WAPDA was created in 1958

The purpose of coordinating and giving a unified direction to the development of schemes in Water and Power Sectors

This function was previously being dealt with, by the respective Electricity and Irrigation Department of the Provinces

THE CHARTER OF DUTIES OF WAPDA IS TO INVESTIGATE, PLAN AND EXECUTE SCHEMES FOR THE FOLLOWING FIELDS:

INTERNAL CASH GENERATION; GRANTS MADE BY THE GOVERNMENT; LOANS OBTAINED FROM THE

GOVERNMENT; SALE PROCEEDS OF BONDS ISSUED

UNDER THE AUTHORITY OF GOVERNMENT;

LOANS OBTAINED BY THE AUTHORITY FROM THE FINANCIAL INSTITUTIONS;

FOREIGN LOANS OBTAINED FROM THE WORLD BANK, ADB ETC. AND

ALL OTHER SUMS RECEIVED BY THE AUTHORITY.

The settlement with India over the water usage of the Indus Basin rivers was being negotiated

GEPCO has been setup over an area of jurisdiction and network of former

Area Electricity Board, which was created in early eighties

It encompassed the areas of existing Districts of Gujranwala, Hafizabad, Sialkot, Narowal, Gujrat and Mandi Bahauddin

GEPCO was incorporated on 25th April, 1998

Obtain certificate for commencement of business on 5th June, 1998
