Task Proposal - Background

• Water cycle community has been addressing the integration and analysis of heterogeneous data sources for a number of years– Different data types (in situ, satellite, model output– Distributed sources– Different data access protocols (OPeNDAP, OGC WCS)

• Effort has included collaboration of multiple projects/organizations– Coordinated Enhanced Observing Period (CEOP)– CEOS Working Group on Information Systems and

Services (WGISS)– Distributed Information Analysis System (DIAS)

Task Proposal

• Use the work that has been done is support of the water cycle community as the foundation of DA-07-06.

• Solicit interest from additional participants.• Develop a task roadmap to accomplish the first

series of activities. • Review other GEO tasks that may contribute to or

complement this task.• Broaden the scope to include other interested data

providers.• Develop pilot project to extend existing capabilities• Pursue opportunities to support additional SBAs via

pilot projects.

Task RoadmapFebruary 2008: Give presentations at GEO and CEOS/WGISS meetings outlining what DA-07-06 is planning to do.

March 2008: Develop a white paper that sets out what Task DA-07-06 will achieve and how this relates to the activities of the other GEO Tasks.

March 2008: Finalize a survey to be sent/taken to a large number of centers, groups that carry out integrated data services.

June 2008: Results of the survey will be completed and made available for analysis.

August 2008: A pilot project in the water sector will be selected to demonstrate integration across SBAs.  Criteria will be developed to determine the success of the project.

September 2008: Results of the analysis of the survey results will be analyzed and a manuscript on the results would be prepared.

October 2008: A second pilot project will be launched that would involve two or three SBAs.

January to March 2009: A workshop will be held to have national centers and groups  demonstrate successful data integration services and to showcase progress on the case studies.
