1959 SEATO Graduate School of Engineering is established
1967The Constituent Assembly of Thailand approve legislation for the Charter of the newly named Asian Institute of Technology in October.
1973His Majesty King Bhumibol Adulyadej of Thailand graciously presides over the opening of the new campus in Pathumthani in February.
1986Asian Disaster Prepared-ness Center establish at AIT
1988AIT was the site of the first email sent in Thailand. It developed the country’s first top level domain name “@ait.ac.th

1993AIT and the Government of Vietnam signs an M.O.U. in February to establish the AIT Centre Vietnam in Hanoi.
2001 The AIT Extension is established serving as an umbrella of AIT’s outreach and Satellite campus.
2003His Majesty King Carl XVI Gustaf of Sweden opens Thailand Accident Research Center.
2009 AIT celebrates its Golden Jubilee
2013The AIT Distinguished Lecture Series kicked of with a inaugural talk on “Living with Robots” delivered by Stanford University pioneer Prof. Oussama Khatib.

SELECTED INTERNATIONAL RECOGNITION
1987United States Aid for International Development and the National Research Council of the United States, in recognition of significant contributions to science and technology over the past 25 years
1989Ramon Magsaysay Award for International Understanding.
1995AIT received the Asian Management Award for Development Management from the Asian Institute of Management in Manila, for its contributions to human resources development and sustainable development in the region.
2006H.E. Prof. Banh Tien Long, Vice Minister, Ministry of Education and Training, Vietnam, presented his country’s prestigious “Friendship Order” to AIT.
2011AIT received “Excellent Research Awards for Year 2010” from the Thailand Research Fund (TRF).
2013Prof. Kanchana Kanchanasut, Vice President for Research, was inducted into the global “Internet Hall of Fame”.
