrition and
training with a GB athlete
and a nutritionist,
followed by hangout
about kit.
• Awards scheme for 7-19 year olds
• Young people work through 5 themes: Know your
Values, Volunteering, Healthy Active Lifestyles,
Get Set for Rio 2016, Make a Pledge
• Values Stars, Champions and
Ambassadors levels

Values Awards
• Prizes on offer for schools adding activity on
the Road to Rio before the end of term:
– 10 teams will win exclusive Team GB and
ParalympicsGB kit.
– 20 schools will win Team GB Bahia bands
and ParalympicsGB Mandeville pens
– Every school will receive an Olympic and
Paralympic A2 poster.
