A brief history of Sudoku:


• Sudoku is the Japanese abbreviation of a longer phrase, "Sūji wa dokushin ni kagiru,” which means "the digits must occur only once.”

• November, 2004: The London Times first publishes Sudoku.

• April, 2005: A national phenomenon in Britain, notoriety in the States begins.


• July 1, 2005: The first television game show, Sudoku Live, aired on the BBC.

• Fall, 2005, USA: Bookstores across the nation join the craze with countless collections and versions.

• Today: Sudoku is available on cell phones, iPods, and the Nintendo DS, in addition to major newspapers worldwide
