Transportation – A Crisis• Texas is facing a serious
transportation crisis that nobody is talking about.
• We do not have enough dedicated funds budgeted to even sustain our current road conditions beyond the next two years.
• The population of Texas is expected to double over the next 25 years

SJR 1 Questions & Answers
How much will bill passage mean for our roads?
Current estimates reveal that the amendment would generate approximately $1.4 billion per year for Texas’ highway fund. However, the final amount will be affected by a handful of variables, like energy prices and the amount of oil and gas production.Source: http://www.texasfuture.com/sjr-1-questions-answers/
Does this mean that we will end up with more toll roads or that we will incur more debt?
No, the constitutional amendment ensures that any revenue from the proposition may be used only for free-access, non-tolled projects. Further, the revenue generated cannot be used to issue more debt.
SJR 1 is an important initial step in returning Texas to a pay-as-you-go, free access road system, and a step away from massive debt and toll road approaches of the past
