Equal Pay Day – 7th November 2013

The Fawcett Society marks Equal Pay Day – the point in the year when women in effect ‘stop earning’ because of the 15 per cent gender pay gap.

Benefit cuts have been found to hit women twice as hard as men

Women working in the public sector experience a smaller gap than those working in the private sector.

With a million public sector jobs set to go in the next few years, the average gap in pay could widen as women take up lower paid work in the private sector

Flexible Working Regulations (2003)

Gives employees the legal right to ask for a flexible working pattern, including working from home, reduced hours or different hours, for workers with children aged under six years.

The right to request flexible working was extended to about 4.5 million parents of children aged up to 16 in 2009
