At Home Geometry Project Parallel Lines City

Part One and Part Two - Due: ________________________

Part 1: For part one of this project, you will make own street map for a fictional city (you must name

your city). This city will consist of:

1. Six (6) streets that are parallel to each other. Each street should be named for reference.

2. Two (2) transversal streets. These should be named as well.

(Do not make the transversals parallel to each other)

3. All streets must be drawn with a ruler or some type of straight edge.

4. Traffic lights or stop signs at four (4) different intersections.

5. Drawn and labeled buildings and landmarks.

The point of this project is not to place these buildings anywhere, but to demonstrate your

understanding of different angles, as well as to understand when they are supplementary or congruent.

You can still be creative in doing so, but please place the buildings in the following locations.

_______ A park and the school at congruent alternate interior angles.

_______The post office and the bank at consecutive interior angles.

_______ The fire department and police station at congruent alternate exterior angles.

_______ A restaurant and courthouse at consecutive exterior angles.

_______ A gas station and grocery store at congruent corresponding angles.

_______ A movie theater and arcade as a linear pair.

_______ Your house and your friend’s house at vertical angles.

Each building must be labeled or a picture of the building should be used. Your final project will

be turned in on poster paper. All lines must be drawn with a straight edge and the project must

be done with color pencils or markers. Effort is a huge part of the grade.

Part 2:

For part one of this project, you will write a two page fictional story about being lost in your parallel

lines city. Your story must be very descriptive about parallel lines and the angle relationships and must

be full of geometric vocabulary.

You have two weeks and two weekends for both of these projects. Do not wait until the last minute. No

late projects will be accepted. Both parts of the project must be complete with all requirements

completed.
