St. Anthony’s celebration of Girl Scout Sunday on March 10. More than 30 Girl Scouts gathered to celebrate 2019 Girl Scout Sunday at the 9:30 am Family Mass last Sunday. Deacon Mike Monahan spoke to the group and blessed them. During the Mass, he presented “My Promise, My Faith” pins to three scouts who had earned them during the year. (The pin is described by Girl Scouts USA: "Girls of all grade levels can earn

the My Promise, My Faith pin, which comple-ments existing religious recognitions and allows girls to further strengthen the connection between their faith and Girl Scouts. Once each year, a girl can earn the My Promise, My Faith pin by carefully examining the Girl Scout Law and tying it directly to tenets of her faith.") Following Mass, the Scouts enjoyed a Coffee Hour and Crafts in the Parish Center.

To make your pledge: Fill out a pledge form, which you will find on the facing page, or in the pews of the Church and Chapel (You can also use the pledge envelope you received in the mail from the Catholic Ministries Appeal). Place your completed pledge form and check [if you are including one] in an envelope. Drop it in the collection basket or bring it to the Parish Center. Make your check payable to Catholic Ministries Appeal. You can also mail your pledge to: Catholic Ministries Appeal, Diocese of RVC, PO Box 4000, Rockville Centre, NY 11571-9801. You do not have to include a payment when you make your pledge: The CMA office will send you reminders. 20% of all donations up to our goal of $74,800 and 80% of all donations above our goal will be returned to our parish as part of the rebate portion of the Appeal. We thank all our parishioners for their prayers and donations. For more information, or to pledge online, visit the Catholic Ministries Appeal website: https://www.drvc.org/CMA

“May the Holy Spirit lead us on a true journey of conversion, so that we can rediscover the gift of God’s word, be purified of the sin that blinds us, and serve Christ present in our brothers and sisters in need.” - Pope Francis

Making a pledge is easy. Just ask the 256 families who have already made their 2019 pledge!

We thank them for their generosity!

Almsgiving in Lent During the Lenten Season we are asked to pray, fast and give alms.

Lent is a perfect time for us to pray for those in need - whether it is for their material, emotional or spiritual needs. And when you practice fasting and abstinence during these forty days, please remember those of our neighbors who are hungry and consider sharing your gifts with them.

One good way to do this is by making a gift to the Catholic Ministries Appeal, which supports programs that help feed people in our community each year through both Catholic Charities and our Parish Outreach Centers.

100% of every dollar raised by the Catholic Ministries Appeal is restricted to the funding of Diocesan ministries and to aiding the parishes of the Diocese.

Goal—$74,800

Each and every gift, regardless of size, contributes to making a big difference! Please Participate - No Gift Is Too Small!

PARISH LIFE

St. Anthony’s congratulates our parishioner, Peggy Polacco, who will be honored for her great service by Long Beach Catholic Regional School. Mrs. Pollaco will be presented with the Mother Seton Award at the school’s Crystal Ball Dinner Dance at the Sands Atlantic Beach on Saturday, March 30.

Peggy has been a teacher at Long Beach Catholic Regional School for 27 years. During her years as a full-time teacher she taught 2nd, 4th, and 5th grades as well as middle school science. She was also a faculty representative for the diocesan teacher forum, the Junior National Honor Society committee, and the middle school PRIDE committee. Now that she is semi-retired, Peggy loves being able to spend time with her grandchildren every day. But, as a teacher through and through, she has returned part-time to LBCRS to serve as the middle school health teacher. A lifelong member of St. Anthony’s, Peggy has been active in many of our ministries over the years, from the Religious Ed program teaching pre-school students then Communion classes and Confirmation classes. Peggy and husband Frank were also involved with the Pre-Cana classes from many years at St. Anthony’s. She was involved in various community and school activities while raising her three children. We are delighted to join her many friends, students and associates at LBCRS in honoring one of St. Anthony’s own! Tickets, Sponsorship Opportunities and Journal advertising for the Crystal Ball are available. Please contact 917-514-9587 or [email protected] for more information.

TABOR HOUSE AFTERNOON AT THE MOVIES

GOOD WILL HUNTING

Sunday, March 31, 2019 / 1:30 PM - 4:00 PM Good Will Hunting is one of those movies you don’t want to miss!

It is the poetic story of a young man’s struggle to find out who he is. Matt Damon plays the troubled genius who is forced to endure therapy instead of jail with the help of the psychiatrist played by Robin Williams.

Both Matt and Robin give Oscar-winning performances. The movie has universal appeal and asks each of us what has stopped us from using our full potential as we continue our life’s journey. The film’s genius has lasting impact. Be sure to see it! Facilitator: Marilyn Clarke Donation: $1.00 to register on-line (Free will offering on March 31st

“BUT WHO DO YOU SAY THAT I AM?”

MARK 8.29 An Invitation:

A Four Week Lenten Retreat in Daily Life in the Spirit of Ignatius of Loyola

Pope Francis reminds us in Rejoice and Be Glad: On the Call to Holiness in Today’s World that Christ calls each of us to a personal relationship with him so that we may do our part in proclaiming and living the Kingdom now in our relationships with self, family, friends, neighbors, co-workers.

The call to holiness is, as St. Ignatius expressed it, to a heartfelt knowing of God become human for us in Jesus so as to love him more intensely and follow him more closely.

The season of Lent has been given to us so that we may grow in knowing and loving Christ.

The theme for this retreat is taken from the gospel of Mark. Contemplative prayer with scripture is a sure way to a personal relationship with Christ who desires to speak to our hearts.

Each session of this retreat will center on a period of contemplative prayer with a gospel passage followed by sharing, always optional. There will be an opening prayer, music and a brief introductory reflection to each passage.

Since this is a retreat in daily life you will be given passages to pray with and reflect on during the days between sessions so as to enhance your experience of growing intimacy with Jesus in answer to his question, “But who do you say that I am?”

The retreat will be led by the Manresa Companions, formerly of Mt. Manresa Retreat House on Staten Island. The presenters are: Bob Giugliano, PhD clinical psychologist and spiritual director and Rick D’Aversa a long standing member of the recovery community who has given days of recollection and talks on Ignatian spirituality and the spirituality of the 12 steps.
