ll Saints of North America Orthodox Church is the first English language Orthodox parish in the Hamilton area, with parish members from around the Golden Horseshoe (Toronto to Niagara). The mission was started in 2000 with a couple of individuals gathering for prayer and study, and has grown into a small but thriving Orthodox community. Each week, our parish offers special opportunities for Orthodox Christian education for young people and adults. Our monthly Orthodox Coffee Talks and Question Hour, annual Institute on the Family, and our Regions of Holiness speakers series provide these opportunities for every person in the Church. The Orthodox Spirituality Series is part of this ministry: sharing the fullness of Truth with others who seek it, and aiding in the salvation of each human soul. fter a decade since his last visit, we are delighted to welcome back Hieromonk Damascene of St Herman’s Monastery in Platina, California. Father Damascene will join us to speak on what has surprisingly become one of the most controversial topics among Orthodox today: whether or not to accept the received teaching of the Church fathers over two millennia on the way we understand Genesis, Creation, and Early Man. Drawing from the book of the same name, this talk will help contrast modern and traditional Christian ideas, as well as to address the multitude of questions on these important topics which touch our life, faith, and world view on an everyday level. A talk not to be missed. The Fifteenth Annual Directions from Toronto & London -- Take the 403 from Toronto or London to the Lincoln Alexander Parkway. Hieromonk DamasceneAbbot, St Herman of Alaska BrotherhoodPlatina, California

Born in 1961, Hieromonk (Priest-monk) Damascene is an American convert to Orthodox Christianity who was brought to the Orthodox Faith by another such convert, Father Seraphim Rose.

While a student at University of California at Santa Cruz, Father Damascene received his initial spiritual formation from Father Seraphim. In 1983, Father Damascene joined the St. Herman of Alaska Brotherhood, which had been founded in 1963 with the blessing of St. John Maximovitch. Father Damascene has lived at both the St. Herman of Alaska Monastery in Platina, California, and St. Michael's Skete on Spruce Island, Alaska. In 1995, Father Damascene was ordained a priest by His Eminence Metropolitan John of the Russian Orthodox Church (Moscow Patriarchate). In the year 2000 Father Damascene was instrumental in bringing the St. Herman of Brotherhood into the Serbian Orthodox Church under His Grace Bishop Jovan. He was at that time appointed Deputy Abbot of the Saint Herman Monastery. He was thereafter appointed Abbot of the brotherhood. Since 1985, Father Damascene has been the editor of the The Orthodox Word journalas well as editing over thirty books, including the epic, thousand-page biography of Father Seraphim Rose, Christ the Eternal Tao, and Father Seraphim Rose’s work, Genesis, Creation, and Early Man. Much of Father Damascene’s time has been devoted to giving talks in the United States, Australia, Canada, China, Russia and the Netherlands. In universities, churches, bookstores, and community centres, he has strived to pass on the spiritual inheritance of the Church Fathers, which is so near and dear to his heart.
