3. A hemisphere is half of a sphere(globe) created by the Prime Meridian or the Equator
4. The Equator is an imaginary line that divides the globe into northern and southern hemispheres. Can you find this on a map?
5. The Prime Meridian is an imaginary line that divides the globe into eastern and western hemispheres. Can you find this on a map?
Use the map that was provided on this study guide to label the 7 continents, 5 oceans, Prime Meridian line, and the Equator line.
6. The equator and the prime meridian are used to create the four hemispheres. What are the four hemispheres?
7. REGIONS are places (areas) that have common characteristics
8. We use maps to find places. Most maps have a grid. A grid is the lines on a map that run from the top of the map to the bottom, and from left side of the map to the right side. These lines cross each other. The letter (left) and the number (bottom) coordinates of a grid system identify the exact location of a place.
9. Make sure you know how to properly label a compass rose with all of the cardinal directions (North, East, South, and West) and the intermediate cardinal directions (Northeast, Southeast, Northwest, and Southwest). Use the compass above to practice labeling it with the directions.
