Fishing was used by Old Testament prophets as a metaphor for gathering people for judgment. This image fits the transforming power of God’s rule that brings judgment and death to the old (once a fish is hooked, it is fatal consequences for the fish; life cannot go on as before), yet promises a new creation.
-NIV Application Commentary
I. Total commitment to Jesus’ calling
DISCIPLESHIP“Genuine discipleship is wholehearted discipleship.” – John Stott
Christ is a leader that people want to follow, so much they would leave everything that they know and have (Andrew/Peter – their professions and James/John – their family).
I. Total commitment to Jesus’ calling
DISCIPLESHIP“Genuine discipleship is wholehearted discipleship.” – John Stott
The call is there for us now to all be his disciples and followers. Do we truly know what it takes?
Find time throughout the week to reflect on the cost of discipleship.
Pray that God would change our hearts and lives to fully commit to Jesus’ calling to be His.
