• Muscular dystrophy (MD) is a group of muscle diseases that weaken the musculoskeletal system and hamper locomotion. Muscular dystrophies are characterized by progressive skeletal muscle weakness, defects in muscle proteins, and the death of muscle cells and tissue.
Symptoms:Progressive muscular wastingPoor balanceDrooping eyelidsAtrophyScoliosis Inability to walkFrequent falls
Waddling gaitCalf deformationLimited range of movementRespiratory difficultyJoint contracturesCardiomyopathyArrhythmiasMuscle spasms

Muscular Dystrophy
Person 1 name
Sex linked disease: located on the X sex chromosome
More common in males, all races1 in every 3,500 to 5,000 boys
![Page 8: Genetic Disorder Project](https://reader036.fdocuments.us/reader036/viewer/2022081503/5681672c550346895ddbca26/html5/thumbnails/8.jpg)
Cause: genetically inherited disease – Body can’t make the protein dystrophin
Effects: muscles weaken and eventually stop working
– Poor balance – Drooping eyelids – Inability to walk – Muscle spasms– death
Person 2 name

Treatment:• No known cure• Physical therapy, exercise, anabolic steroid
treatments, or pacemakers can help
Person 3 name
Interesting Facts:• 9 types of MD• Pacemaker can be used
when heart muscles start not working
