Known for their unusual videos,
this unique example shows
how concept videos are made imaginatively, and to be ‘art’
in their own way.

CONTEXTAs narratives show a story and a plot – this video isn’t specifically a narrative but I think that as the viewer is watching the song unravel (through the introduction of new ‘instruments’) you find that there is a story of them trying to make the video. Following where they’re going and waiting for more surprises it holds loose features of the style of video.
Performance based in the way it is being recorded live, the video is also conceptual as it is unusual.
The car has a brand logo which is subtly shown, and therefor is product placement but this may be to promote both the band and the car. This also may be what paid for the video. The use of product placement means the video and its magnitude can be made.
Along with the video there is a ‘making of’ this works well and introduces the audience into the world of video making.
