From the Couch to the Bus Depot to the Mall to Work: Understanding the Post-Psychotic Adjustment Process Psychosis is a frightening, and often traumatic experience that creates disrupted cognitive function and leaves an uncertain aftermath. The absence of an identified psychological recovery trajectory with measurable milestones has created frustration for the person, family, and providers. The Milestones of Adjustment Post-Psychosis Recovery Model (MAPP)™ describes a dynamic four-phase progression from cognitive dissonance to insight followed by achievement of cognitive constancy that culminates in a return to ordinariness. The purpose of this keynote address is to present key recovery milestones that will assist in designing nursing interventions that facilitate post-psychotic adjustment for both the patient and the family.
