General Databases GENESIS-Online about 220 statistics >NUTS3 ½ billion values,about 600.000 quarterly table retrievals

Regional database for Germany with over 90 statistics for ≤ NUTS 3, of which 20 statistics for municipalities, in total about 20 million values

In total about 400 statistics of which 2/3 are EU-wide harmonized with 5,5 million monthly visits and 760.000 downloads

Grid based data

Pros more detailed regional information

stable over time (changes of boundaries do not matter)

possibilities of matching with other layers

easy to collect

efficient and easily enlargeable

Cons higher initial effort (e.g. reviewing of addresses)

limited regional accuracy (1 pixel ≠ 1 object) in case of square shaped units

high data volumes

not applicable for regional analyses at exact parcel level (vector)

higher attention to confidentiality
