Message from the Principal
Coming Up in Week 11
As always, this term has flown by as we only have one week to go. There is a lot happening during the last
week so I have listed the important information. For more specific details, please check Facebook and
Skoolbag.
Monday—Glendy Awards Assembly from 1:00pm in the hall
Thursday—Easter Hat Parade (K-2 only) from 10:40am in the school hall
Friday—Glendy Rewards Day—water play for students who received their Glendy Award
Winter Uniform
It is just about time to kiss the warmer weather goodbye as we start to head into the cooler months. Our
school uniform is usually of a high standard during the warmer months but tends to drop off as students
require warmer clothing. Please remember to order winter uniform items well in advance so that you beat the
first bout of cold weather. Jumpers and jackets can be purchased from the uniform shop but please order
before the holidays. If you would like to discuss any uniform matters, our uniform coordinator is at school
from 8:30-9:15 Tuesdays and Fridays.
ANZAC Service
I will be attending the Cardiff RSL Dawn Service with our student leaders again this year. I encourage any
other students and their families to attend if they wish and it always looks great if students are in their
uniform so they can represent our school. The service commences from 5:00am. The school will hold a
small ANZAC Service at the school hall when we return from holidays on Tuesday 30th April.
NAPLAN
Just a reminder to our Year 3 and 5 students and families that NAPLAN assessments will be conducted from
Tuesday 14th May to Thursday 16th May. To ensure the assessments run smoothly please make sure your
child is present on these days and that they arrive on time. If you have any questions about NAPLAN,
please
contact your child’s teacher.
Mother Day Stall and BBQ
To help celebrate all the wonderful things our mums do, the P&C will be running a Mothers’ Day Stall and
the school will be putting on a special Mothers’ Day Breakfast. The Mothers’ Day stall will be held on May
9th and the Breakfast will be held from 7:30am on May 10th. More information will be distributed in the
following days.
Eyes on Learning
I am excited to announce that early in Term 2 we will be holding a special event for parents called “Eyes on
Learning”. Eyes on Learning will involve our teachers setting up a variety of stall type areas where each stall
shares information about our school priorities. Stalls will include Visible Learning, PBL, The Literacy and
Numeracy Progressions, Growth Mindset and much more. I will publish more information about Eyes on
Learning next week.
SRC Out of Uniform Day
Thank you to all the students who helped the SRC with their Bright and Colourful fundraiser. They raised
$224.00 for the school. The SRC have prioritised new equipment for the sandpit as well as a new cover.
Act Of Kindness Awards for Term 1
Congratulations to all the Act of Kindness Award Recipients for Term1. I like this quote from the Greek
storyteller Aesop to sum up the importance of kindness; “ No act of kindness, no matter how small, is ever
wasted’.
The award recipients for Term 1 were:
Natika Hoad
Blake Riley
Jorja Newstead
Jodhi Kennedy
Alicia Moss
Angel-Leigh Cutmore
Eliana Whatman
Kindergarten 2020
Is your child starting Kindergarten in 2020? Do you know someone who lives in our school zone with a child
starting Kindergarten in 2020? If so, our office is now taking down names for Kindergarten 2020. Putting your
child’s name down now will help us prepare for Kindergarten transition and ensure information is provided
where necessary. If any families would like more information on Kindergarten or the school, please contact the
schools office.
As this is the last newsletter before our break, I would like to wish all our students and their families a safe and
happy holiday. I have been beyond amazed by our start to the year and I am looking forward to another term full
of fun and learning. We have a Staff Development Day on Monday 29th April so school resumes on Tuesday
30th April.
Kind regards,
Mr Forbes
Term 1 has been quite a busy term for our wonderful students. Time has absolutely
flown and I have thoroughly enjoyed getting to know each and every one of our special
class members. We are finally very settled into our routines and expectations in the
classroom and are enjoying visits from Sapphire, our class budgie.
We have been focusing heavily on improving the quality of our writing and using
adjectives and Wow Words as much as we can. It’s really pleasing to see everyone
striving to do their best and improve on their writing day after day.
We have a strong focus in 1/2A of working on having a Growth Mindset. The students
are very good at ‘never giving up’ and knowing that ‘mistakes help us to learn’. We will
continue with our Growth Mindset journey throughout Term 2 and for the remainder of
the year.
Stay tuned for more updates from Awesome 1/2A
