• If the שומר אבידה returns the object to a place where the owner will see it, he is no longer responsible for it

• If it gets stolen or lost, he is responsible for it

•The finder is always חייב for the object until he returns it to the owner’s possession

This is a question on

רבה

אמר ליה:I agree with you in the case of animals. Since they have a habit of wandering, they require extra watching

The finder is always חייב for the object until he returns it to the owner’s possession

איתביה

What does “always” mean?Doesn’t it mean even if it is lost or stolen from his own house? We see from here that he is like a !שומר שכר

still considers רבהhim a שומר חינם, but he now considers losing an animal to be negligence

The word ֵב ִׁש requires one to return an object to the ָהowner properly (to his house). How do I know that one may also fulfill his obligation of returning by leaving it in his garden or deserted building?ם יֵב ִׁש .teaches even that fulfills his obligation ְּת

איתביה

What does the Braisa mean by “his garden or deserted building”?

His garden or deserted building that is extra secure

That is the same as his house, and the Torah has already

taught that

This is a proof toרבה

This is a question on רב יוסף

:אמר ליהReally, the Braisa is talking about an extra secure garden or deserted building.

The word ם יֵב ִׁש teaches us something ְּתelse: that he can return it without telling the owner

אילימא

It means he is allowed to return it to a garden or building that is secure in normal circumstances. We see that he does not have to guard it above and beyond a low level. He must be like a שומר חינם

שמַע מינה

taught that רבי אלעזרevery one must inform an

owner when he returns an object, except for a

שומר אבידה
