• A political subdivision of the State of Louisiana• Created by state legislation• Governing authority is the City Council of New

Orleans• Boundaries shall include: Intersection of Bayou

St. John and Robert E. Lee Blvd.; then following Robert E. Lee to its intersection with Leon C. Simon Blvd.; then Leon C. Simon to its intersection with the Industrial Canal ;along the Industrial Canal to I-10 then along I-10 to I-610 to Bayou St John to the beginning .

Modeled after the ADD in Algiers

• GDD is modeled after the Algiers Development District in Algiers which has been very successful for 10 years in providing economic development for the community by partnering with the State of Louisiana and the City of New Orleans

• Examples in Algiers: Federal City, Levee Bike Trail, Road Construction, Lights on Bridges, Sheriff Partnership in Keep Algiers Clean Program

First Project for GDD

• To partner with the City of New Orleans to stabilize and return the Milne Boy’s Home to use for the community and City who has 75 year lease on the property

• GDD secured funds through the Capital Outlay funding to help with repairs and restoration

GDD Priorities for Milne Boy’s Home• GDD agreed with City to use state funds to:• A design development by architect firm• Lead and asbestos abatement• Phase I demolition
