Visual Studio GeoMedia has been upgraded to use of Visual Studio 2013. We have targeted our .NET components to be compatible with the .NET Framework 4.0, which should avoid impacts to .NET developers. However, GeoMedia itself requires .NET framework 4.5 on the computer, and for C++ components we are using the Visual Studio 2013 runtimes. Please refer to Microsoft’s website for possible compatibility issues between runtime environments.

Developer Tools

Visual Basic Command Wizard This tool is no longer delivered or supported. The command wizard for .net is still delivered and supported.

installusrcmd.exe This tool is no longer delivered or supported. The installappcmd.exe utility is still delivered and supported as the only means to register custom commands with GeoMedia.

Coordinate Systems API A change was made in GeoMedia to utilize a common implementation of our coordinate systems platform that is shared across various of our product lines. Minor changes are required in application code as a consequence of this platform upgrade. These changes are recorded in the GeoMedia Developer documentation, in the GeoMedia Object Reference. The primary benefit of the new platform is that it provides a non-PIA-based implementation of the .NET interfaces. These interfaces are more .NET-friendly, while providing the same functionality as the previous interfaces, along with a few more features. The existing .NET interfaces will continue to be supported, but will be deprecated after one major release in lieu of the new interfaces.

MGDM Data Server This data server, supporting datasets for the MGE GeoData Manager product, is no longer delivered or supported.

Page 10: GeoMedia Release Notes 15 - Hexagon Geospatial · 2016. 2. 23. · GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 8 About this Release This document describes the enhancements for GeoMedia 2015 and

GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 10

GeoWorkspaces GeoWorkspace files from GeoMedia 2014 and previous may be opened in GeoMedia 2015. GeoWorkspace files saved with GeoMedia 2015 cannot be opened in GeoMedia 2014 and previous.

Catalog Editor Utility expansion pack This expansion pack is no longer delivered or supported.

Feature Caching The format of indexed feature cache (IFC) files has changed with this release, as has the structure of the folder which contains and organizes those files.

When a GeoWorkspace from GeoMedia 2013 or GeoMedia 2014 is opened in GeoMedia 2015, if warehouse caching was turned on for the GeoWorkspace then all suitable warehouse connections will have feature caching turned on for GeoMedia 2015, and new cache files will be generated in the new feature cache folder organization (there will be a delay the first time the GeoWorkspace is opened). IFC files from GeoMedia 2013 and GeoMedia 2014 will be left alone, as other GeoWorkspace files may continue to reference them. They can be deleted at the user’s discretion at any time.

Future Impacts

MGE Data Server We plan to stop delivery and support of this data server with GeoMedia 2016.

FRAMME Data Server We plan to stop delivery and support of this data server with GeoMedia 2016.

ArcInfo Data Server We plan to stop delivery and support of this data server with GeoMedia 2016.

GeoGraphics Data Server We plan to stop delivery and support of this data server with GeoMedia 2016.

Enhancements

Data Access

SQL Server Spatial data server This read-write data server, formerly available only as an expansion pack, is now included in GeoMedia.

The data server has also been enhanced to support the native arc geometry/geography types introduced in SQL Server 2008. Prior to GeoMedia 2015, these native geometries were stored and served as close approximations of the geometry, e.g. arcs as stroked polylines. With GeoMedia 2015 these native geometries are stored and served using their native definition as of SQL Server 2012, e.g. arcs are served as 3-point circular strings if the warehouse coordinate system is projected (“geometry” rather than “geography” in SQL Server Spatial parlance). The newly supported SQL spatial geometry types are CIRCULARSTRING, COMPOUNDCURVE, and CURVEPOLYGON.

In addition, it now supports Date data type and Time data type.

SQL Server data server Now supports Date data type and Time data type.

CAD data server Now supports AutoCAD drawing files produced by AutoCAD 2013.

Database Utilities Now supports SQL Server Spatial.

Now permits entry of a custom SRID for fields of the SQL Server spatial data types:

For geometry data type, the user can either select a SRID from the pre-populated list or enter any other custom SRID.

For geography data type, the user must choose an unprojected SRID from the pre-populated list. This SRID is not used by SQL Server or GeoMedia, but may be used by other applications.

Page 12: GeoMedia Release Notes 15 - Hexagon Geospatial · 2016. 2. 23. · GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 8 About this Release This document describes the enhancements for GeoMedia 2015 and

GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 12

GeoMedia Objects Read-write GDO data servers for Oracle, SQL Server, and SQL Server Spatial are now included in GeoMedia Objects.

G/Technology Interoperability The G/Technology data server, the Import G/Technology Legend command, the Synchronize GeoMedia Edits command, and the G/Technology Interoperability utility, all formerly available only in the G/Technology Interface expansion pack, are now included in GeoMedia Desktop.

The G/Technology Interface ribbon tab is shown only when a connection has been made to a G/Technology warehouse, either through the G/Technology or Oracle connection type.

Export

Export to File Geodatabase command Export to File Geodatabase is now available in GeoMedia 2015. It will export feature data from any warehouse connection into File Geodatabase format. You can select any mixture of feature classes, queries, categories, and reference features, across any number of connections to be exported.

Page 13: GeoMedia Release Notes 15 - Hexagon Geospatial · 2016. 2. 23. · GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 8 About this Release This document describes the enhancements for GeoMedia 2015 and

GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 13

Options are available to:

Export 3D coordinate information

Create a new File Geodatabase or append to an existing one

Edit or accept target coordinate system EPSG code

Page 14: GeoMedia Release Notes 15 - Hexagon Geospatial · 2016. 2. 23. · GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 8 About this Release This document describes the enhancements for GeoMedia 2015 and

GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 14

ExportToFGDBService The Export to File Geodatabase functionality is available to application developers through the GeoMedia API.

Export to GML Command The command has been enhanced to automatically copy the version-specific GML schema files from the appropriate subfolder under <Program Files>\Common Files\Intergraph\GeoMedia\Schemas into the folder specified for the exported application schema file. This eliminates the need to manually copy the schema files before trying to connect to the exported GML files with the GML data server.

GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 15

Export to AutoCAD command This command now supports export of AutoCAD drawing files compatible with AutoCAD 2013 version.

ExportToAutoCADService This service now supports export of AutoCAD 2013 version in the OutputFileVersion property.

Export to SQL Server command This command now offers the following three modes for export:

SQL Server 2012 Spatial (or later) – exports to SQL Server 2012 Spatial format. Geometry storage uses native spatial GEOMETRY/GEOGRAPHY combined with varbinary(max) for unsupported geometry types. The geometry export format uses the new spatial data types.

SQL Server 2008 Spatial – exports to SQL Server 2008 Spatial format. Geometry storage uses native spatial GEOMETRY/GEOGRAPHY combined with varbinary(max) for unsupported geometry types. The geometry export format continues to use close approximations for the spatial data types.

GeoMedia – exports to the GeoMedia legacy format for SQL Server. Geometry storage uses varbinary(max).

ExportToSQLServerService This service now supports export of the Date and Time data types of SQL Server, and includes support for the new spatial data types of SQL Server Spatial.

Coordinate Systems

Geodetic Datums GeoMedia now supports the following standard (predefined) horizontal geodetic datums:

NAD83 (CSRS) – Canadian Spatial Reference System based on North American Datum 1983

NAD83 (NSRS2007) – National Spatial Reference System 2007 based on North American Datum 1983

Pulkovo 1942 (58) – Adjustment and densification of Pulkovo 1942 completed in 1958

Pulkovo 1942 (83) – Adjustment of Pulkovo 1942 in 1983

NTv2-transformation Support is provided for multiple grid files for NTv2-transformation between different geodetic datums. The autodt.ini datum transformation configuration file now allows users to specify the binary grid file to be used by individual entries in the file that specify use of the Canadian National (NTv2) model.

GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 16

EPSG Codes EPSG code support has been expanded to include most codes and updated to version 8.5 of the EPSG code database.

Analysis

CENTROID expression function A new function is now available which computes the centroid of a geometry. This is the true center-of-gravity of a geometry, which may or may not be contained by the geometry. This is in contrast to the CENTERPOINT expression function which always generates a point contained by the geometry.

Page 17: GeoMedia Release Notes 15 - Hexagon Geospatial · 2016. 2. 23. · GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 8 About this Release This document describes the enhancements for GeoMedia 2015 and

GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 17

Map Display

Center Map command A new command is now found on the Home ribbon bar, which allows you to center a map window at a point. The point can be given by mouse click or by precision keyin.

Select Tool command support for mouse wheel navigation Use of the mouse wheel to zoom in and zoom out by rolling the wheel is improved to center the operation on the original point of zoom.

Use of the mouse wheel to pan by pressing the wheel down and dragging, is now available.

Rigorous Raster Reprojection On the Map Display tab of the Options command is a new checkbox “Advanced image processing”. By default it is not checked. In this mode, the behaviour matches that of prior releases of GeoMedia, in which raster data is projected from its native coordinate reference system to that of the GeoWorkspace through a simple Affine transformation.

If the checkbox is checked, raster data is projected using a rigorous reprojection algorithm in which the data is resampled. This results in improved overlay of the raster data, but degraded performance.

WMS display GeoMedia 2015 has significant functional and performance improvements in displaying WMS data, especially when the map is rotated and when coordinate system of the GeoWorkspace does not match the default coordinate system of the WMS layer.

The [WMS Area of Interest] INI keyword gives you control over the range of data that is requested from a WMS site. To get better image alignment with your vector data and less image distortion, define the range to match your service territory. The tighter the range is around your service territory, the better the WMS results.

Labeling

Reusing Labeling Configurations In GeoMedia 2015, the Labeling Configuration is now saved with the map window's legend. Association of Labeling Configurations with map window legends provides the ability to reuse an existing Labeling Configuration by simply saving the map window legend as a Named Legend. When the map window legend is saved, all of the labeling parameters that have been defined in Label Manager are automatically saved with the Named Legend.

This provides the ability to reuse existing Labeling Configurations within the GeoWorkspace, as well as enabling legends to be copied across GeoWorkspaces through GeoMedia’s Library system via Library Organizer.

Data Capture

GPS The GPS command formerly available only through the GeoMedia Mobile expansion pack, is now included in GeoMedia Desktop on the Vector ribbon tab.

Queued Edit GeoMedia 2015 now remembers the active position in the active queue across sessions, restoring Queued Edit to the item that was active when the GeoWorkspace was last saved.

Data Window

Display Data Window from Legend Entry A new command “Display Data Window” is available in the right-click context menu of the legend within a map window. It creates a new data window for each selected legend entry. For a thematic sub-legend entry, it creates data window for only the features represented by the chosen thematic class.

Clipboard On the Options command, the setting “Copy data window column headers to clipboard” formerly had a default value of unchecked. The default value is now checked, to expedite the common workflow of pasting data window content into Excel. This change will be seen primarily on new seats – desktop configurations which have previously had GeoMedia installed will continue to see the former setting, rather than the new default.

Interoperability

APOLLO Catalog Explorer The earlier “Add to Active Map Window” capability is replaced with three new choices, “Add WMS to Map”, “Add Image to Map”, and “Add Features to Map”. These are now available via right-click of a catalog item in the results pane of the “ERDAS APOLLO Catalog Explorer” dialog.

“Add WMS to Map” adds the data associated with the selected catalog record as a WMS layer.

“Add Image to Map” adds the image associated with the selected catalog record.

“Add Features to Map” adds the features referenced in the selected catalog record, using the corresponding GeoMedia data server. A GeoMedia connection is established to the source data, if one is not already available,

and a legend entry is added to the active map window. The style for the legend entry is the APOLLO catalog item’s default style. The source data formats supported are Shapefile, GML, and File Geodatabase.

Feature Caching

Options command This command no longer offers ability to turn on Warehouse Caching for the GeoWorkspace. Control of feature caching has been moved to the New Connection and Connections commands, where it can be controlled on a per-connection basis.

New Connection command This command now offers a choice to “Enable feature caching” when creating a new connection.

GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 26

Connections command This command now offers the ability to turn feature caching on or off for a connection, on the Connection Properties dialog.

Connection object This object now provides API to enable or disable feature caching for the connection, and to designate the location of feature cache files.

NewConnectionDialog object This object now provides API to enable the visibility of feature caching controls.

PublishIFC utility This new command-line utility provides the ability for an administrator to publish cache files for an enterprise, from RDBMS data sources in Oracle, SQL Server, or Access. Publishing can include nongraphic feature classes, and the administrator can control which feature classes are to be cached, and in what coordinate reference system (CRS). The administrator may publish to a shared location on a server, for use by many enterprise clients. Indexed Feature Cache (IFC) files can also be deleted or refreshed through the command-line utility.

GeoMedia now employs the feature cache in more circumstances include spatial filtering and many cases of attribute filtering.

GeoMedia 15.01 Release Notes 27

Indexed Feature Cache (IFC) files The format of indexed feature cache (IFC) files has improved with this release, including the ability to have files of size greater than 4 gigabytes, and the ability to organize the file spatially on disk for more rapid access in many workflows. Spatial organization of IFC files occurs only for those files published through the PublishIFC utility.

The organization of the feature cache folder has also improved with this release. Rather than a complex folder hierarchy with challenging folder names, it now has a flat folder structure with content tracked via a cache manifest file.
