    1) To download the TIFF data product of the area of Malvan and surrounding area i.e.

of path 147 and row 049.

First open the site http://earthexplorer.usgs.gov/,login or create an account for this site. Then

type in Malvan and input the dates between which you want the maps and also the months.

You get the co-ordinates of Malvan which is seen in the map below(as 1.).

    2) To get the true colour composite(TCC) and False colour compositee(FCC), I have

used the application MultiSpecW32. Select open image. Open as a Multispectral type

and select all the pictures that have been extracted earlier. Link the selected files to

    new image window.

Select the Channels for Red, blue and green colour. Depending on the channels

chosen you may get a FCC of the image, a TCC of the image or some other colour

    composite.

Finally select the area in the map which you want and save that image. Hence, you

can only use the part of the map which you need.

    3) To georeference the image Page-1, I used QGIS(Quantum GIS version 2.4).

Select raster, then georeference and georeference again.

It opens the plugin window, which is divided into two parts. The top section where

your raster will be displayed and the bottom section where a table showing your GCPs

    will appear.

    8/14

To open the image go to file, open raster, browse and open image Page-1.

  • 8/10/2019 Geology of Malvan

    9/14

You will be asked to choose the rasters co-ordinate refrence system(CRS). This is to

specify the projection and datum of your control points. I have chosen the Everest

    1830 datum.

The image will be loaded on the top section.

Use the zoom buttons to learn more about the map. Click the add point button to add

    co-ordinates.

Select a point on the map and state its co-ordinates. You can either enter the

co-ordinates in Degree, Minutes, Seconds(DMS) or Degree Decimal(DD) manner. I

    had entered in DD manner.

    11/14

Since the above map doesnt have co-ordinate grid with markings, I have opened the

TCC of the image done earlier in MultiSpecW32, selected points which are easily

visible on both maps and then given the co-ordinates.

I have inputed four points. But the more points you input, the more accurate the

    georeferencing will be.

    12/14

To start georeferencing go to file and then click on start georeferencing.

The transformation settings opens. Input in the Transformation type as Thin Plate

Spline and Target SRS as EPSG::4326 as it is a widely compatible datum. choose thedestination where you want to store it in output raster and then click OK.

You will now see the georefrenced layer loaded in QGIS.
