Great exhibitions are rare – as rare as a supernova in fact. Occurring once every 50 years, they really are a once-in-a- lifetime opportunity. In the spirit of great exhibitions of the past, ours is a showcase of the outstanding and the extraordinary.

We are the North that bought you the modern world - the North that gave us the steam engine, the electric lightbulb, the beautiful game of football, the Beatles and the wonder material of Graphene.

We’ve achieved a lot, but this is just the beginning.

It is right here where the future is being forged. In labs, lecture theatres, offices, studios and factories from Liverpool to Blyth, Hull to Carlise.

Their breakthroughs and innovations have an impact on everything from the homes we live in, the way we travel and the jobs we do to the medicines, energy and gadgets we use.

Within our Exhibition, hundreds of designers, engineers, musicians, makers, artists, community groups, businesses and universities have created exciting new ways to share their latest work with you.

This is a unique chance to explore every corner of the North, to meet the people behind the magic and get involved.

Diversity is at the heart of our Northern charm. Subtleties in our humour, language, culture, communities and creativity reflect the contrasting environments that shaped them – from rugged coastlines and dramatic countryside to bustling towns and cosmopolitan cities.
