GEORGIA O’ KEEFFE

Georgia O'Keeffe was born on November 15, 1887, in a farmhouse near Sun Prairie, Wisconsin (USA)

By age ten she had decided to become an artist. She loved painting and drawing.

O'Keeffe studied at the School of Art Institute of Chicago and at the Art Students League in New York.

Her earlier work was mostly abstract.

Between 1929 and 1949, O'Keeffe spent part of the year working in New Mexico

After 1949 she lived in New Mexico where she collected rocks and bones from the desert floor and made them

subjects in her work.

She moved to Santa Fe in 1984, where she died on March 6, 1986, at the age of 98.
