Geographe Classic Saturday 6th April 2019
The Geographe Classic for 2019 is a shallow water/beach change relay, consisting of a variety of paddling conditions to suit all members of our Zone. Teams are to paddle down to Meelup Beach, having 4 changes on the way, where we have lunch. After lunch teams enter their endurance crews to paddle straight back to the start. There will be 2 re-grouping points during the race, the end of leg 2 and 4. The race clock will start at Geographe Bay Yacht Club, it will stop at Mitchell St changeover and Meelup Beach, for the re-grouping of canoes and to allow for lunch. Leg 3 will start approximately 10-15 minutes after the last canoe lands at Mitchell St. Meelup Beach will allow about 1-1.5hour for lunch. Team’s times of landing at Mitchell St and Meelup Beach will be recorded. The clock will re-start for the final leg. The three times will be added together with the fastest overall winning The Geographe Classic Tiki Trophy. Driving directions have been provided for each leg below.

Teams are to have minimum 6 paddlers, maximum of 16 paddlers.
Junior’s U14 years can do any leg 1 to 4 (with parental and coach permission slip signed)

NOTE: Course distance may be varied according to weather conditions, and start times may change, please ensure you check with race officials on the day and attend the race briefing. Alternate race course is to run the legs in the reverse direction. FEES AND NOMINATION INFORMATION Entry Fee $50 per person
Paddler’s seat fee includes safety craft, lunch, dinner after the race and race souvenir. Registrars please refer to the instructions at the end of this package. All clubs must lodge a CLUB NOMINATION via your registrar’s log in. Nominations close at 5pm Sunday March 31st 2019. TEAM RELAY MATRIX is required for Scrutineering no later than 9am Friday 05th April; this is to be emailed to [email protected] This is a new requirement to ensure mixed crews ratios. This race will be run under the AOCRA Training and Regatta Rules. SCRUTINEERING Requirements; Compliance sticker Tow rope, 12mm X 20/25m long, attached to the forward spreader 2 x Bailers 1 x spare paddle 6 x PFD - easily accessible 2 x flares Storm covers to be fitted at discretion of race director, this will be advised at the briefing. ACCOMMODATION Camping is available at the Geographe Bay Yacht Club on both Friday and Saturday night. $15, per site, per night. Cash only. Collected by Wavies Camp Manager, paid to GBYC. Swags, Tents, Campervans, small Caravans welcome. CATERING Dinner Friday night – Geographe Bay Yacht Club have their bar and kitchen open. Bookings are essential. $22 per person, 3 course buffet meal. Phone Neal 0419 921 130 Saturday – included, Lunch at Meelup Beach is Subway. Dinner is Pizza on the lawns. Geographe Bay Yacht Club will have the bar open. Any dietary requirements should be notified no later than 30.03.2019. Adequate hydration is very important in any endurance racing and team captains should ensure that all team members take in plenty of fluids throughout the day. Please don’t forget to slip, slop, slap. Always be Sunsmart.
Leg 1 - Geographe Bay Yacht Club, 1 King Street, Busselton
to Abbey Boat Ramp, Geographe Bay Road, Abbey WA (6.5km)
Beach start at the Geographe Bay Yacht Club, head directly west. Canoes to stop on the eastern side
(Busselton side) of the boat ramp keeping a distance of 300m from the boat ramp.
DRIVING; From the end of King Street, turn right onto Bussell Highway (follow for 6.6kms). At
roundabout take 2nd exit onto Caves Road (go 400m). Turn right onto Roberts Road, follow to the end.
Turn right onto Geographe Bay Road. Abbey Boat Ramp is within 100m.

Leg 2 - Abbey Boat Ramp to 1 Mitchell St, Marybrook, WA 6280 (5km)
DRIVING; Take Roberts Road back to Caves Road. Turn right onto Caves Road (follow for 5km). Turn
right onto Mitchell St. There is limited room for vehicles so please be conscious of each other. NOTE
please use the facilities (toilets and bins) at Abbey Boat Ramp as there is nothing available at Mitchell
St.

Please stay off the grass at the Bali hut. This is PRIVATE property.
Leg 3 - Mitchell St to Dunsborough Bay Yacht Club, 307 Geographe Bay Rd,
Quindalup WA 6281 (6.5km)
DRIVING; Turn right from Mitchell St back onto Caves Road (travel 8km). At the roundabout take the
3rd exit onto Elmore Road. At the end turn right onto Geographe Bay Road. Dunsborough Bay Yacht
Club will be on the left 1.6km down.

Leg 4 - Dunsborough Bay Yacht Club to Meelup Beach, Meelup Beach Road,
Naturaliste WA 6281 (8km)
On leaving Dunsborough Bay Yacht Club all canoes are to head straight out to sea. Once clear of
yachts and other water craft turn left and head across Dunn Bay. You will pass Castle Bay prior to
Meelup Beach. Head to the furthest end of the beach, keeping the boating markers on the ama side.
DRIVING; Take Geographe Bay Road, turn left onto Elmore, turn right onto Caves Road. Follow Caves
Road for 3kms. Stay on Caves road and follow the signs to Town Centre/Cape Naturaliste. At the
roundabout take the 1st exit to Cape Naturaliste Road. Follow this for 4km. Meelup Beach Road will
be on your right. Turn right again onto an unnamed road to get to Meelup Beach and carpark.
Leg 5 - Meelup Beach to Geographe Bay Yacht Club, 1 King Street, Busselton (24Km Iron)
On Leaving Meelup beach, following the Lead Vessel, paddle straight off the beach in a northerly direction for 200-300m, round the bouy on the non-ama side then head ESE back to the GGBYC. The race concludes when one of the team’s crew members runs through the finish line located on the eastern (town) side of GBYC boat ramp
NOMINATION INSTRUCTIONS STEP 1 All clubs must lodge a CLUB NOMINATION via your registrar’s log in.
Nominations close at 5pm Sunday March 31st 2019. You are required to enter 1 x OC1 team, per person. Eg; if you have 12 people in your team, you enter 12 x OC1. If you have 16 people in your team, you enter 16 x OC1. If you have a combination of adults and juniors you must enter the correct ratios. Eg; if you have a team of 14 people but that includes 2 x U14 girls and 2 x U16 boys then you are required to select 10x OC1 plus 2 x U14 girls plus 2 x U16 boys.
STEP 2 TEAM NOMINATION must be lodged via AOCRA no later than 5pm Sunday March 31st
Senior and Junior members are selected individually. Select each member, ensuring a tick appears,
then select GO. (You can search other club members if you have a paddler from another club by
pressing the black circle with white + sign).
If you have more than 1 crew follow the extra steps below;
1. Select Team nominations - submit new. 2. Select event, submit new team 3. Select crew members 4. Hit GO button 5. Tick acknowledgement box and enter Team 1 “Name and Canoe” in the notes section. 6. Hit Submit button Repeat process for each crew.
STEP 3 TEAM RELAY MATRIX is required for Scrutineering no later than 9am Friday 05th April;
this is to be emailed to [email protected] This is to ensure that only mixed crews are racing in all legs. The ratio is 3:3 unless you have a male junior between U14 – 16 that you want to sit in a women seat.
