Denmark is a Nordic country located in Northern Europe. It consists of the Jutland peninsula and several islands in the Baltic sea, referred to as the Danish Archipelago. Denmark is located southwest of Sweden and due south of Norway and is bordered by the German state Schleswig-Holstein to the south.

In this modern market economy features a high-tech agricultural sector, the latest industry firms worldwide in pharmaceuticals, shipping and renewable energy, and high dependence on foreign trade. The Danish economy by broad measures of a welfare state, an equitable distribution of income and a comfortable standard of living is also characterized. Denmark is a net exporter of food and energy and enjoys a large positive balance of its balance of payments.

In 1940 was invaded by nazis soldiers. This invasion lasted five years. And in 1945 nazis went away.

In the book , we can see some representative geographical locations , such as the baltic sea. It is a salt water inland sea of northern Europe open to the North Sea and eventually the Atlantic Ocean through the Kattegat and Skagerrak straits . The surrounding countries are (from Scandinavia and proceeding clockwise ) : Sweden , Finland , Russia ( Leningrad and Kaliningrad Oblast ), Estonia , Latvia , Lithuania, Poland, Germany and Denmark.

Its area is 432,800 km ² and includes two large gulfs : the Gulf of Finland , between the south of this country and Estonia, and the Gulf of Bothnia , between the east coast of Sweden and western Finland. Geologically very young : it exists only from the sixth millennium BC It is very shallow ( the average is 57 m , the maximum depth is 459 m north of the Swedish island of Gotland) , which , together with the little opening to the ocean, making the renewal of slow water and favors pollution problems . Tides are of very small amplitude .
