@Location3
Claiming Your Listings
Start by searching for your business on the major
local search channels:
• Google, Yahoo!, and Bing
Maps
• Superpages.com
• Local.com
• InfoUSA (database
provider)
• NAVTEQ (GPS provider)
@Location3
Claiming Your Listings
Make sure you protect your business information by
claiming your listings.
• This will prevent unwanted edits by
internet users, including competitors
• Look for the link that says “Claim this
listing” or “Business owner?”

Optimizing Your Listing Content
@Location3
Optimizing Content
Start by making sure that your basic information is
correct.
• Contact: Address, phone, email, website, hours of operation
• Description: Create a basic description of what you do
@Location3
Optimizing Content
Determine which search terms are most relevant to
your business and develop a keyword theme.
• What terms would someone use to
find your product/service?
• Use Google’s Keyword Tool:
https://adwords.google.com/select/
KeywordToolExternal
• Incorporate these keywords into
content, but be subtle
@Location3
Optimizing Content
Example of a well-optimized
business listing:
• Must meet Google’s quality
guidelines:

y?hl=en&answer=107528
• No keyword stuffing
• Taking good advantage of
Details section such as
“Brands”
@Location3
Optimizing Content
Enhance your listings with additional content for
search relevancy and a better user experience.
• Store photos, logos and video
• Coupons in Google listings
• Links to your social media
profiles
• Other details such as brands
carried, types of payment
accepted and languages
spoken
@Location3
Optimizing Content
Encourage your customers to write reviews about
your business.
• There is really no such thing as
a bad review; reviews =
relevancy
• While you should never create
false reviews, you can
encourage customers to write
them
• Offer incentives to do so
@Location3
Measuring Success
