GENERAL SECRETARY REPORT
01ST APR 2016 TO 31ST MAR 2017
Dear readers it gives me immense pleasure in presenting to you the annual
financial report of the year 2016-2017, especially because it basically serves two
important purposes. Firstly, it gives us opportunity to present to you the projects
that we have successfully organized and completed in the span of this current year,
total of 12 projects, and secondly the more important one, we get a chance to
interact with you on one-to-one basis. Apart from these achievements I would like
to mention other such projects taken-up by us in this current year are Mediclaim
for blinds and publication of book in Braille writing. Well, I must confess it is our
combined effort that has brought glory to our organization and help us achieve all
these positives for blinds. I feel proud to acknowledge heartily that your efforts
were no less than mine and it is the success of our organization as a unit. The
events organized in the year were as follows.
• Scholarship distribution ceremony and marriage ceremony -
Every year our organization extends a helping hand to all those needy blinds
who wish to achieve big in the field of education through the means of
scholarships. We make a point to help out students of std. 8th to graduates and we
have been doing it without a break for the past 10 years even without any grant
from government.
It gives me immense pleasure to inform you that on 19th June 2016 on the
auspicious occasion of “Vat Pournima” our organization helped tie nuptial bond of
two blind couples, namely Ms. Archana Dhakarke with Mr. Yogesh More and Ms.
Usha Navale with Gajanan Jadhav, Shri Hiraman at LIONS Club Hall, Pandit
Colony. Dignitaries present were Shri Keshav Verkhedkar Chief Engineer CIDCO,
Shri Ravindra Sapkal Director Sapkal Knowledge Hub, Shri Hiraman Aher Dy.
Chairman Mahindra & Mahindra and members of Maratha Mudra Mandal.
At this ceremony 109 blind students were presented with scholarship
cheque. Shri Keshav Verkhedkar was all praise for good work of organization and
wished us all the best for coming years and promised to contribute for our cause.
Shri Ravindra Sapkal promised to provide all help and campus-facility for the next
year’s marriage ceremony. Shri Hiraman Aher too extended helping hand and
promised continued support for coming years. Visitors and students were provided
with delicious food by a successful entrepreneur Shri N.S. Patil. A similar program
was organized at Thane on 2nd July 2016 at Nanjibhai Thhakar College and
meritorious 40 blind students were provided with scholarship in order to encourage
them. Rotary Club of Thane (West) was gracious enough to extend helping hand.
Special efforts were taken for successful management of this event by
Chairman Mr. Arun Bharaskar, Honorary Chairman Dr. Vijay Ghatge, Mrs. Vijaya
Dave and Mrs. Pratibha Holkar.
• Educational support to poor and needy blinds –
Poor and needy blinds who are deprived of basic necessities were helped out
with educational materials by the organization for the first time on Wednesday 6th
July 2016 to bring them into mainstream and fulfill their dreams of getting quality
education. 42 such needy blinds were donated with books, water bottles and school
bags at the hands of dignitaries present. Major, Professor Kangne and Mr. Anup
Shah from Sula wines were present for the function. Major was all praise for works
of the organization.
He narrated his experiences of the Defense life and encouraged blinds to
strive for the best with hard work and never to give-up in life. Professor Kangne
promised for all the possible help in the future as well. Special efforts were taken
by general secretary Mr. Datta Patil , Dy. Secretary Ms. Megha Pipale and Mrs.
Jayashree Apashankar of the organization to make the event successful.
• Devotional Musical Concert on the occasion of Ashadhi Ekadashi –
On the auspicious day of Ashadhi Ekadashi on 15th July 2016 a devotional
musical concert was organized at 6 p.m. at Mahakavi Kalidas Natyamandir,
Nashik. Theme of the concert was “Pandhariche Sukh Nahi Tribhuvani.” Main aim
of this musical concert was to bring forward burning desire of blinds to show the
world that they too are as talented as any able and also to provide platform to blind
singers to showcase their talent. It was a joint venture of blinds and sighted and
together they enthralled the audience with devotional songs. Mr. Sakharam Bankar
and Mr. Aviraj Tayade presented the melodious devotional songs. Mr. Aviraj
Tayade started off with Ramkrishna Hari Gajar then went on to present the
devotional songs like “Indrayinichya kati devachi Alandi,” “Asakasa devacha dev
bai thakada,” and “Vittala awade prembhav”. Mr. Sakharam Bankar presented
theme song “Pandhariche Sukh Nahi Tribhuvani,” and devotional Abhangs of Sant
Chokhamela. They kept the audience enthralled by singing devotional songs of
various saints, which was equally applauded by audience. Singers were ably
supported by Violinist Bhagwan Pawar and Tabalchi Sushil Kedare. Financial aid
was provided by Shri G.K. Jadhav owner Vikrant Happy Homes as well as
entrepreneur Mr. Shamrao Kedar.
Special efforts were taken by Mr. Arun Bharaskar, Dy. Chairman Mr.
Vishwashrao Gaikwad, Ms. Vijaya Dave and Mr. Bhagwan Pawar of the
organization to make the event successful.
• Felicitation Program of meritorious blind students –
Organization has, for the past 10 years, been doing its part to encourage
meritorious blind students to achieve big in the life inspite of their shortcomings.
This year too on 22nd August 2016 we organized a felicitation program at
Shrikrishna Lawns Pune Road for meritorious blind students who passed out
successfully in 10th, 12th and graduation. They were honored with cash prize and a
grammar book in Braille. Dignitaries present were Zonal Manager Bank of
Maharashtra Mr. Pratap Mohanty, DENA bank Divisional Manager Mr. Gupta,
Mr. Mohan Lodha. Mr. Gupta pledged support for the organization in the future
also. Mr. Lodha encouraged blind students for their hard work and achievements.
• Grand Celebration of Ganesh Festival and felicitation of Teachers –
On 11th September 2016 on the occasion of Ganesh festival singing
competition of blinds and ables was organized just to show that physical handicap
is no bar to talents in blinds. 32 blinds and sighted participated in the competition
and Mr. Pardeshi stood first in it. Two blind teachers Mr. Bhagirath Vinchu and
other were honored at this function for taking special efforts to spread the
knowledge with grit and sincerity.
Elocution competition and GK competition was organized to encourage more
and more blinds to come forward and join the organization. A day prior to pious
day of Anant Chaturdashi a Satyanarayan Puja was performed at the hands of Mrs.
Aarti Metkar divisional officer Central Bank. Special efforts were taken by Mr.
Bhagwan Pawar, Dr. Vishwasrao Gaikwad and Umesh Dabhade for success of the
event.
• International White-Stick Day celebration –
Every year October 15th is celebrated as international White-Stick day
throughout the world as declared by United Nations Organization. Various social
organizations mark the event for spreading awareness about plights of blinds and
making the world more favorable for them. Blind Welfare Organization also
celebrates this Day by taking up many social causes for blinds. This year also it
was celebrated with the same enthusiasm. Banners were prepared and a procession
was taken out from Red-Cross Signal to C.B.S. via Shivaji Road Shalimar, which
later on got converted into huge gathering. It was attended by various guests like
Chairman Mr. H.S. Banerjee, Nashik Run Secretary Mr. Anil Daithankar, Dy.
President Mahindra Muskaan Mr. Reddy and H.R. Manager Mr. S.G. Bhonge. At
this function 120 blinds were presented with White-Stick and 30 needy blinds were
covered with free mediclaim policies. Mr. Reddy lauded efforts of Blind Welfare
Organization and hoped that many more blinds are covered under mediclaim
policy so that they can meet medical expenses on their own. He also pledged
support to the organization. Mr. Banerjee too was pleased with our concern for
welfare of poor blinds and assured us his support. Mr. Anil Daithankar and Mr.
Bhonge presented CDs containing study material to std. 10th and 12th students. To
make the function successful special efforts were taken by Mr. Arun Bharaskar,
Ms. Kalpna Pande, and Ms. Vijaya Marathe.
• Distribution of sweets and cloths on the occasion of Dewali -
This organization has kept its previous record of social service of
distributing sweets and cloths to the needy blind families on the eve of Dewali so
that they don’t feel left out and can celebrate this festival with the same joy. This
social activity was carried out at organization’s office on 28th October 2016 on the
auspicious day of “Dhanotraya Dashi”. Sweets and cloths were distributed to 100
blinds and 10 blind couples were provided with a month’s ration by Mr. C.C. Shah.
Also women were provided with a sari and 1 kg sweet and men with 1 kg sweet.
Many famous personalities and businessman such as Mr. Hiraman Aher from
Mahindra and Mahindra, Mr. Gangadhar Jadhav, Mr. Sachin Shah and Mr. Mohan
Lodha were present to grace the occasion. Ms. Ashwini Kahandal sung a beautiful
Dewali song – “Aali mazya ghari hi diwali” which enlightened the heart of all
those present. Mr. Gangadhar Jadhav lauded our efforts and promised a tour to
Pandharpur. Organization chairman Mr. Arun Bharaskar, Ms. Kalpna Pande and
Ms. Vijaya Marathe actively participated to make the function successful.
• Interstate Cricket Tournament at Jalgaon District –
In continuation of our organization’s healthy trend of organizing various
sports meets to provide platform to blinds to showcase their sporting abilities, this
year Interstate Cricket tournament was held at Jalgaon on 9th & 10th December
2016 with the gracious support of Jain Business House. Total 8 teams from
Maharashtra – Khandesh, Nashik, Pune, Kolhapur, Mumbai, Nagpur, Marathwada
and Amarati – participated in this tournament. Tournament was played on
knockout basis. Final was played between Pune and Nagpur. Pune won the toss
and decided to field first. Nagpur scored 201 runs for the loss of 4 wickets and Anil
Belchar and Rothod scored half-centuries. Pune team could not get the required run
and were restricted at 180 for 7 wickets. Team Nagpur was the winner of the
tournament.
Mr. Dalubhai Jain chairman Mahavir Bank and Mr. Waghchaure Divisional
Manager Bank of Maharashtra were present for the inauguration ceremony of the
tournament. Mr. Nishikant Waghchaure was very pleased with the activities of the
organization and expressed his desire to help out one blind student with his
educational needs and so did Mr. Dalubhai Jain. Late Shri Lalji Jain was paid
homage at the beginning of the function. Cash prize of Rs. 10,000/- and winner’s
trophy was given to Nagpure team by Mayor Jalgaon. Team Pune was also
honored with a trophy and cash prize of Rs. 7000/- . Special efforts for the success
of the tournament were taken by Organization Chairman, Ms. Vijaya Dave, Mr.
Bhagwan Pawar and Mr. Datta Patil.
• Trip to Holi city Pandharpur –
Today’s busy and hectic life plays a havoc in everybody’s life. We tend to
get slowed down with boredom and work schedule. This is true equally for all the
people be it blind or sighted. Well-wishers of our organization have understood
this and for the past 7 years been organizing pleasure trips to do away with
monotony of work and to seek pleasure along family and friend. This year also a
trip was organized by the Mr. Gangadhar Jadhav to holy city Pandharpur from 21th
to 26th December 2016. Trip began on 21th Dec from Kailash Mat to Tuljapur and
visited the places such as Pandharpur, Jejuri, Murud Janjira Fort and Alibagh sea
beach where all enjoyed the sea bath. Financial assistance was provided by Mr.
Gangadhar Jadhav, which helped the organization to enjoy the trip to fullest
without bothering about money matters. Special efforts for the success of the trip
were taken by Mrs. Vijaya Dave and Mr. Datta Patil.
• National level Cricket Tournament at Mumbai –
Cricket is a religion in our nation. Popularity of cricket match between India
and Pakistan reaches to such height that people often skip office and business to
watch these matches. Same craze of cricket lies with blinds also who loves sports.
To inspire budding cricketers our organization has been hosting National level
cricket tournament for the past 8th years. This year’s National level Cricket
Tournament was held at Mumbai from 11th to 13th January 2017. Tournament was
held at Wilson Gymkhana Mumbai and Karnataka Sporting Ground with the help
of Rotary Club Bombay, Queen City and Kotak Mahindra.
Teams participating were Maharashtra, Gujarat, Madhya Pradesh, Rajasthan,
Punjab, West Bengal, Haryana and Jammu-Kashmir. Teams were divided into 2
groups and tournament was played on league basis. Inauguration was done by Ex-
India Cricket captain Mr. Ajit Wadekar and guest present were Mr. Narendra
Rahane Siddhivinayak Trustee and Mr. Dipak Gupta MD Kotak Mahindra.
Tournament began with band salutation to honorable guests and then guests
exchanged pleasantries with players. Mr. Ajit Wadekar inaugurated the tournament
and wished all the best to players. Mr. Gupta was in awe of blinds playing cricket
and was happy with the enthusiasm of blinds for the game. Inaugural matches were
played between Maharashtra and Madhya Pradesh and Gujarat and West Bengal.
Tournament was played for 3 days and on the basis of net run rate Gujarat and
Maharashtra qualified for the finals.
Gujarat batted first and with the help of fine century by Naresh Tumbad
amassed 262 for 2. In reply Maharashtra team could not put up a fight and were all
out for 109. It was a consecutive 7th win for Gujarat team. On 13th January 2017
prize distribution ceremony was held. Dignitaries present were Ex-CM
Maharashtra Mr. Manohar Joshi, Actor Ankush Chaudhary and actors of famous
Marathi TV show “Chala Hava Yeudya”. Winners were presented with cash prize
of Rs. 21,000/- and a trophy and runners-up team with Rs. 15,000/- and a trophy.
Rotary Club teams were cheering for their teams and Chairman Rotary Club Mr.
Ajun Mudda took special efforts to make the tournament successful. DD TV also
telecasted final match.
On 12th January 2017 complimentary food was provided by Gymkhana
Chairman Mr. Jakaullah Siddiqui and orchestra Zankaar was organized for
entertainment. Noted presence was of Mr. Shahid Rafi son of legendary singer
Mohammad Rafi. Special efforts were taken by Kotak Mahindra, Rotary Club,
Queen City, Mr. Hanif Shaikh, Mr. Bhagwan Pawar and organization chairman
Mr. Arun Bharaskar and Mrs. Vijya Dave to make the tournament a grand success.
• Haldi-Kumkum for Ladies –
Our organization understands that like any other able woman blind woman
also has many social and family problems that she faces in day-to-day life. In order
to know those problems, to offer supporting hand to such woman and to give the
solution to it Mrs. Vijaya Dabe from our organization has come forward with
innovative idea of arranging Haldi-Kumkum for ladies. The function was graced
by Mrs. Asha Kulkarni Manager Bank of Maharashtra and Mrs. Shah. In this
gathering women were asked to come out with their problems and later on
appropriate solutions were given to them. Also 40 blind women were provided
with helping hand to them by Mrs. Lata Lodha.
Mrs. Jayashri Apashankar and Mrs. Medha Pimple of Blind Welfare
Association took on the responsibility of making Haldi-Kumkum function
successful.
• International Women Day celebration –
In keeping with the tradition of celebration of International Women Day,
this year also it was celebrated with lot of enthusiasm on 19th March 2017 in the
premises of Blind Welfare Association.
To encourage and bring out hidden personalities in the women singing
competition was held. But as it collided with the exam period only 35 women
participated in the competition. Winners was Mrs. Asha Kahandal and first runners
up was Mrs. Manisha More. Apart from this two blind members of the
organization Mrs. Maya Kapar and Mr. Sunil Nighojkar were provided with shop
sheds for setting up business and other women were appropriately provided with
help.
Mr. Bhagwan Pawar, Mrs. Pratibha Holkar and Mrs. Darshana Murtadak of
Blind Welfare Association took on the responsibility of making this function
successful.
I am glad to conclude that in this financial year 2016-17 our organization has
successfully achieved its goal of social welfare and we took up 12 such social
causes that brought smile on the faces of blinds and also could provide help to the
needy persons. I must admit that this is the success of our organization as a whole
and I would like to mention here that without your cooperation and able guidance
it would not have been possible to make these events successful. Also, I would like
to mention special support of Mr. Narendra Firodiya, Mr. Gangadhar Jadhav, Mr.
Hiraman Aher of Mahindra & Mahindra, Mr. Keshav Varkhedkar CIDCO Chief
Engineer and Mr. Ulhas Debadkar and all our well wishers. I would also like to
thank broadcasting media for coverage of our functions and highlight our hard
work to the society. I proudly say that this year we could make arrangements for
settlement of 2 blinds. I expect same cooperation and helping hand in the future
also and express my gratitude on behalf of B.W.O.I.

BLIND WELFARE ORGANIZATION TRACK REPORT OF LAST THREE YEARS 2014-2016
Our is one of the prominent registered Social Organization, working for the social awareness and All
Round development of the blind. In this connection we are implementing the following programs and
schemes.
1. Scholarship Scheme: We are offering scholarship to those blind students who are studying from
class 8 to post graduation. We are glad to inform you that, there were 122 blind students
beneficiaries from 2013. 130 students have been beneficiaries from 2014, 135 from 2015, and
129 students in the year 2016 this way total 486 blind students are beneficiaries under this
scheme for last 4 years.
This way the poor blind students are benefited from the scholarship, student
can remit examination fees; afford the bus passes and books or educational stationary etc. with
the help of this fund received form society.
2. Self Employment: We do provide good assistance in self-employment to the needy blind people. We
would like to inform you that, in the last three years we supported 32 blind people for self employment.
6 blind candidates benefitted of this scheme in the year 2013, 9 candidates in 2014 and 10 candidates in
2015 and 7 candidates in 2016. Out of these total 32 candidates 23 candidates are running the
stationary, cutlery stores and 9 candidates are selling toys in the railways, thus all of them has
maintained themselves and their families.
3. Educational help to create new educational equipments and free distribution.
A. Education and Training: We are running musical academy named as ‘Brahmanand Musical
Academy ‘ at Nashik and imparting free musical training and education for the blind people,
with this help the blind people can get a job or get self employed either by running Orchestra or
music class. At present total 24 candidates are learning music and musical instrument in the
academy.
B. The Organization is also running a computer training center for the blind with the help of
talking software, with the help of this training the blind people can work efficiently in the
Government offices and service industry. Similarly they can have better educational facility,
study material and book reading facility with the help of talking software.
C. Publication of Brail Books: Lions club of Pune donated the Brail printer to BWO, with the help
of this printer we published books: Nishabda (English Grammar Book) with 3 Editions which
helped 1150 students to improve their English Skills specially in rural area. To develop the
health awareness among the blinds this year we are planning to publish ‘Arogya Sanjivani’
health related book which will help the blinds to take care of their health.
4. Sports Activities: We arrange various types of sports and games events for the blinds, in
which, tournament for the following games and sports are organized:
Athletics, Chess and Cricket etc. these tournaments are organized every year on State as well as
National Level, we are proud to inform you that in the year 2014, 7 of our blind players played
and won the cricket world cup of blind cricket held in South Africa. Among these 7 players of us
2 were from Maharashtra 3 from Gujarat and 1 each from Andhra Pradesh and Punjab. For last 3
years ONGC is helping us to conduct these tournaments successfully.
5. We are also conducting the eye checkup camps in the rural areas, so the poor people who
cannot afford visiting eye specialists doctors. This year we helped 5 poor people for their
cataract surgery and distributed spectacles for free to many needy people.
6. We Helped poor blind people by organizing their marriage and also supported them by
offering the required things for their new life like- kitchenware, and other necessary things. In
the year 2014 we helped 1 couple, 1 couple in 2015 and 3 couples in 2016 thus, we arranged
and supported total 6 couples in last three years. We hope the number will keep growing.

also we conduct personality development camps for blind people to help make their life better.

participated in this tournament.which is the best of outcum and beautiful sweetfruit of the
efforts taken by the organization with the help of you people.

Thanking yoBLIND WELFARE ORGANIZATION TRACK REPORT OF LAST THREE YEARS 2014-2016
Our is one of the prominent registered Social Organization, working for the social awareness and All
Round development of the blind. In this connection we are implementing the following programs and
schemes.
1. Scholarship Scheme: We are offering scholarship to those blind students who are studying from
class 8 to post graduation. We are glad to inform you that, there were 122 blind students
beneficiaries from 2013. 130 students have been beneficiaries from 2014, 135 from 2015, and
129 students in the year 2016 this way total 486 blind students are beneficiaries under this
scheme for last 4 years.
This way the poor blind students are benefited from the scholarship, student
can remit examination fees; afford the bus passes and books or educational stationary etc. with
the help of this fund received form society.
2. Self Employment: We do provide good assistance in self-employment to the needy blind people. We
would like to inform you that, in the last three years we supported 32 blind people for self employment.
6 blind candidates benefitted of this scheme in the year 2013, 9 candidates in 2014 and 10 candidates in
2015 and 7 candidates in 2016. Out of these total 32 candidates 23 candidates are running the
stationary, cutlery stores and 9 candidates are selling toys in the railways, thus all of them has
maintained themselves and their families.
3. Educational help to create new educational equipments and free distribution.
A. Education and Training: We are running musical academy named as ‘Brahmanand Musical
Academy ‘ at Nashik and imparting free musical training and education for the blind people,
with this help the blind people can get a job or get self employed either by running Orchestra or
music class. At present total 24 candidates are learning music and musical instrument in the
academy.
B. The Organization is also running a computer training center for the blind with the help of
talking software, with the help of this training the blind people can work efficiently in the
Government offices and service industry. Similarly they can have better educational facility,
study material and book reading facility with the help of talking software.
C. Publication of Brail Books: Lions club of Pune donated the Brail printer to BWO, with the help
of this printer we published books: Nishabda (English Grammar Book) with 3 Editions which
helped 1150 students to improve their English Skills specially in rural area. To develop the
health awareness among the blinds this year we are planning to publish ‘Arogya Sanjivani’
health related book which will help the blinds to take care of their health.
4. Sports Activities: We arrange various types of sports and games events for the blinds, in
which, tournament for the following games and sports are organized:
Athletics, Chess and Cricket etc. these tournaments are organized every year on State as well as
National Level, we are proud to inform you that in the year 2014, 7 of our blind players played
and won the cricket world cup of blind cricket held in South Africa. Among these 7 players of us
2 were from Maharashtra 3 from Gujarat and 1 each from Andhra Pradesh and Punjab. For last 3
years ONGC is helping us to conduct these tournaments successfully.
5. We are also conducting the eye checkup camps in the rural areas, so the poor people who
cannot afford visiting eye specialists doctors. This year we helped 5 poor people for their
cataract surgery and distributed spectacles for free to many needy people.
6. We Helped poor blind people by organizing their marriage and also supported them by
offering the required things for their new life like- kitchenware, and other necessary things. In
the year 2014 we helped 1 couple, 1 couple in 2015 and 3 couples in 2016 thus, we arranged
and supported total 6 couples in last three years. We hope the number will keep growing.
7. Simultaneously, We run awareness programs about blindness in rural areas for all people and
also we conduct personality developmenu,
